An Outdoor Camera?

The thing that really stood out for me was in the instructions where it mentions that the camera is not waterproof, only weatherproof. Hmm... an outdoor camera that isn't waterproof?? Maybe I didn't read the description carefully enough before I bought it. I ended up finding a protected spot for it that works well but that really stunned me. After a month of use, so far, so good.

It's a bit of a pain when it gets colder and you have to recharge more often. Also, I had a better experience with the Nest/ Google Home App with the Wired Nest Cameras in the past, as they allow you to track longer than 3-4 hours (Wired version lets you store up to 14 days I believe.)

During winter, the battery life of Nest Doorbell (Battery) may have less than half the life that it has at temperatures close to -4°F (-20°C). Keep in mind that the battery life may vary since it will still depend on factors including activity, temperature, and selected camera settings.
Nest Cam (battery) can accommodate up to 10 days of continuous video recording (CVR) and 24/7 video history, and you can even get 60 days of event video history, if hardwired to power and subscribed to Nest Aware Plus ($12 a month for all of your cameras, speakers, and displays on the same home structure).

Given that they run on batteries, you can practically set them up anywhere inside or outside the house. I've set mine up near our front door, and another in front of our garage. The batteries seem to be pretty good. Only charged them up once so far, and they're still good for another few weeks; and I have them for a few weeks already.

The notifications are great to I get it right away. The only problem is battery life. But if you use a solar panel plug or outdoor plug it then it records 24/7 and you don’t have to plug it in every three days.

I don’t love that they only come with a short cable for power as charging can be annoying but tolerable . I preferred the last version of the outdoor camera. Don’t like the need to move to google home with this version

They’re pretty good quality they look nice and not too difficult to set up pretty straightforward and on the app that helps you out as well. Also have two nest thermostats.

It was engineered to fail. Corrosion will build up where the charger port meets the camera. The design is not built to be waterproof or anywhere close to it. Mine lasted about 6months under an awning. Google would not even consider any warranty because I had everything except the useless cord. A C-port would have been better, still would have failed, but easily replaced. Do not buy for outdoor use. There are way better-engineered cameras for that purpose. Indoor use, sure, go for it, just know that the cord is one of a kind and uses a magnet to secure to the camera. The magnet is weak and short. Tends to fall out often. I have had two so far. Regret the purchase, and disappointed in the customer service treatment. Thanks, Apple, I mean CJ, for the awful customer experience. Tossing the nest as a whole, as I have 6 products and will use something reliable. There are free services for outdoor cameras. Not 99 dollars a year and expected to go up. Plus the software is kinda janky.

The battery isn't just bad, it's awful. I returned it and got a ring stick up camera which has much better battery and accessories.

The nest camera battery has some really great features and the camera is great. My disappointment is in the battery life, it has needed charged 1 time and told me today we have 2 days left… that means 2 charges in 1 week. I’m going to return and buy another wired.

Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios:
- Busy - About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day)
- Typical - About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day)
- Quiet - About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)
If you´re willing to try, we recommend checking the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Cam (Battery). If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your Nest Cam (Battery) and understand what may be causing it.
