Our home was recently broken into. We believe they didn’t have enough time to take anything since we arrived home early. We believe it’s because we didn’t have cameras that we were targeted. Soon after that happened, we got these cameras and now we get notifications of any movement near the house. We placed one in the backyard and we placed the other by the garage, we also have the Google nest doorbell. We love the simplicity of using the app Easy to charge.

I wasn't sure how these would work without a light source, but the night vision is really good. You can even see faces. We compared security cams and this one looked like the best. We're glad we chose this one. App is user friendly, too.

The image quality is great but the sensitivity level could be enhanced. I have the sensitivity level on the highest setting on both cameras but it doesn’t pick up all of the activity.

Hello there, AmyW. We’re glad that you like the image quality of the Nest Cam (battery), and we’re sorry to hear that your experience with activity detection is below your satisfaction.

We suggest checking your camera settings as event detection depends on settings that you select. You can choose which events your camera can detect and record (people, motion, package, etc.). From there, you (and each member of your home) can decide which of those events to get notifications for. If an event is turned off, you won’t get notifications for that kind of activity. You can also change the settings like adjusting video quality, wake-up sensitivity, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas.

You may also need to check for any range issue or wireless interference that can affect the overall performance of your camera. Sometimes the camera may pass the connection test during setup, but will struggle to stay connected if it’s just a bit too far away from your router. You may also check for objects such as mirrors and refrigerators between the camera and your router as these items could block the connection. Good but in some ways they’re a downgrade. The biggest downside is you can’t use the Nest app and you have to use Google Home app which is not as good IMO. If this is your first Nest camera you’ll be fine. If you’re coming from or adding to older Nest IQ cameras you might be disappointed

I have nest gen 1 cameras and iq at the perimeter of my home. Those require power all of the time. We purchased these cameras for areas we don't see a lot of traffic/alerts. The camera does a decent job, not as good as the gen 1 or iq cameras. The picture is decent and so far battery life is as listed in the cameras description. I do not like the fact I cannot use the nest app to view these cameras like the rest of my cameras. You must use the Google home app. I'm hoping over time, google will push software upgrades to allow these cameras to reach their full potential.

    Solid hardware, but...

These cameras have the Nest name, but the issue is that they are transitioning to the Google brand. The hardware itself is solid. Once the mounts are in place, the magnets make a TIGHT connnection. But a few problems: 1) You don't get 24/7 live feed unless you buy a $35 power cord. (You can turn it on any time that you like, but that drains the battery.) 2) It's very easy for you to take down (if you need a recharge), but that means that ANYONE can also take it down. You need to buy a $15 security system to keep it secure. 3) If you have other nest cameras, you'll have gotten used to the Nest App. Unfortunately, these do not work with the Nest App. You need to use the Google Home App. The Home App is OK, but the Nest App was better.

    Battery Life Stinks

I am super disappointed in the battery life. I am pushing to get 4 weeks but most times it doesn’t last. Reviews say average battery last 6 weeks up to 3 months. In my opinion that is totally bogus unless you want a worthless camera that is in such low quality it couldn’t discern any valuable features if needed. I am shocked they no longer offer the outdoor wires option. Google obviously isn’t proud of their battery as you can barely find any discussion on their site.

Bought this to keep an eye on my dog in the back yard, picture is amazingly clear and boots right up the minute I hit the on button, Stands up to all the cold and snow and no issues. The wide angle lens covers just about my whole yard. What I like about it best is the camera is not fixed, and can be turned and twisted into just any position you might need. Too many other cameras are in a fixed position and cannot be adjusted,

Devices work well but have drawbacks

I've been using for about a few weeks now and so far they work well. FWIW, I've got them connected to my Google Home Wi-Fi mesh system. I had hoped the cameras would be able to view scenery in the distance, but the contrast between the nearby surroundings and distant scenery prevents that (with the distant objects mostly whited out). The motion detection and alerts work well. The batteries so far have lasted as advertised. The downsides to this solution: - The units are white and stick out like crazy - wish they made it in black. I've ordered a dark brown cover to see if that obscures one device I have mounted in a tree. - You have to use the Google Home app to view video...there's no technical reason Google can't open that up to view in the browser. That's a poor user experience and doesn't delight the customer.

Hi TSF1, thanks for the feedback you provided, and we’re glad that the Nest Cam (battery) works well for you. We understand that longtime Nest users enjoy viewing their Nest camera feeds from the Nest app or web app (browser). However, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app, and to make the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant.

Also, the new Nest Cam is designed with a built-in rechargeable battery so that it's flexible to use with or without a wired power connection. It supports 2 major features that drive the size of the product: on-device computer vision with high performance and continuous video recording when plugged into power.

Having different color options is a great idea. Feedback like this helps us identify what areas we need to work on, and we’ll share this with the right team for future improvements. And if ever help is needed, we have services and assistance available for your support needs here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

This cameras have some of the best video footage I've ever seen. We have a very active household and the cameras are set up for motion detection. Even still, the battery lasts around 15 to 20 days even though they are constantly turning on with all the commotion in our home. They take about 5 hours to charge so it's pretty easy to charge both cameras. The magnet on these cameras is extremely strong. They aren't going to move, slip, slide, or anything. These cameras are top quality.

    Nest continues to disappoint

I am not impressed with these cameras, and very annoyed that my older cams work better on the Nest app and these newer cameras only work on the Google Home app. I don't care which app I use, but at least make one app fully functional with all generations of cameras. I mean isn't Google supposed to be better than that? As for the cameras themselves, they constantly disconnect and reconnect, freeze, or are unavailable. I have a very expensive and powerful mesh gaming router with extenders, a high-end modem, and 1000Gps internet. There is no reason they should have such a poor signal. Lastly, the batteries are a joke even with light traffic. They claim a couple of months, I barely get a week out of them which forced me to buy and run a cable where I didn't want to. I have 11 nest devices in my home including cams, doorbell cams, thermostats, and door locks, and I have been unimpressed with all of them. If I wasn't so deep into Nest I would not have purchased these cams. But I am, so I did, and I continue to be disappointed. Only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 is because they are much cheaper than their predecessors. I do not recommend!

I honestly can't believe Google played these cameras. Picture is clear. Battery is okay. This camera does not pick up everything. Even when wired directly and running on 24/7. I have literally walked in front of in bright mid-day sun light with no alerts. I checked the history and also no isolated alerts. I would've returned but return date expired. The battery doorbell is even worse. I should've bought the older models but held out for these. Now I regret not buying the older models.

Hi CaptainN, thanks for letting us know about the issue. We apologize for the disappointing experience you´re having with the notifications and alerts for Nest Cam (Battery).

Nest Cam (Battery) determines when something moves based on how much an image changes over a short period of time. So, your camera may not send an alert if the following is true:
      - The activity is out of your camera’s field of view.
      - An object is blocking the camera’s view.
      - The camera is very far away from the activity.
      - The lighting in the scene is dim or washed out.

We recommend moving your Nest Cam (Battery) by changing your camera’s angle, or change something in the scene so that you don’t miss important activity.

If you still encounter the same issue, please consider contacting our support team for further help on the issue here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest
