I’ve been using Nest for years. Way back to the beginning. It’s always been a solid performer and you get a lot of bang for your buck with the subscription. What I do not like as of the last couple of years is Google doing what Google does best and forcing migration into their app. This camera setup is part of Googles new push to force you the user into using their app. No longer can you use these new cameras with the very good Nest app. I avoided buying these new cameras for the sole purpose of not wanting to use Googles terrible Home app. But my Nest “Legacy” cameras started failing and you can no longer buy them so I really had no other choice if I wanted to continue to use Nest cameras. Other than the terrible Google app, the cameras still work just as good as the legacy cameras. Keep in mind they are all now battery powered, out of the box. And if you want immediate, live video access you are forced to buy an extra power cable for plug in. Classic Google money grab. Operationally wise, it’s still got Nest at its heart so I’ll continue to use them until Google does something totally unacceptable. If you’re reading this Google, fix your terrible app. It’s horrid.

Hi CaptStabbin, thanks for leaving feedback and for being a longtime Nest user. We’re sorry to learn of your disappointment with the functionality of the new Nest Cam (battery) in the Google Home app. The new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. You’ll be able to view both your old and new Nest Cams together in the Home app, and we’re working on bringing the full functionality to the Home app so all your cameras can be controlled and set up in one place.

We're taking your feedback seriously as it helps us better understand our customers’ preferences and needs. And for any of your support needs, our dedicated team is always ready to help you here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

The Google Nest Cam is an absolute game-changer for home security! Its sleek design seamlessly blends into my living space while delivering impeccable video quality. The ease of setup and integration into the Google ecosystem is impressive. I love the mobile app, which allows me to check in on my home from anywhere. The two-way audio feature adds an extra layer of convenience and security. Whether it's monitoring my pets or keeping an eye on my front door, the Nest Cam provides peace of mind. The price is reasonable for the value it offers, making it a top-tier choice for anyone prioritizing home security.

The Google Outdoor Camera offers reliable surveillance with crisp video quality. Its weather-resistant design ensures durability, while seamless integration with Google ecosystem enhances user experience. The intuitive app allows easy remote monitoring, and features like motion detection and two-way audio add to its functionality. However, a slightly higher price point might deter budget-conscious consumers. Overall, a solid choice for those invested in the Google ecosystem seeking a dependable outdoor security solution.

    Not A Long Battery Life

We currently have a wired camera system and has served us well for 6 years. Unfortunately, it's beginning to show it's age with a few malfunctions. Replacing the cameras with new ones is not an option; too old and out-of-date. So, in our search, I chose to purchase the Nest Cam Battery. The picture is great! However, the battery only lasts less than 3 weeks. It's placed at the front of our house, so it does capture quite a bit of activity. I'm sure it would be even more if we didn't live in a cul-de-sac and probably lower battery life. On the lighter side of this, you can purchase the optional power supply BUT you have to have an outlet nearby.

Hi 2DemandingKitties, thank you for sharing your experience. We are sorry for the poor battery life with your Nest Cam (Battery).

Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios:
      - Busy - About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day)
      - Typical - About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day)
      - Quiet - About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)

If you´re willing to try, we recommend checking the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Cam (Battery). If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your Nest Cam (Battery) and understand what may be causing it. IL residents waste battery life without familiar face recognition. Convenient that can be charged manually rather that running power. However battery life only 3 weeks if trafficked area without friendly face detection which I assume would save battery life. Picture quality is good though rarely quite high res enough to get license plates of passing Cars

I added these to my nest outdoor cameras i already had. I dont like the google home app. I wish they would let you use the nest app. However the picture quality is fantastic. Day or night. The sound is ok. Motion detection is set for people only and i do get a lot of false alerts. I am still adjusting but it picks up shadows of cars or trees moving in the wind sometimes as a person. Still, it is great for the money. I have one plugged in and one on battery. Id expect the battery to last probably 60 days before needing to be charged. I plan on running a wire to it, just havent had time yet to drill into the wall. Overall i do recommend this for most applications.

A really good quality pair of cameras that are let down by two things. Continuous recording is only available if they are plugged into power, which defeats the point of a 'wireless' camera. The battery life is not great, either. Otherwise, the picture quality is excellent and easy to use and install.

Hi hondaboy2001, we value your feedback on Nest Cam (battery), and we're sorry to hear that wired option for continuous recording, and the battery life are below your expectations.

To optimize battery life, Nest cameras offer event video history and will detect and capture important activity so you can focus on the details that need your attention. Also, you can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. That way, you don’t have to charge the battery more often than you should. Connecting your camera to a power outlet with the included or optional power adapter for continuous power will keep the battery charged. Please note that the power adapter included is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use, and you can use a compatible weatherproof cable (sold separately).

We’re always on the lookout for opportunities to improve our products and services, and your feedback counts. And if there’s anything you’d like to share, or if you need help, you can always visit us at: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Hi there, Chris5432. Thank you for choosing Nest Cam with floodlight for your home. We're glad to hear that you're having a great experience with the device. We recommend changing the settings to save the battery such as lowering the battery usage. When you lower the battery usage, your camera will adjust video recording settings to do the following:

      - Optimize its video quality.
      - Shorten the length of time for which events are recorded.
      - Take longer to begin recording between events.

If you need assistance with lowering the battery usage or if you've tried this step before, then we advise that you reach out to our support specialists so we can help improve your overall experience with the device. I already own 2 Nest IQ Outdoor Cameras which I totally love. Should have done a little more research. The battery cams only work with the Google Home App and not the Nest App which my IQ cameras are on along with my Nest Thermostat. The battery cameras only record when there is some type of activity unlike the Outdoor IQ cameras which record continuously. Yes you can hardwire the battery cameras to get continuous recording which I did but that kind of defeats the battery option. I realize that the battery cameras don't record 24/7 to conserve battery life. The Nest Aware subscription is also different on the battery cameras compared to the Nest IQ Outdoor cameras. If I had it to do all over again I would have got 2 more IQ cameras since I had to hardwire the battery cameras anyway.

Hi Redram, thanks for being an advocate of Google Nest products. We apologize for any disappointment you may be having with the move to the Google Home app, the hardwire requirement to get continuous video recording and with the changes to the Nest Aware subscription.

Our goal was to make the Google Home app as the one place where you can control all your favorite Nest devices and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. Here are some benefits you can get by using the Google Home app with your Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired):
      - Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
      - Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, ""Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup.
      - One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
      - Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.

Continuous video recording drains a lot of power from Nest Cam (Battery), and hardwiring enables you to use this feature without draining the batteries. We´ve made
some change to the new Nest Aware subscription plans since you get more value for your money by paying for one subscription only, for all the Google devices in your home structure. You can get more details about the new Nest Aware plan by visiting the Google Store, then look for Nest Services here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9546397

Google Nest Cam Battery seems like Beta as there seems to be issues of many kinds.Ibought the 2 pack and can only get 1 going. There seems to be many issues similar to this.I wan't worried about past Nest Cams because i didn't have any.the first Camera went smooth and I like the ease of mounting. No wires gives you many options on location.Make sure to mount higher than you can reach but not so high that you can not get to it to recharge Now the second cam not so much.It is still not setup.I did resets and even made a 2ND Home network out of desperation=NOPE.Going in I read all of the issues but i bet on Google doing updates to fix and improve the experience.I think the other camera options might be a better choice right now.I am hoping Google does do the updates to polish this up a bit.Recommended only if you want to get something to keep it all in the Home Network AND believe Google will step up.

It’s very sleek and convenient to instal and connect. But it misses a lot of events while capturing others in less important areas. Even though you can select fields to increase sensitivity. There doesn’t seem to be any consistency with what it detects. It also can take a long time to connect to my phone which I don’t understand. I also have blink cameras on the interior which are plugged in for electricity but connect to wifi. I never have a problem waiting for those to connect.

Hello there, KarenC. Thanks for posting a review about the Nest Cam (battery)! We appreciate you highlighting both the easy setup and the areas for improvement.

We hear your concerns with missed events and inconsistent detection. Here are a few things that can help:
      - Double-check your motion zones to ensure they cover the most important areas. You can adjust these in the Google Home app.
      - While you've adjusted the sensitivity settings, there might be a sweet spot for your environment. Try fine-tuning the sensitivity to reduce false triggers and improve detection of what matters.
      - Consider if the camera angle needs adjustment for better coverage of key areas.
      - As for the slow connection time, we apologize for the inconvenience. Unlike your Blink cameras that are constantly powered, Nest Cam (battery) goes into "Idle" mode to conserve battery. This can cause a slight delay when waking up to connect.

We'd also be happy to look into your specific situation further. Feel free to contact our support team directly, and we’ll do our best to assist you: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest
