Posted .Hi there Greyes, thanks for your insights on Nest Cam (Battery). We apologize for any inconvenience you may be having with the battery issue.
Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. Users can extend the battery life of their camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios for your Nest Cam (Battery):
Busy: About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day)
Typical: About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day)
Quiet: About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)
We recommend checking the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Cam (Battery). If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your device and understand what may be causing it. Posted .Hi there Jdub, thanks for reaching out. We´re sorry to hear about your disappointment with missing notifications for Nest Cam (Battery).
Your Nest camera runs algorithms to process video and audio data so it can determine whether it detected something you might want to know about. If your Nest Cam (Battery) isn't able to recognize people and trigger notifications, you might have to move your camera, change your camera’s angle, or change something in the scene so that you don’t miss important activity. We also recommend getting the Nest Aware subscription and getting Intelligent alerts to give you better awareness of what’s happening around your home. Misses events
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The camera misses events and when it does capture an event its the last few seconds. Regardless of zones and sensitivity settings. I even call support and went through each setting. Still same trash camera. You must wire the camera and pay for the service so you can get 24/7. It will still miss events but at least you can go back. I should have returned it the first couple of days. Now im stuck with this junk.

Posted .Hi Allfacts, thanks for informing us about the issue with your Nest Cam (Battery). We apologize for any inconvenience you may be having with it, and for the shortfall in providing your support needs.
Here are some recommended troubleshooting steps you might want to try out, if you haven't tried them yet:
- Check the battery charge. The app will send multiple notifications to let you know that your doorbell’s battery charge is running low and that you should charge it. But if you didn’t have a chance to charge it before the battery got too low, simply take it off the backplate and charge it with the included USB-C cable.
- Check chime settings in the app. Your current settings may be preventing the chime from ringing. For example, someone who shares access to your Nest home may have turned the chime off, or changed the chime duration in the app.
- Check Wi-Fi connection. Check that your doorbell isn’t listed as offline in the app. If it is, use the articles linked below to troubleshoot.
- Very hot or cold weather. If it’s extremely hot or cold outside, or if your doorbell is installed in direct sunlight, the chime (and video or Wi-Fi) may turn off automatically to help protect its internal circuitry. The chime will automatically turn on again when your doorbell’s internal temperature returns to its normal operating range.
If you´re willing to try, we recommend contacting our support team again. The issue may need a deeper look from our support team. This will help us to understand what may be causing the issue and work on providing you a better experience. Posted .Thanks for sharing with us, MariaR. We hear your concern with the Nest Cam (Battery) not being consistent with its motion accuracy — we’d be happy to provide some troubleshooting steps to make sure it’s working optimally:
Set up and use Activity Zones — create a zone around a door if you want a notification when a person walks through it. The person who walks through the door activity zone also creates an event in your video history timeline.
Turn on Familiar face detection — Familiar face detection teaches your Nest camera how to tell the difference between the faces you know and don't know. Over time, it starts to recognize people you know and send you more helpful alerts.

Posted .Hi jadm, thanks for reaching out. We´re sorry to hear that the overall video quality for Nest Cam (Battery) didn't meet your expectations.
Your Nest Cam (Battery) has full HD resolution with HDR video quality that’s optimized for a clear view in bright sun or dark. Keep in mind that it also helps save battery power. We believe that video resolution is only one factor that impacts video quality, and it shouldn’t be the only deciding factor when choosing a camera. However, if the images on your video seem too pixelated or blurry, then we recommend checking on your network for possible congestion as your bandwidth may not be enough to seamlessly connect all your devices, including Nest Cam (Battery). To isolate this issue, we recommend removing all your connected devices and then checking if the video quality for your Nest Cam (Battery) will improve.
We´re hoping you will reconsider to keep using your Nest Cam (Battery). You can always contact our support team for your support needs, by reaching out to us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Huge step backward for Nest
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought 3 of these from a different retailer and have been using them for about six months now. I have been a long time Nest user (since the good old days prior to the Google buyout), and have literally every product they have come out with prior to these cameras, all of which have been fantastic. And then comes this little gem. Where to start? First, the positives. The picture quality and night vision are good, in line with the older cameras, although not as good as the Outdoor IQ. Motion sensing is good when you have the camera positioned correctly. Installation is super easy and the magnets are crazy strong. And that’s where the good stuff stops. The battery life is awful if they are in a busy area (3 days for my two busy cameras), so I ended up buying a power cord for one of them, which I would recommend if you must have these. The one in the less busy area gets over a month of battery life, but I also don’t have it adjusted quite right, so it’s missing a lot of motion. I did adjust some of my settings to try to improve battery life, but I wasn’t comfortable sacrificing much awareness of what was going on around my home. If you want 24/7 continuous video recording, you obviously need the power cable. I have definitely discovered that I would rather have always on over the hassle of recharging all the time. Charging takes quite awhile, too, about 4-5 hours, so if you don’t want any down time on your cameras, that’s a consideration. With these cameras, the alerts for dogs barking and people speaking has gone away, even when powered continuously. I use the dog bark alerts to know when my dogs are barking when I’m away and to quiet them by talking to them through the camera. Losing this feature is a big deal to me. And if you live somewhere that gets cold, be prepared for these cameras to not function when the temperature drops. I live in Montana, and these things quit working when it gets to around 15 degrees, even though the specs say they are rated to -4. I’ve even had them go offline due to “severe temperatures” when it’s been in the 20s. The one that is plugged in all the time does work in lower temps, and did manage to stay online to about 0 degrees a few times, but it’s not consistent. The older cameras have NEVER gone offline for weather, including the doorbell and regular Outdoor camera that are also rated to -4 degrees. And this includes temperatures well into the -20 to -30 range with wind chills into the -40s. Not super unexpected that something battery operated doesn’t work in cold temps…but I had expected it to at least work to the operating specs. Also, these cameras require you to use the Google Home app to view the cameras; you can’t see these cameras in the Nest app (the app that actually works!). The Home app is very buggy and constantly has issues staying connected to the cameras when you are trying to actually view footage or the app just randomly quits. No, it’s not a wifi issue because an older camera in one of the same places never dropped and I have great signal strength in all the camera locations. Older generation cameras can be viewed in the Home app, but frequently show as being offline in the Home app when they are perfectly fine in the Nest app. History for the older cameras is accessed differently in the Home app (and more awkwardly) than it is for the new cameras in the EXACT SAME APP. So you end up having to use two apps for cameras that are all under the Nest umbrella to be able to use all of the features, which is cumbersome and incredibly annoying. Another annoyance with the Home app is that you can’t just see all of your cameras right away when you open the app like you can with the Nest app; you have to open the app and then click on Cameras - just an extra step and something that takes longer when you are in a hurry to see something. Long story short, thanks to all of these factors, it takes longer to be able to actually see what’s going on, which is the whole point of having these cameras. These new cameras also no longer have the ability to look at your footage on the web app, which was a feature that made making clips so much easier. We also lost the ability to create timelapse videos since there is no access to the web app. The Google Home app is TERRIBLE and is a huge step backward over the Nest app. WHY would Google want to switch everything over to a new app that doesn’t even work when the Nest app has been awesome for years and years?? And then to not even make everything compatible? Google obviously has zero care for those of us who have heavily invested in Nest products over the years, which we did because the products and the software were superb, and if this is the direction they are taking Nest, they are going to find that people will move on to other products. I really wanted to like these cameras because of the convenience factor of not having to worry about where to plug in. As it is, I managed to find and purchase a couple of the older Nest Outdoor cameras and when they arrive, I will be swapping these new models out for something that actually works consistently and does what I want it to do. And hopefully I can recoup at least some of my costs by selling them online. By the looks of things, I’m not the only one doing this. Definitely do not recommend these cameras, especially if you are used to the features and functionality of the older models and Nest app.

Posted .Hi Megan, thanks for sharing the details of your experience with us. We´re sorry to hear that the battery life, motion detection and other features for Nest Cam (Battery) didn't meet your expectations.
Nest Cam (Battery) battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. Users can extend the battery life of their camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios:
Busy: About 1 month battery life (About 25 - 30 recorded events per day)
Typical: About 2.5 months battery life (About 13 - 16 recorded events per day)
Quiet: About 6 months battery life (about 2 - 5 recorded events per day)
Motion detection can be affected by many factors, including changes in the light level, and shadows moving across the frame like when a cloud moves in front of the sun. This also includes other movements within the camera's field of view like trees or bushes swaying. If you're not getting any alerts or notifications, we recommend trying out the steps below:
1. Change the Activity Zones on your camera. You can delete your existing Activity Zone and create a new one in any area within your camera's field of view. Just make sure that none of the zones you create overlap.
2. Change the angle of your camera and account for the lighting in the surrounding area.
3. Restart your Camera.
The new Nest Cameras and doorbells are exclusive to the Google Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with other Google Nest speakers and displays. We wanted to make the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. If you already have some Nest cameras installed in your home, you may transfer them to the Google Home app. Check out this help article for more information: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532

Nest has long been focused on delivering quality products to our customers. We’re also focused on giving our customers value for the price, including three hours of event history right out of the box for the first time ever. On-device processing also gives our customers smart alerts and Activity Zones, which historically have required a subscription. There's no fee to stream full resolution live video and receive basic notifications, as long as your camera is connected to the internet. However, you’ll need a Nest Aware subscription to record video and receive advanced notifications. With a Nest Aware subscription your video will be saved to the cloud and you’ll get extra features. Posted .Hi there, SteveH. Thanks for the feedback you shared about the Nest Cam (battery), and we’re sorry to hear it didn’t meet your expectations.
At temperatures between -4°F (-20°C) and 32°F (0°C), the camera will continue to work, but the lithium-ion battery in your Google Nest camera or doorbell won’t be able to charge. Many devices, including popular models of doorbell cameras and cell phones, use lithium-ion batteries for their high power and long life, but these batteries are also affected by temperatures below freezing. If the battery drains completely, the camera will shut down. For wired installation setups with a Nest Cam (battery), the wires power the camera directly. At temperatures below freezing, the battery won’t charge, but as long as the wired power source is available, the camera can operate in temperatures down to -4°F (-20°C). Posted .Hi JamilyTechy69, thanks for sharing your concerns about the Nest Cam (battery), and we’re sorry to hear your expectations are not met.
It may be helpful to adjust the wake-up sensitivity of your camera to decide when to wake up and start recording. If the wake-up sensitivity is low:
- It decreases the range at which the camera can sense activity.
- It increases the amount of time it takes for the camera to wake up once it senses activity.
Here's how to adjust the wake-up sensitivity in your camera settings:
- Open the Home app.
- Touch and hold your device's tile.
- Tap Settings > Video > Wake-up sensitivity.
- Choose the High Low setting.

Posted .Hi Chris318, thanks for sharing your feedback about Nest Cam (Battery). We’re sorry to hear that the motion detection feature isn’t working as expected.
Motion detection for your Nest Cam (Battery) can be affected by changes in the light level, and shadows moving across the frame like when a cloud moves in front of the sun.
We'd like to help you troubleshoot the motion detection issue further with your Nest Cam (Battery). If you´re willing to try, please contact our support team so we can provide further assistance using this link: https://support.google.com/googlenesthelp

Does NOT work with Nest app or products!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a full collection of Nest products (thermostat, doorbell camera, indoor and outdoor cameras). Please be aware that this new Google camera does NOT work within the Nest app, and that the Google Home app does NOT support all functions of the Nest products. Not recommended for anyone who has Nest products and hopes to add another camera.

Posted .Hi there, we appreciate you for being heavily invested with Google Nest products, and thanks for sharing a review about the Nest Cam (Battery). We’re sorry to learn that it didn’t meet your preferences and needs.
We’re aware that longtime Nest users enjoy viewing their Nest camera feeds from the Nest app and web app, however, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. We chose to transition to the Home app because this app is designed for the future of the smart home, a single place to set up, manage, automate, and control your home. Most home devices are controlled across multiple apps, but we’re working on making the Google Home app the central controller across all your home devices, including Google devices and devices from other brands. Our team is working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app so all of your cameras can be set up and controlled in one place.
We’re always here to help improve your experience. If you have any concerns about the performance and features of Nest Cam (Battery), please visit us anytime here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp
