The new Nest Thermostat is exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience. Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app. Our team is working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app so all of your Nest devices can be set up and controlled in one place.

To set your thermostat on temperature hold to maintain specific temperature for as long as you want, please see the steps below:
- In the Menu view, select Hold temperature.
- Select Current temp or Eco.
- Choose a time. You can scroll up and down to edit the time by half-hour blocks.
If you’re using the Eco preset, you can also choose None to hold the temperature indefinitely until you end the hold. For other presets, your thermostat can hold the temperature for up to 24 hours.
- Select Confirm.
If you want to make changes to the temperature but there’s a hold, the app or thermostat will tell you that you need to end the hold first.

Your Nest thermostat gets its power from your HVAC system’s wiring. There are cases where these wires can't deliver enough power to support the Nest thermostat's features, then they start draining the batteries and disconnect from your Wifi network. In such cases, installing a common(C) wire between your HVAC and Nest thermostats can resolve the battery drain problem. We recommend contacting a Nest Pro technician to help check on your common (C) wire.

Hey there, thanks for letting us know of your concerns with using the Nest Thermostat, and we’re sorry to hear of your issues with power and connectivity. We can imagine how inconvenient it must have been for you, and this is not the user experience we want you to have.

Nest thermostats connectivity issues could be related to power issues, which may occur when your system wires can't deliver enough power to keep the thermostats charged up. As a result, they start draining the batteries and disconnect from your Wi-Fi and sometimes. Poor Wi-Fi connectivity can also cause the battery to drain faster. Your Nest thermostat uses the voltage from your system’s wires to keep its internal battery charged. If the power to your system is switched off or there’s a blackout, the battery has enough capacity to keep working for a while but will eventually run out. Your thermostat will also turn off features like Wi-Fi to preserve battery life before it must turn off completely.

Unfortunately, Nest thermostats require solid-core copper wires, and don’t support stranded wires. If you want to give it another try, we suggest contacting a local pro to have your thermostat wiring replaced or adapted with solid core wire so it can work with Nest thermostats.
