Smart way to make your TV Smart
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Google is an innovator and they have proved it with this small little device called Chromecast. I got this on Thanksgiving with a sweet deal from Best Buy. Thoroughly enjoying the Chromecast since then. They also offer 2 months free subscription of Hulu. You can play anything from your laptop, mobile or tablet. Work seamlessly. I really like this awesome product. Simple and cheap way to convert your regular TV to a smart TV.

Cheap Way to Make Any TV a "Smart TV"
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pretty great product for it's price. It's easy to setup and includes extra cable attachments to make sure it will fit on almost any TV. The lack of a remote control (even as an extra) is a bummer, but the cell phone/tablet interface works well enough most of the time. Works with most services. Notable absences are Amazon Instant Video and iTunes. It's likely that these competitors won't be on the device anytime soon. If iTunes is important look at getting an Apple TV, if Amazon is what you want check out the Amazon Fire or a Roku streaming stick instead. Unlike other streaming devices, this device doesn't stream anything directly. Instead, it relies on apps (or a web browser) to "cast" content to the device. Thankfully at this point a rather large amount of apps support Chromecast and more support is added all the time. I do use the app for Netflix, but the bulk of my usage comes from smaller apps and content providers. I really appreciate how easy it is for even smaller developers to get their content on the big screen. Without iTunes and Amazon support it keeps this stick from being an all in one device for most folks. For everything else this works pretty well, it's cheap and new content is constantly being added. It's hard to go wrong.

Extremly nice if used with a tablet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to instal, convenient, and always on. Next to a blu ray player this is the next best thing for price wise if you do not feel like spending that much money or want something you can take with you to someone else's house.

Best added value product of 2014/15, esp. Android
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Max value for the $$ to add streaming capability to any TV. Can be controlled through laptop, tablet, smartphone, and can project almost any screen (esp. Chrome, Hulu, YouTube, Amazon, etc.). A breeze to setup and get going. You hook it up to your gmail account and you can control the streaming from any of your devices (esp. Android based). You can still browse, make calls, etc. while streaming is happening (unlike traditional screen projection). With lollipop (Android 5.0 and after) you can also do screencast right from the notifications bar/menu. We have two for our 2 TVs, and it's been very convenient, got the family together for shows and videos, instead of having individuals see it on their own screens. Certainly worth the investment.

It's awesome, sort of
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first received my Chromecast I was on my way to a friend's house so I used it there before I used it at my apartments. It was easy to hook up, had great picture quality, and was fun to use. The problem with it arose when I took it home. My apartment complex has a wifi network which I use to access the internet. Unfortunately Chromecast does not work with such a network. I called the helpline and they told me I was pretty much out of luck and there was nothing they could do. If you live in a dorm or are looking to use this while staying in a hotel it will not operate. I would love to keep the device but I would have to pay for internet access when it's already included in my rent. One other drawback, which I'm sure will probably change with future updates, is you cannot stream your own content such as pictures and videos you have taken on your phone or music that has not been downloaded through the Google Play store. It would also be nice to use as a projector to show PowerPoint presentations for example. All in all I would highly recommend the device if you are able to use it.

Love my Chromecast!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a hard time choosing between a Chromecast and a Roku so I ended up buying one of each to use on my main 2 TV's. For me, there's no choice now, the Chromecast is better. Thought I'd like the Roku remote, but my phone or tablet are easier to use than the very basic Roku remote. And you can continue to use the phone while casting to the TV. Also being able to cast to the TV from my laptop is great. It gives me so many more options than the Roku. Then today I found out that live YouTube videos won't play on my Roku but is no problem on my Chromecast. The picture quality is excellent. I highly recommend and may go buy a second one so I don't have to keep moving it between TV's when I find things that I can't do with my Roku.
