Posted .Hi Mike, thanks for sharing your feedback with us about the Nest Learning Thermostat, and we're sorry to learn you had an issue with Wi-Fi connection. Nest thermostats connectivity issues could be related to power issues, which may occur when your system wires can't deliver enough power to keep the thermostats charged up. The thermostat uses the voltage from your system’s wires to keep its internal battery charged, so if the power from your system is insufficient, the thermostat will run on battery for a while but will turn off features like Wi-Fi to preserve battery life before it must turn off completely.
Here are some troubleshooting steps that might help in the event that your thermostat has connectivity issues:
- Restarting your thermostat will refresh your connection. You can restart it by going to Settings > Reset > Restart.
- Unplug your Modem/Router for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Check for sources of Wi-Fi interference (cordless phones, baby monitors, microwaves, bluetooth devices, wireless video equipment)
- Check your battery level, press the thermostat ring to bring up the Quick View menu Settings > Technical Info > Power. Look for the number labeled Battery. If the battery charge is below 3.6V, there might be a power issue.
- If this is related to a power issue, disconnect the thermostat from your Wi-Fi. Check if the thermostat maintains a charge after.

Not lucky with the Refurb Units

Iffy product, even worse customer service!

Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Immediately out of the box the product wouldn't connect to either the google or nest app. Best Buy suggested that I pay for a service tech, which is ridiculous as the unit arrived literally 3 days prior AND I'm a paying totaltech member. Or I should pay for another refurb unit to be delivered to me BEFORE return the original because it's only working thermostat we have. I opted to returned the unit and give Lowe's my money for a new one.

Google sent a defective replacement

Could not connect to Wifi . Goggle sent replacement after taking a deposit. Replacement did not work either. Had a different issue. Goggle anted a deposit for another replacement . Had worst customer service from Google. Amount of time spent on phone calls and working out was a waste and Google customer service would not budge to send me a replacement for a defective replacement without another Credit card hold.

Would love to return

Once we turned on the A/C, the fan wouldnt run. We called a heating and cooling company, paid money for trouble shooting and service call. In the end it was the Nest. We ended up buying a $40 thermostat and it worked great. We had the Nest too long and unable to return it. It took a while to find out it would malfunction.

DOES NOT work like it should.

This is the second item we received that does not work. We returned an apple watch a couple months ago because half the parts were missing from the box when we received it and the watch was scratched. Unfortunately, we weren't able to hook this NEST up immediately to our basement HVAC after receiving it and now we can't return it. It will not connect to the app and is pretty much just a really expensive old thermostat with non of the wifi capabilities. I've bought refurbished many times before with no problems. Never again will I buy anything but NEW at Best Buy.

Do not purchase from best buy. Buyer beware.

Best Buy will do everything in their power to avoid any sort of support. If they request for an agent to inspect the unit, BUYER BEWARE they have no training on how to inspect the unit, will perform a factory reset, and potentially damage your A/C unit.

faulty thermostat
