As a Dark Souls fan who never played any of the prior God of War games, I was intrigued to read that this latest game changed the combat system to become more Dark Souls-like. Although I can't agree with that comparison (this still feels more like wild button-mashing than disciplined tactics), God of War is a lot of fun. It is gorgeous to look at, with TONS of things to do, and a compelling story line. The crafting and skill trees remind me more of Middle Earth: Shadow of War. There is no stamina bar like in Dark Souls, so you can hack n slash without restraint.

If you own a PS4, you owe it to yourself to buy, beg, or borrow a copy of God of War. I don't care if someone spoiled it for you, play it anyway. Don't be ashamed to play on Easy, just play. Combat is amazing (although feels slow when you're starting the game - that'll pass), and the story is one of the best I've seen in a game. The ONLY thing I can find to complain about is that the number of kill animations for each enemy feels limited (I believe there are only two for each enemy type). Why are you still reading? After his vengeance against the Olympic pantheon of gods, Kratos finds himself in the land told the Norse. As a long time god of war fan I was worried about the reboot, but not only was I wrong to be worried, it surpassed any expectation I had. The greatest game so far I’m this generation of consoles , it’s a shame it won’t get the credit it deserves for not having multiplayer. And to those who oppose Kratos beware, remember this guy offed his whole step family and his daddy, then went on and killed other gods from different lands. You next

I previously had God of War III in my top 15 of all time game and I loved the perspective, combos, basic mythology, and graphics. This game is better and modernized in every way. Playing on a vanilla OG PS4, this still looks amazing and has gradual difficulty progression. The updates and weapons are very forgiving so you can play how you want without being forced to spam combos. The shield boomerang-mechanic is satisfying every time. 30+ hour campaign was fun the whole time and will be played again. It is not for kids but highly recommended for adults.

Best game so far this year, having as much fun playing this as I did with HZD last year. Having only played through parts of the past God of War games I may be missing parts of the story but that did not have an affect on this game. I prefer first person games but have not had an issue with GoW third person. Game play and story are great, after finishing the main game there is still a lot to do if you skipped side missions and followed straight through the story. Would have been even better if they had some coop play but that is just a personal preference.

This God of War takes place a few years after God of War III. For those who haven't played any God of War games but picking up a PlayStation for the first time, you're definitely able to hop in and play without much knowledge of the first 3 games on PS2 and PS3. The gameplay is amazing with solid controlling and detail graphics. The story is capturing to any audience and should be in your gaming library if you're a fan of story, drama and a fun adventure with Kratos.

i usually heavily research a game before i buy, since i don't have the money to buy many games per year. this one was worth evert cent. admittedly unfamiliar with the god of war games before this, the story was captivating, the gameplay was satisfying and presented the perfect mix of challenge and fun, and i was compelled to explore its every nook and cranny. the father/son relationship felt masterfully done and i was genuinely drawn in by each and every supporting character. well worth it!

This game contains a great Ancient Greek Mythological story. The character is fun to play with, the controls are quite responsive. I specially like the 'minigames' when fighting the big enemies and the bosses, its fantastic pushing those buttons in sequence when prompted in the screen. As a reward you get to see the main character (Kratos) execute some vigilant killer moves. The puzzles are mind boggling but solvable. They put more fun in the game as compared to those other hack and slash games out there. I look forward to the God of War sequels.

This was such a great game. The gameplay, the story, the action. I loved everything about this game. Can't wait for the next one.

The God of War games have always been staples in the action/adventure genre, but this new addition goes far beyond its predecessors. Simply put, this is the best video game to be released on the PS4. Graphically, the scope is jaw dropping. Mechanically, the game perfectly blends Dark Souls style patient combat with the gruesome flashy action the series is know for. The heart of this game, however, lies with the story of a troubled father doing his best to raise and protect his son. This is a game that people will be talking about for years.

This is a fun romp in the God of War universe and a great direction for the game to go in to reboot the series. I loved the raw and hardcore action of the previous titles in the series but the new direction which is more comparable to other open world games such as Horizon: Zero Dawn, Uncharted (Narrative), and Shadow of The Tomb Raider. This game checks all the right boxes and the combat is still visceral and fun. A great game for anyone seeking God of War in their collection on PS4.

Positives: Almost everything about this game is top notch. The combat system, the music, the story, the graphics all add up to an amazing game. My favorite part is the combat in this game is which is absolutely amazing to play with and there are certain aspects to the combat that literally are so satisfying. The main story took me about 16 hours to complete and still have yet to do side missions and explore the map. Overall, best game I have played this year. Negatives: Makes the PS4 Pro fan sound like a jet engine sometimes lol

This game has leaps and bounds exceeded my expectations. When I purchased it, I was thinking it would be a good fun game. Well this game is that and so much more. There is a learning curve to the combat, but once you get good, it's extremely satisfying. The story and characters are absolutely top tier and somehow rival games on my PC rig (and I'm not even playing on a Pro). Santa Monica Studios should be commended for putting out a true masterpiece. This is one of the few games I will probably keep permanently due to it's replay value

OF course, my thought also was, awww man, a change to my all time favorite franchise, but so far, it has been great. Visuals, stunning, action, still brutal, 30 minutes in, 2 boss fights (1 not really but felt like it) and still feel like a bad mofo when I am in charge of Kratos. Of course, there is the child element which is very welcoming and seeing the struggle of Father and son.....this game is exciting so far! Can't wait to keep playing. No complaints at all other than camera angles from my nephew, but I have adapted to it quick.

This game is by far one of the best that I've ever played not only does it have wonderful gameplay but the story is immersive and extremely captivating on top of that it is absolutely beautiful I will be buying the new PlayStation when I possibly able to get my hands on it as well as the Xbox because I have been in Microsoft guy from the start but I will be getting the PlayStation for the follow up did this game because it was that amazing

My first experience with GoW was on the PSP, back in 2008. I was heading on vacation to South America and picked up the original game in the airport before leaving. It may have been the best video game purchase ever. Wonderful story and action for a handheld. I picked up this latest edition and am not disappointed. The colors and sounds are incredible. The story is immersive and you become Kratos and Atreus. I'm only three hours into the game and hoping that there are hundreds more. A wonderful experience. Highly recommended.

This game is really great so far. I've played all of the previous God of War games and so far I like this one the most. After playing all of the other games it does take a little bit of time to get used to the change in controls but once you get that it is a fun game with good dialogue and lots of puzzles on top of some good action. It also seems to have a good storyline with it as well. As noted in the review summary this game has a lot of violence and there is also vulgar language so it really is not appropriate for children.

My son bought me this game. Before getting it he told me I was gonna like. He was right. I'm 40 years old and I don't really play video game. I'm not a fun of games with out an story. This game in the other hand has an awesome story, excellent graphics and is a trip how the camara goes around the characters and the details are superior than any other game. Excellent game, one of the best video games I never played. 100% recommendable.

In typical god of war fashion this game is filled with adventure and thrills at every corner. The graphics are amazing and the story line is intriguing that makes you want it to not stop. My suggest, if you buy the game make sure to take your time and do every side mission in order to gain as much experience points as possible. Reason being is because the foes are strong and can give you a bit of challenge and if you are just cruising by you might get stuck on some enemies.
