Disappointing Product, Not Worth The Price

While I've been a longtime Nest user and have always been satisfied with the product line, this is a dud. Not integrating with the Nest App feels like a big miss (the Google Home UI is poor), the resolution quality is incredibly grainy and pixelated relative to the competition and the connectivity is always very touchy (while all other nest devices on the same network are bulletproof). On top of that is a price point that's nearly 3X the competition, while delivering a sub-par product. Not sure where Google lost their way here, this one is a disapointment.

Hi Mark, thanks for sharing your experience with us. We´re sorry to hear of your disappointment with the Google Home app, poor resolution and connectivity issue with your Nest Cam (Battery).

Our goal is to make the Google Home app the one place where you can control all your favorite Nest devices and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. Here are some benefits you can get by using the Google Home app with your Nest Cam (Battery):
      - Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
      - Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, """"Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup.
      - One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
      - Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.

Here are some recommended steps below that you can try out to see if it might be helpful with the connectivity issue:
      - Check your Wi-Fi network for possible congestion. Relieving some of your connected devices may help free up some bandwidth space.
      - Check the distance between Nest Cam (Battery) and your router. Ensure that it's within a line of sight from your router.
      - Check for wireless interference with other Wi-Fi hotspots or appliances and devices nearby.

We believe that Pixel count is only one factor that impacts video quality, and it shouldn’t be the only deciding factor when choosing a camera. Nest Cam (Battery) has HDR video quality that’s optimized to save battery, while giving you a clear view in bright sun or dark. For any other concerns you may have about Nest Cam (Battery), you´re always welcome to contact our support team using this link:  https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

I'm so disappointed to see Google phasing out the nest app. I bought this new battery camera, it works great don’t get me wrong. But the google home app is nothing compared to the Nest app. If you have an older nest cam you have to go back and forth between the apps to view the camera history. The google home app tracks my location all the time so it’s hard on my phone battery, and my phone will be warm when I pick it up. The Nest app is so fast and snappy. So much more user friendly. I’m returning this new “Nest cam” and changing brands.

These cameras work fine under daytime conditions but don't show anything in the dark. For that purpose, you'd need to get ones with motion sensor lights or put your camera in a well-lit area. They cover a broad range. I added solar panels to keep them charged.

Was waiting for a while to have a nest camera that is battery supported. Although don't like the fact that it won't give the 24hr recording feature unless it's plugged in. Overall the camera is great it does what it needs to do in my opinion.

Simple to add to my existing Google Nest products, battery life is good, though I hardwired one now. Plenty of other cameras cheaper but the quality is good, one of my kids was helping install and dropped the camera and not even a scratch.

Great For Google Lovers - Google Home Software Lac

At the time of this review I have see lots of work to be done in the Google Home app where these new cameras need to be viewed. Many features such as video time scanning and clips creations are missing. No complaints of the cameras build quality or video feed. Think the shortcomings of the Google Home software can easily be remedied as long as Google is willing to fix the software. For those users that currently have Nest cameras and want to add to their arsenal of security cameras I'm sorry to say that these are not compatible with the Nest App and MUST be viewed within the Google Home app (lacking software features currently found in Nest app).

Hi Jose, thanks for giving us your honest feedback about the Nest Cam (battery), and we’re sorry to hear that the Google Home app lacks some software features found in the Nest app.

Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app. Users with older cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams. Our team is working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app so all of your cameras can be set up and controlled in one place.

We're always here to help you improve your experience. If you have any issue with your Nest camera and with using it effectively in the Google Home app, please feel free to find us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

    Nest continues to disappoint

I am not impressed with these cameras, and very annoyed that my older cams work better on the Nest app and these newer cameras only work on the Google Home app. I don't care which app I use, but at least make one app fully functional with all generations of cameras. I mean isn't Google supposed to be better than that? As for the cameras themselves, they constantly disconnect and reconnect, freeze, or are unavailable. I have a very expensive and powerful mesh gaming router with extenders, a high-end modem, and 1000Gps internet. There is no reason they should have such a poor signal. Lastly, the batteries are a joke even with light traffic. They claim a couple of months, I barely get a week out of them which forced me to buy and run a cable where I didn't want to. I have 11 nest devices in my home including cams, doorbell cams, thermostats, and door locks, and I have been unimpressed with all of them. If I wasn't so deep into Nest I would not have purchased these cams. But I am, so I did, and I continue to be disappointed. Only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 is because they are much cheaper than their predecessors. I do not recommend!

I was already aware of camera only being part of google home, not nest app. Which is fine since I use both. My only complaint is battery life, doesn’t last long on balanced setting. I already purchased cable, so it’s hard wired now.
