Save your money-very limited use-
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was hopeful for this device and expected to own 2-3 three of them. Wasted my money on just one. I own Apple Tv, Negear Push2TV, Roku and Bestbuy Rocket Fish Miracast. The Chromecast has potential, I guess, but is mostly I can't do that. If you are looking for a way to play your purchased Google movies, Neflix and You Tube, and THAT's ALL, from your closed WiFi network, this might be for you, and minus Google movies via Apple. At present, only Netflix and You Tube can be streamed via Apple devices. This might be for you. But if you have other needs, it's not ready. SO SAD. If you want to use it at a hotel or other secure open wifi, it won't work. THE WAY IT WORKS From what I can tell, the device seems to be a smaller version of a media streamer, e.g. Roku player. I think it works independently of of the tablet, phone or computer that you set up the wi-fi it works through. However, even if your phone is connected to a wi-fi connection, the Chromecast won't connect if it is not truly an open connection or it does not connect through a secure password. E.g. if you connect though a network that requires you do enter the password via a browser after provider connection, it wont connect. Although its claimed someone reverse engineered the device and could play media off the device, it seems the the Chromecast actually accesses the internet and not the controlling device. WIFI REQUIRED, NOT WI FI DIRECT-DOESNT WORK ON PUBLIC NETWORKS Despite its small size, this is not a Miracast device and it needs to access the internet independent of the alleged source device. It's unlikely to work on an open secure wi-fi system, and unlike Apple TV, which can still stream source media even if internet is down, Chromecast can not stream if the internet is not working. NO PROFESSIONAL APPLICATIONS I was hoping to project powerpoint and business applications, but it cant be done, not even through Chrome browser. The most you can do is stream Chrome internet media, provided both the device and the computer have internet access.

Can't beat the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the price, it is no brainer to buy this. I love this over my Apple TV and Amazon fire. It just connects to the TV USB. Don't have to worry about using the wall power outlet. Can stream from my cell and laptop.

Netflix combo an A+

Useful add-on to home network
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In the few weeks since we've added Chromecast to our home network, we've found some convenient uses for it, most notably the ability to watch YouTube videos on the large screen in our family room from any of our connect iPhones/iPads... It's simply enough that kids can use it... Set-up was a bit more complicated than expected, but anyone with intermediate technical skills will be fine.. I'm looking forward to see what other apps will become compatible with it as Chromecast technology moves forward

Cool little Gadget
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was finally able to track down 2 of these things. Watching youtube videos on my TVs was the main reason I wanted this. It does that great. The $24 discount you get on Netflix is pretty cool as well. I don't have a streaming plan with them but I do still get DVDs from them and that discount can be applied to that plan as well which is cool. Set up was pretty easy. You need an up to date computer though. I have an older laptop still running vista on it and I couldn't do the set up on that . Had to do it on my Tablet (Samsung Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1) Worked great. Got 2 of these, one for living room and bedroom. In the set up it lets you lable each chromecast that way when you want to stream something to the tv you can pick which tv you want to send it to. Overall pretty cool device. Cheap and easy way to watch Youtube on my tv instead of having to go through my PS3 or Bluray player. Needs some more apps for it. Like HBOGo. But that should happen in time. If you can find one I would get it.

Genius
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It has a few hiccups but it's new so it's to be expected. Nothing that can't be fixed with a minor firm ware update. One of the things that needs some improvement is mirroring the Chrome browser from a laptop. It lags out a bit but this feature is in Beta so I'm assuming that it will approve over time. Netflix, Youtube, and Google Music Play all work really well. The video clarity is flawless and reaction time between your command from your device to the tv is usually within two seconds. I actually have my dongle hooked into my Yamaha receiver so that my audio plays through my large surround sound speakers. This option works just as well as it being plugged into the TV it self and haven't had any issues with it. Overall I would definitely recommend this to everyone I know.

Awesome!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Own one, just bought another for another TV. Chromecast+Android phone/tablet+Showbox/XBMCcast+Localcast/BubbleUPNP=watch whatever I want, whenever I want to watch it. Seriously, with just a minimal amount of googlin' around and a tiny bit of effort, these little things are good for soooo much more than just Netflix/YouTube/Hulu+. I use mine to keep current on all my shows. I'm able to watch them on my time starting about an hour after they air. Streaming is pretty much flawless. LOVE IT.

Getting better over time
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have two chromecasts so far. They both effectively replaced Roku XD boxes which are getting long in the tooth. The only thing missing from chromecast is the ability to stream amazon prime video, but that's on amazon's end, not google. I thought at first controlling the chromecast with a phone or tablet would be tedious. It actually allows for richer browsing and viewing. In addition, the nexus 4 and 7 that I own can also cast their screen to the chromecast. That's a very handy feature.

Great for entertaining guest!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device is very easy to use with an Android phone. No need to dowload an extra app, the cast icon is built in to the apps already. Very cool that many different phones can cast to the chromecast, my family often takes turns sharing their recent video finds with the family at tv time. The pandora app makes it easy to entertain houseguest with music rather than purchasing a bluetooth speaker, also shares the name of the song with every one so that questions about songs are already answered!

awesome accessory for any home entertainment syste
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a must have device for your home entertainment system. Pair ALL of your devices with it and stream everything to your hearts content. BUT it isn't truly wireless, it performs best with external power.

Great buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Now I can watch Netflix on the bedroom TV. I have a PC and Roku hooked up to the main TV in the living room, so I don't really need a Chromecast there. Netflix streams without any lag or slow buffering on this gadget. One note, however, is that a strong Wifi signal is essential. This seems especially important when streaming a Hulu video on a Chrome browser on my desktop computer. There was too much lag and choppiness to be acceptable. When I moved it closer to the router, there seems to be no more problems. Great buy for around $10 (with the free 3 months of Netflix)! Even for the full $35 price, I think it's worth it. I see no advantages to getting another Roku given what the Chromecast lets me do.

Perfect gift for those that live on a smart phone!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love being able to stream Netflix and YouTube videos straight from my smart phone to the tv. All those awesome videos where it would be a hassle to turn on a computer to share with multiple people is only a few clicks away from projecting on to the big(ger) screen. So easy to use, we're buying one for my father-in-law.

Chromecast --- Big Disappointment
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Would I recommend this to a friend? NO. I would not even recommend this to an enemy. I bought the Chromecast and for about a week or two, my wife and I could not have been happier. We were able to mirror our computer content directly and wirelessly to our large screen TV. After the first few weeks, however, the Chromecast constantly disconnected in the middle of tv or movies and took forever to reconnect to continue watching whatever. Then it would happen several times in the middle of a show. By the time we realized how dissatisfied we were, it was too late to return it. Judging from the 5 star ratings on this product, it's possible we have a defective unit but in the meanwhile we simply bought a dedicated laptop and HDMI connection with wireless keyboard and mouse. It may have cost a little more than the Chromecast but we have no connectivity issues. Had the problems occurred in the beginning we would have returned this immediately instead of having to wait to witness the issues we had. To those with the five star ratings, how many of you still feel it's a five star product after a month, six months, a year???

Good unique media streaming product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've used numerous media players / streamers over the years from WDTV, ASUS O!Play, Sony, and Roku. I have to admit I purchased the Chromecast on a whim, and it's a neat toy, but the Roku XS is probably a better choice for most if streaming from Netflix, Amazon, Hulu is your priority. Chromecast has some unique features, but do your research first on the features and limitations before purchasing.

Excellent Product For TV Video Streaming!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Chromecast is an excellent product with a lot of development potential. It's 720P video streaming quality is similar to Apple TV for 1/3 of the cost. If you are looking to stream any online media through a laptop, tablet, or cellphone with Google Chrome this device works great. The video and sound quality are excellent and I have never had any performance issues with the device.

amazing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This little device is great, even on a slow WiFi connection. Just give it a sec to load up everything. Netflix is streaming for hours on slow WiFi connection with no buffering. Idk how Google did it but its great and super fast. Also, if you lock your phone, a mini remote will show on your lock screen for you won't have to unlock it. I highly recommend this to everyone.
