the visuals, the gameplay, the story, the difficulty, the weapons...just great

Played through God of War until story finished on PS4 slim. I played the 3 previous main games on their original systems (God of War - PS2, God of War II - PS2, God of War III - PS3), but none of the side games. Kratos returns in a game that is actually more "mature" than the previous games, and the core of the game is that struggle, the dramatic irony that the audience and Kratos himself are the only ones who know who he truly is, or was, or maybe still is, and how his somewhat estranged son will effect him? That and an absolutely stunning game with equally beautiful and violent depiction of Norse mythology and locations, and that has effected the combat as well. Kratos has lost his jump but gained a magic axe, but otherwise feels like God of War added a little Dark Souls. Blocking, parrying and dodging return and the combat is just as visceral, including brutal finishers. The view has shifted to behind Kratos, but this actually allows for a closer and more brutal experience. His son, Atreus, is never a nuisance in combat, and aides through damage, status effects and control, allowing focus on Kratos to rip and cleave the denizens of Midgard apart. An excellent modernization of a modern franchise, excellent in gameplay, smooth and detailed visuals, fantastic setting, and moving story.

I never really could get into the previous God of War games; they just weren’t my type of game. I got bored with the gameplay and tired of the “edginess” of them. However, this new game in the series changes EVERYTHING. Excellent gameplay, visuals, music, and a story of a father and son working through a rough relationship make this game a must-have. Definitely worth your time!

I had never played any of the God of War games. I also recently had purchased a Playstation 4. This game was worth the purchase! it was amazing! the story, the contact, the characters! everything! its worth the money and the time playing it! even after the story line, you still have so much to do! its a great game! I hope they make a follow up!

Great story and game play to match. While some have complained about the combat. albeit not too loudly, I felt its versatility a was nearly perfect fit for propelling the action forward. While not the easiest system to maser, it was fun learning, and a down right blast when you get the hang of it. Best in the series by far, and one of the best games I have played in a while.

This game ranks #1 in my favorite top 5 games ever. The story is incredible and it just keeps you constantly wondering what happens next. Along with the main story, there are a lot of hours in side quests and collectibles/gear to collect. The combat in the game makes to feel like a total badass as well. 10/10 recommend this!

I was skeptical about this game, mostly because I just thought it was lame. I went online to see the reviews and it’s hailed as the best PlayStation game out. I wish I wouldn’t have judged it too early. This game is awesome! I was hooked right from the start. The gameplay is awesome and brutal. I had a lot of fun playing this game.

I don't know if there is a better blend of action and story when it comes to video games. Its quite a bit different from the previous "God of War" games but that doesn't mean its bad in any way shape or form, I actually like this one better! A true masterpiece, and you'd be doing yourself a disservice not to purchase it.

This game was well organized, well designed, and well written. It takes you into the lore of Nore mythology while keeping you rooted to Kratos' past. Gameplay controls were different as expected but fun nonetheless. There were some sections in the game that seemed like an unnecessary filler in-between missions. Overall a great pickup and a fantastic addition to the franchise.

I was not expecting this game to be as amazing as it was, sure I had hi hopes but this is by far my game of the year 2018. This game is now in my top 5 games of all time! They gave This empty character actual life with subtle nuances that tell a greater story with his few words. On top of amazing graphics, outstanding gameplay mechanics they tac on a great story!

This game took me a while to get used to seeing as I went from buying a Playstation 3 in 2015 to a Playstation 5 in 2023. I wasn’t used to this style of game but I got used to it. It’s a good game. Beautiful graphics and runs well. I’m def just old tho. Haven’t finished it yet. But I’m please with this addition to the GOW series and look forward to playing the fifth installment of Ragnarok eventually

Gorgeous graphics, great story and good action make this game a must have.

One of the best games of the playstation, it has impressive graphics that feel like 3d animated movie, the story is really good I won't give spoilers, and the action is some moments the games gets pretty hard with some boss fights.. I can't wait for the sequel !!

This is the single best game you can buy on the PS4. The gameplay, the story, the world, and the visuals make for a masterpiece all PS4 owners should experience. I played it on the original PS4 and had almost 0 noticable performance dips, and when I did it was during huge action packed sequences with dozens of enemies and explosions. Absolutely worth your time and money

I got a PS4 Pro basically to play this game. It hasn’t disappointed. Probably the best graphics I’ve seen on a console. Great story and dialogue between characters. Combat system takes some getting used to but works well. It is unlike any of the previous games, less arcade like and more cinematic. Good upgrade system, making you want to explore and find hidden materials.

I have always enjoyed God of War but I believe they really stepped it up with this one. I'm a huge fan of the graphics and the story. The game can be a bit challenging at times but what kind of game would it be without that?

From the moment i picked this game up, i couldn't set it down. The story, the atmosphere, the dialogue, they are all amazing and really grip you from the start. I haven't played a game that i was unable to stop playing, until i basically 100% it, since Mass Effect 2. This game is definitely one of my favorites of all time and i would highly recommend this game to anyone.

I knew of the God of War games but never played them much since I was lacking any of Sony's consoles. So when I saw this I was excited to finally get to try it (even though it seems MUCH different then the old ones). The story and characters are on par with Uncharted and the combat is just below the thrill of Dark Souls. I honestly don't know who would not like this game.
