At temperatures between -4°F (-20°C) and 32°F (0°C), the camera will continue to work, but the lithium-ion battery in your Google Nest camera or doorbell won’t be able to charge. Many devices, including popular models of doorbell cameras and cell phones, use lithium-ion batteries for their high power and long life, but these batteries are also affected by temperatures below freezing. If the battery drains completely, the camera will shut down. For wired installation setups with a Nest Cam (battery), the wires power the camera directly. At temperatures below freezing, the battery won’t charge, but as long as the wired power source is available, the camera can operate in temperatures down to -4°F (-20°C). We’re also focused on giving our customers value for the price, including three hours of event history right out of the box for the first time ever. On-device processing also gives you smart alerts and Activity Zones, which historically have required a subscription. There's no fee to stream full resolution live video and receive basic notifications, as long as your camera is connected to the internet. The Nest Cam (battery) comes with event video history without a subscription which will automatically expire and be deleted after 3 hours. On the other hand, you might want to consider connecting your camera to a power outlet with the included power adapter for continuous power and to keep the battery charged. Please note that the power adapter included with the Nest Cam (Battery) is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use, and you can use a compatible weatherproof cable (5 meters or 10 meters). Checking for objects such as mirrors and refrigerators between the cameras and your router can help, as these items could block the connection. If you have a good Wi-Fi connection but the camera is offline, this can happen if the device gets too hot or too cold, and can be avoided by these:
- Your camera should not be exposed to direct sunlight
- Avoid placing your camera near objects that can cause overheating like light bulbs, lamps, large equipment/appliances, air vents, etc. Your camera needs good air circulation. Never install it in any kind of small box or enclosure as this can cause overheating.
- If mounted outdoors, you can install it under an eave or overhang, or even install a small shade above it.

We wanted to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, and Google Assistant. It offers you a lot more benefits since you have access to Google´s security features as well. The video quality issues you are experiencing may be caused by connectivity issues in your network. Here are some suggested troubleshooting steps you can try out:
- Check your Nest camera's distance from the router or access point.
- Restart your Nest Cam (Battery). Locate the reset button on the back of the camera. Press and hold for 5 seconds. Your camera will restart, and the status light will be steady, solid white.
- Restart your router.
- Check for interference. Almost every network is subject to wireless interference which can cause problems when connecting your camera to the Google Home app. Check for any wireless interference that may be caused by thick walls and floors, competing Wi-Fi networks, from other electronics in your home.
- Check for possible congestion. Removing some of your devices that's connected to your network may help relieve some bandwidth space.

To detect anything besides a person, animal, or moving vehicle, your Nest Cam (Battery) checks for general motion in the scene. It learns what’s normally in its background view and looks for movement and changes. As a result, it can sometimes trigger not just for important things, but also for minor things like tree branches swaying in the wind. If you don't have an active Nest Aware subscription, we recommend getting one. With Nest Aware, your camera uses advanced algorithms to pick out different kinds of activity. This makes the alerts you receive to your phone, tablet, or email even more helpful.
