System actually works

Owned for 10 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.We switched from the Arlo system which was terribly buggy and took forever to load so this was an upgrade in that sense. They also look fantastic! Only issue is that the quality of the video could be better, things that are not up close are rather blurry - no way I could read a license plate with a recording but I could probably describe the car color/make/model.

We suggest adjusting your cameras’ video quality that can improve the resolution. The higher the video quality setting you choose, the sharper and more detailed your footage can be, but it also uses more of your internet bandwidth. This setting lets you choose the maximum video quality for your cameras. And whichever level you pick, your camera will automatically adjust its resolution and compression according to how much bandwidth is available. There have been a couple instances where I wanted to go back to a specific event. But there was a drop in events. Like 2 minutes before the event and then it picks up several minutes later. Happened pretty few and far between times. But I have 6 devices so I can’t really complain too much.

Great battery life. The only downside is the range for how far away movement will trigger a recording event. I have a driveway about 60ft from the mounting point on the house and it seems like the max distance movement will trigger a recording is 30ft.

Posted .Hello there, Tyler. It’s great to hear that the setup of your Nest Cam (battery) went easy, and that you like its battery life. We hear your concern about the event detection feature.
Event detection depends on the camera settings that you select. You can choose which events your camera or doorbell can detect and record (people, motion, package, etc.). From there, you (and each member of your home) can decide which of those events to get notifications for. If an event is turned off, you won’t get notifications for that kind of activity. You can also change the settings like adjusting video quality, wake-up sensitivity, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas.

Great Cameras

Outside ones last me about two weeks if not more. Inside ones about a weekd. I have mine recording all the time. These cameras will not consistently record unless they are connected to a wall outlet.

I don’t love that they only come with a short cable for power as charging can be annoying but tolerable . I preferred the last version of the outdoor camera. Don’t like the need to move to google home with this version

It's a bit of a pain when it gets colder and you have to recharge more often. Also, I had a better experience with the Nest/ Google Home App with the Wired Nest Cameras in the past, as they allow you to track longer than 3-4 hours (Wired version lets you store up to 14 days I believe.)

During winter, the battery life of Nest Doorbell (Battery) may have less than half the life that it has at temperatures close to -4°F (-20°C). Keep in mind that the battery life may vary since it will still depend on factors including activity, temperature, and selected camera settings.
Nest Cam (battery) can accommodate up to 10 days of continuous video recording (CVR) and 24/7 video history, and you can even get 60 days of event video history, if hardwired to power and subscribed to Nest Aware Plus ($12 a month for all of your cameras, speakers, and displays on the same home structure).

Battery life was abysmal though. Getting a non-wired camera I knew I would need to charge the camera every once in a while. But it felt like every few days I was getting the notification that my camera battery was low. I ended up returning the cameras.

Fine Camera, lacking features

I get about a week on a charge. They could last much longer if there was a way to trigger them on and off with Google Home Automations or even a simple turn on when away, but sadly no such setting. Can't even schedule them on or off at certain times of the day. People have been complaining about this since they came out, but Google has yet to remedy this.

Having no screws is also very convenient for when it's time to give it a little clean, or if it not hooked up to an outlet and it's time to charge the battery.
