    Good but needs work

The Chromecast worked great on my iPhone with Netflix but performed subpar when using the Chrome web browser screen sharing. I think the device needs more time for developers to build software that best supports the device.

It is a nice little gadget. But it is very limited to what you can do with on the internet and casting to your tv. Now that I have purchased it, I probably would of not done so for that price if I knew it's limitation.

I love Google for it's practicality and innovative products and services. I thought that by purchasing this device I would receive that. Instead I just have a broken Chromecast. Don't get me wrong it worked for the first few month but then (After the warranty) it played out and stopped connecting to my Internet. I never changed in my internet security setting or anything it just stopped. I am very disappointed with Google and will NEVER EVER purchase electronic device from them again.

Work for 1 movie without any buffering, since then buffers every 4-10 seconds the last 4 movies. Rebooted all, factory reset Chromecast, nothing worked.

    Easy set-up is not guaranteed

I ordered this device online the first day it went on sale. BestBuy was the only vendor still taking orders when other sites were sold out. As I suspected, BestBuy did not want to miss the opportunity to take my $35. I quickly got an email saying that store delivery would be delayed. No biggie. I deal with Android and Apple devices almost daily, so I was really excited about what this device could do for the price. I have successfully connected several wifi enabled devices to several different home networks in the past with no issues, including AppleTV, Nintendo Wii, D-link wifi cameras, etc. The Chrome vision quickly turned into a nightmare when I tried to connect Chromecast to my Comcast Xfinity Arris cable modem/n-router. It would not recognize any wifi network in my master bedroom, so I moved to another spot closer to my router. I suspect that by being typically behind a TV, the Chromecast dongle may get weaker wifi signals. Even after I got it to recognize my SSID and password, it would not connect successfully to the network. I logged into my router and forced the Chromecast MAC into the router approved - which I have never had to do with any other device on this router. It finally connected to the router and the network, but it kept dropping. I noticed also that all my other wifi devices were having connectivity problems, so I suspect the Chromecast SSID was causing interference. So even if Chromecast did stay on the network and deliver its promise, it would have disrupted my other devices. In contrast, AppleTV was a breeze to connect to my network, less than 5 minutes. I am not an Apple bigot, just telling the facts. Key take-away = be careful trying to get this to work on a Comcast Xfinity Arris integrated modem/n-router.

You Get What You Pay For

My Tech Level: Intermediate Received Chromecast as a gift. Multiple unsuccessful setup attempts using Android, Win 7, and Win 8.1 Multiple hours invested with Google tech support on telephone and on-line. There is no tech support continuity; dealt with 4 different techs and each time had to start from the beginning and each time they suggested the same solutions (Google needs to revise the HelpDesk script). Conclusion: Google support is ineffective. Google eventually concluded I had a defective unit and offered to replace it. However, return process is time consuming and onerous (they bill your credit card until they receive the defective unit). I invested way more than $35 attempting to get the device to work and was unwilling to invest more time/money. Chromecast was thrown away.

Set up on my sons TV,,, it worked well for a day ,, set it back up and it crashed our whole network. Even tried to use a wifi extender with a port and made it crash again. Just tried to setup on my daughters TV,,, couldn't get it to work and crashed our network again I have a Netgear n600 if you are wondering. Troubleshooting says to change settings of the router. Not gonna do that because I feel this should be plug in play! Will be returning back these two tomorrow and gonna go with Apple TV

I bought it and installed it, and it would work sometimes, and then just not connect. I would get it to work then, after i watched one show on netflix, and would go to start the next one, it wouldn't be connected. I would try and try but it just was so inconsistent. I am returning it today. I think we are going to try apple tv, i just want something that works and isn't a huge pain in the butt.

The device stopped working completely after 4 weeks and doesn't cast from any device or platform anymore. Neither Bestbuy or Google refuse to honor the warranty that is advertised with the product. I have spent over 3 weeks on the phone with Google's horrible customer service and they refuse to stand behind their product and offer me a replacement. Don't bother wasting your money.

The product is very glitchy with Apple iPad. And only works with specific apps like Netflix and YouTube.

This is the biggest waste of money I have ever spent. If I could rate it less than a star I would. It constantly has connection issues. It either won't connect my device (I've tried 3 seperate devices) or if I can get it to connect and I choose a movie or such to play I get an error code saying it can't play for unknown reasons. Seriously don't waste your money.

Doesn't work with Netflix -error code 16003

    Posted .

This product often does not work with NETFLIX streaming, which is probably what most purchasers want it for. There is a compatibility issue, error code 16003, which for many users is not resolvable. Neither NETFLIX nor Google take responsibility for resolution, making the device a useless waste of $35 for me. In my case it worked when installed, but two weeks after the return date limit, it doesn't work with NETFLIX. Neither reinstalling NETFLIX, nor rebooting Chromecast resolved. It does work fine with You-tube for what that is worth,,, Although the device is physically compact, it is not as portable as one would hope. To move from one WIFI source to another requires rebooting the Chromecast install.

I set Chromcast up in my tablet with no problems, very easy, in fact. When I went to the Play Store to get Google Chrome (required for streaming internet content), my device isn't supported to make purchases. I decided to stream from my PC to the TV using this device, but Windows 7 is required, and I use XP. So, it looks like I paid $35 for a very nice box.

The Chrome cast itself works when it's not buffering. But having access to YouTube and pandora when it works makes this device worth $30.

    It won't let me cast

sometimes I'm skeptical about the reviews here, I'll try to explain my problem with this Item, First of all, the setup was kinda frustrating for me, I have a Mac and an Android Phone and when trying to set up the device it didn't pass the screen "Connecting to the network", so it took me awhile for this. Next day I came home after work and turn on my tv to use Chromecast, my tv showed ready to cast, but neither my laptop or android phone would detect the device in the network, so in order to make it work I have to reset my router and after that will work great, after doing this for like 3 days in row I decided to return the item to bestbuy. The device is great but in order to make it work didn't work for me. And yes I went online and look for support but got frustrated.

Its not too bad, but I have started to like the Roku stick more now because that does Miracast for both Android and Windows 8.1

Product works well streaming from my tablet. Only thing is that the set up is not that seamless. Must download several apps.
