Nice cameras, but like the old Nest App better

We’re aware that longtime Nest users enjoy having the option to view their Nest camera feeds from the web, and we are working on adding this experience. However, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app.

For slow display, we could be looking at a possible connectivity issue that affects the overall performance of your Nest Cam. It can be caused by different factors like location and distance of Nest Cam, Wi-Fi router, outdated phone and Google Home app. This may also be caused by Wi-Fi network congestion and Wi-Fi interference with other devices and/or networks. Removing other devices from your Wi-Fi might help. You can also try setting up your device on either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands and see which band is more reliable.

Google's Massive Fail

What a travesty that Google has done to the Nest Cam/Dropcam legacy, which pioneered this segment. Needed to replace 2 of 6 Nest Cam Outdoors with Nest Aware. I looked on the Google site to make sure these new 2021 models would integrate. It stated yes. Now having opened the box, to find out that these will ONLY work with the Google Home app, not the Nest App with the other cameras. They've literally killed the Nest App with this update. QR code scan on the new model will only bring you to Google Home app, even when adding in the Nest App. (at least Sonos has the courtesy to advise of the divide with legacy products vs new products in their S1/S2 apps plus offered trade in value) Love Best Buy & will continue to shop but now questioning what is out their to replace all of our Nest Outdoor Cameras.

Using the Google Home app provides a lot of benefits including access to Google's trusted security platform and access to other Google tools and with seamless integration with other Google devices. Users with older cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams.

Google nest cam

Neither camera would communicate with my Google doorbell during the setup process, apparently an essential step to setup wifi parameters. There is no way to simply directly enter credentials for the wifi - seems to be a common problem. I returned the items, after spending a great deal of time attempting to configure them. The hardware seems well designed, and high quality, otherwise this would have been one star.

I tired to give it a chance, but it's just not a successor to previous models. Google got rid of the 4k camera and put this garbage out. It barely catches an event. I don't get a notification trigger if a car is driving by my house going the speed limit of 25 mph. The camera misses it totally! I came home around 10pm and it did not record my car backing into the driveway. It barely caught me walking to the front door. Google needs to fix this asap. Nest was supposed to be the Cadillac of smart security cameras. Now they're a Kia. Wake up Google. Listen to your customers and not to your stockholders.

Your camera runs algorithms to process video and audio data so it can determine whether it detected something you might want to know about. If you only need your camera to detect people, animals, or moving vehicles, we recommend that you do not turn on the basic motion and sound detection feature. Also, Nest camera notifications are a little different. You can choose to receive notifications for everything your camera detects, or choose notifications for only certain types of activity. If you’ve turned on critical alerts, you should receive some push notifications even when your phone is set to Do Not Disturb. You can create Activity Zones to cover areas in your camera’s view that you care about, and choose the type of motion you want to be notified of for each zone. You might have to move your camera, change your camera’s angle, or change something in the scene so that you don’t miss important activity. Nest Cam (Battery) supports 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi standard and works on typical dual band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz routers. It also supports WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPA3 security encryption. You may want to check on your router's specification and security encryption that you're using. If the issue isn't related to either the Wi-Fi specification or security encryption, then we may need to have a close look at your device. Spent 7 hours on the phone with tech. It was a vicious cycle of scanning qr and returning to main page. The style is nice, i loved the options and look but these cameras are a hastle. They cost $125 for someone to install and i think thats intentional. I returned for blink and it took 5 minutes for me to hook up by myself.

I have a lot of Google home and Nest products so I figured, might as well get the nest cam when I was looking at security cams. First of all the picture is SO GRAINY, poor color, poor quality, not that great in dark either but even in mid light. Besides that, it can really only go on the magnetic hold one way, otherwise the image is upside down, so then when you're nailing it up you have to make sure that right where it twists on will line up exactly how you want your camera to point. Would much rather have a camera that I can adjust to rotate instead of having to unscrew it and nail it back up in the position I want if it's slightly off. Setting it up in the app was a pain too, the nest app wanted you to set it up in Google home app and Google home app wanted to use nest app, but got that working - trick is, when you say Google product it doesn't find it but then you can skip your other products you have and scan it. You can't say works with Google and select nest because it will give you that loop instead of letting you scan it. Anyways, my biggest gripe is not being able to adjust it and the quality of camera so I'll be returning for a diff kind.

Video quality for Nest Cam (Battery) may be affected by different factors. Here are some recommended steps that may help improve the video quality:
- Clean the lens with a soft cloth that’s made for cleaning optics. Dust, thumbprints and dirt can cause poor image quality.
- Turn your camera so that any nearby surfaces or objects (like a wall) are out of view.
- Use the Google Home app to zoom and enhance and crop out surfaces or objects that may be causing glare.
- If you see a bright white shape along the edge while everything else is too dark, there might be a surface that’s too close in your camera’s view (like a wall). Angle your camera so the surface stays out of view.
- Move nearby objects that may be reflecting the infrared light.
