We really like this camera but the battery dies pretty face. This may be “user error” as its further from our router so its often trying hard to connect. We will move it or get a wifi extender and try again. Hoping this helps fix the battery issue. Probably would hardwire in the future for cameras in spots that are further from the router.

The installation was done by the GeekSquad team. It required some time and effort to install in the beginning. It was connected to the google home app but can not connect to the nest app. One of the cameras was not transmitting images correctly, so I had to replace both, and this also did not solve the issue. I had to get a third-party repair person from BestBuy who came to fix the problem. The camera quality is good. I think battery consumption is, more especially in winter, so it will need charging at 3-4 weeks.

My installation was done in our 3 season room so it is an enclosed situation. Pairs easy with app. A few screws and you are ready to go.

Quality of the Camera is what I've come to expect from Google/Nest but just keep in mind the battery life has a LOT of variability to it. Recommend a 3rd party solar panel or just going for the wired model otherwise you can be spending an annoying amount of time taking it down to charge.
Hey there, DOHCTerrel. Thanks for sharing your review of the Nest Camera (battery)! It's great to hear you're impressed with the camera quality, but we definitely understand your concerns about the battery life variability. We understand that it can be inconvenient to take the camera down frequently for charging. Your recommendation for a 3rd party solar panel or considering the wired model is well noted. We want to provide a better resolution for your concern. Please reach out to our dedicated team of specialists on the Google Help Center here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

I love these cameras. I miss the Nest app. I am not a fan of the google home app. This new camera does not come with an outdoor cord which I think is ridiculous to have to pay for an outdoor cord when purchasing this expensive outdoor camera. The camera itself is great. The battery life is terrible and it cannot 24 hour record or even recors sound events with just a battery.
Hey there, Nikcam. Thanks for the feedback, and we’re glad that you love the Nest Cam (battery). We hear your concerns about the Home app, the included adapter, battery life, and the recording feature.
We understand that longtime Nest users enjoy viewing their camera feeds from the Nest app. However, our priority is to build a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. We’re working on bringing full functionality to the Home app as we want to create an integrated experience with other Nest and smart home devices. And while the new Nest cameras and doorbells are exclusive to the Google Home app, users with previous versions of Nest cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams.
Also, the battery life depends on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Check this link for more details: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10901611
The Nest Cam (battery) is designed with versatility in mind, it’s an outdoor/indoor battery powered device out of the box, and can be used with a set of various power accessories including two weatherproof cables with power adapter (sold separately), of 16 ft and 33 ft in length. If you find it more convenient connecting to continuous power that will keep the battery charged, which is required to get 24/7 video history if you have a Nest Aware Plus subscription, we suggest using the weatherproof cable since the included power adapter is not intended for outdoor use.
Your feedback means a lot to us. If there’s anything we can help you around the performance or functionality of your Nest cameras, please let us know by visiting us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

When ADT originally installed all of my cameras at my home, I paid close attention. Because a part of my front area of the house was not covered, I opted to purchase another camera from Best Buy, which matched the rest of my cameras. I first programmed it into the system inside And completed a full charge. It may be confusing because these are battery cameras but you do keep them plugged in so the battery remains charged. I had to order a longer charge line because the line which comes with the camera is very short. Thankfully this additional charge Line and plug was not very expensive. I mapped out my installation and then proceeded to drill a hole through the front of my garage above the big garage door. I routed the cord and plugged it into a dedicated outlet in the garage. I then attached the magnet camera to the base and installed the safety line just in case the camera was knocked off the base. The camera works just as the rest of them do which were professionally installed. If this 70 year-old lady can do it, then I bet you can too.

Was excited with my initial purchase of this product, but learned just through my own experience that it has its limitations.
Pro: It’s Wireless
This was the number one selling point for me. This aspect though, draws minimally or greatly on the battery, depending on how you set up. It could last you months, or it could be drained in a week.
When I purchased this, I saw the Nest name and had previously purchased Nest indoor cams that I am very pleased with so I didn’t hesitate to buy this wireless outdoor model.
Well this is Nest by Google. No pairing into my existing Nest App. Had to download the Google Home App to operate it.
The camera has very crisp video and great sound pick up. My live video does go black screen for a second and then picks back up about every minute or so. Night vision is not bad up close, but depth is not the greatest. One of the Cons on this totally wireless camera is that there are only the last three hours of recorded events available whereas if you use an actual power cord, it will evidently continue to record and store if you choose.
The other Nest indoor cameras were a good model aside from the yearly subscription fees.
This product to me just seems like more of a glorified trail cam that requires WiFi and constant recharging. Going to purchase an aftermarket power cord for it to see if I like the performance any better. Three stars is the best I can give it at this point.
Hi LockDoc, thanks for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the new Nest Cam (battery) didn’t meet your expectations and can’t be paired with your other Nest Cams.
Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, and Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app. Users with older cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Cams. Our team is working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app so all of your cameras can be set up and controlled in one place.
We value your feedback, and it will greatly help us in improving our products and services. You can reach out to us for further assistance anytime here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Good Battery Powered Cameras

The battery cameras were easy to install in brick walls and have good quality. I have multiple Google Home Hubs in various rooms and the Nest Hub Max in the kitchen. It's easy to ask Google to show me the cameras and see the one I want displayed on the hub.
I was a little bugged the camera two pack only came with one charging cable. Why sell two cameras and only provide one cable? I had to charge one camera before I could charge the second. It mentions that only one cable is included on the box, but still dumb in my opinion.
It wasn't a deal breaker, but the need to migrate my Nest account to Google was a negative for me. I liked the ability to look at my cameras on a web browser on a larger computer monitor.
I also don't like that I have some cameras now that I can use on my Google Home app and cameras that I need to use the Nest app for unless I want to reset those and set them up again.
One other issue I have is that I can't share my camera feeds with say my parents that like to watch my kids out in the yard since we don't live close. This process was easy to do with Nest. With Google, I can share my cameras, but I have to grant full access to my account to anyone I want to share with. The last thing I need is someone messing around with my settings because they now have full access. Please fix this by using what you already had working in the Nest App.
I don't understand how Google's app didn't at least have all of the functionality of the Nest app before forcing us to move there. I don't hate the Google app and use it often with all of my compatible smart devices. However, I think the app could already be better since their Nest option had some of these features people like me want, but did not get moved over (at least yet).
Negative comments aside, I do like the cameras and they serve their purpose. I currently have four of these cameras in place around my home. I purchased two, liked them, then bought two more while still on sale. After setting all four up two weeks ago, the average remaining battery life for the four is 70%.

A major step down from the Nest IQ...

These cameras are really just "ok." Their main advantage is the easy installation/setup and their native integration into the Google Home app. I bought these cameras to supplement my Google Nest IQ cameras and Nest Hello that I bought a few years ago, and these are a major step down in terms of quality. The picture is not that great, especially while on battery power.
They are battery operated with the option of upgrading to power with the purchase of an additional cord (not included). If you run them off the battery, you will not be able to see a live view unless you turn the camera on. On battery, they only capture and record triggers-- which, if that is what you want and you are not already committed to Nest, there are much better options out there (like the eufyCam 2 Pro which come with a 365-day battery vs the 2 months of Battery Nest Cam).
NOTE: If you are already a Nest user like me, you should know that these cameras do not work with the Nest app. They can only be viewed/installed in the Google Home app or on your Google Hub device. You will be able to see all of your Nest cameras in the Home app, but not vice versa.

I’ve read a lot of reviews I’ve these cameras since I purchased them. I wanted to take time and test for myself for several months before coming up with my own opinion.
If you use these wired, these cameras are GREAT! Not perfect but they are solid and the service works well. Google needs to do a lot to update their Google home app but I’m not going to demote these cameras because of the app, that’s what the AppStore feedback is for. Alerting works well and quickly it face recognition with these cameras are not always accurate. An example would be the cameras kept flagging one of my kids as our neighbor and they look nothing alike!
As a stand alone battery camera, they are not that great. I spent a lot of time tweaking the camera settings, motion sensitivity and everything else in between and there were just a lot of inconsistencies. I tested with myself and the kiddos walking and running around the yard and sometimes it would see them, but most often I would get any hits. I also noticed it would capture an event unless you were with 12 feet, regardless of the sensitivity adjustments. I was really disappointed by this as I really wanted to use battery mode for the backyard and wired cameras for the front. Hopefully the next gen cameras solve this problem.
So for me, as camera, YES!
Battery camera, no to meh, at your own risk.

I have purchased a significant amount of Nest Cameras (Indoor and Outdoor) in the past. I have no idea why these cameras have gotten so very large vs what they used to be. It makes for a much more noticeable unit installed. Also does not come with the cord which is an added expense whereas they always came with the unit. I do NOT use these as a battery operated unit only so have to plug them in. Not as happy with these newer outdoor cameras

I have been using Nest cameras to protect my home and family for almost a decade now. They even helped nab the man who stole my wifes car, and helped send him to prison for a very long time. Rain, snow, or shine, these products withstand everything mother nature can throw at them, and the picture quality stays strong.

Great quality camera. Wasnt sure about having to change from the Nest app to the Home app, but it all works out. Wish the battery was a little longer, but I dont think they meant for it to go in as high traffic areas as I use them in. All in all, great camera, and will be buying again.
Hi there, SeanS. We're glad to hear that you're finding Nest Cam (Battery) as a great camera. We also appreciate your feedback on the Home app and the battery life. However, the battery life of Nest Cam (Battery) will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. It's possible to extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios for your Nest Cam (Battery): Busy: About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day) Typical: About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day) Quiet: About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)
We recommend checking the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Cam (Battery). If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your device and understand what may be causing it. Quite impressed with overall ease and smoothness of the setup and installation. Previously purchased the wired version and had a requirement to add these in an area without direct power. Works easily with the strength of your WiFi. If it’s strong you can go further out. Add a solar charger and you’ll have everything you need. For complete setup and no need to take down to charge. I have had one installed for 3 weeks without a solar panel and it’s still at 70%.
