We have four of these outside the house set to record motion at night or when we leave the house. Great for peace of mind, fun to get animal activity and convenient to make sure the horses are still standing when we’re away. The app is pretty easy to use and simple install as well. Batteries last for months at a time - although if you live in a northern climate like us, they may turn off to conserve battery on cold nights. Unless you subscribe to a service from Google, it only saves recordings for a few hours. If you hope to watch any recorded animal activity when you wake up in the morning or have any security evidence if something happens, be prepared to spend a few extra bucks per month. Could have given you 8 hrs for free - 3 hrs feels like they’re heavily steering you to the subscription.

I used to be a huge fan until Google purchased nest and ruined one of the best solutions for homeapplications. These camera do a nice job but the battery life is terrible. The other issue with Googles approach of poor cloud services cause serious lag from the time an incedent / activity occurs to the time you get a live update. The notification are can lag by a minute at times.

Hi there, Getrusty. Sorry you’re having trouble with battery life and notification with the Nest Cam (Battery). Battery consumption will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and selected camera settings. On average here’s how long the battery will last on a single charge:

Busy - About 1 month battery life (about 25 - 30 recorded events per day)
Typical - About 2.5 months battery life (about 13 - 16 recorded events per day)
Quiet - About 6 months battery life (about 2 - 5 recorded events per day)

Here are a few tips to conserve battery:
      1. Optimize its video quality.
      2. Shorten the length of time for which events are recorded.
      3. Take longer to begin recording between events.

Cameras have great video quality and easy to install/setup with your Google account. Access via phone anywhere anytime. You can extend the record hours with a subscription but you can do without it too. Charge last pretty long depending on weather conditions. Great purchase, might get one more!

I've bought one just like this one and the battery last awhile. But this one's battery is going dead in least than 2 months and needs to be recharged more often. The camera is good quality but the battery is poor on this one

I’m an existing Nest user with an Outdoor IQ camera and a Hello. The new camera works well with even better quality than the IQ, but honestly I expected slightly better video quality even when set in max than I get. Sometimes it seems a little pixelated. Google also has work to do on their app for the camera. It has some bugs with video playback and usability, but I’m hopeful that they’ll clean that up with time.

Hello there, Marmorse. We appreciate your feedback and we’re glad that you find the Nest Cam (battery) with ease of use. We hear your concern about having one charging cable only for the 2-pack cameras. The inclusion of a single cable is intentional, as the cameras shouldn't usually need to be charged at the same time due to differences in usage, such as event frequency or scene the camera is observing, sensitivity and event duration settings, and more.

We’ll share your feedback with the right team as we’re constantly looking to improve the reliability, usability, and use of various features. If help is needed, let us know by visiting us anytime here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Google Nest-Cam to Keep an Eye on my Home

Google Nest-Cam cameras are great for keeping an eye out on your home and surroundings. Because they’re rechargeable, there’s no need for wiring and they can be mounted anywhere. They connect to my Google Home app thru our wi-fi, so I can see everything from my cellphone and it lets me know when a person (or pet) is seen by the camera. Plus I use facial recognition in Google Home to let me know who it is. Great addition to my home!

      Posted .

Hi there, thanks for your feedback. We´re sorry to hear about the poor battery life and hardwiring option for Nest Cam (Battery).

Nest camera battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. Users can extend the battery life of their camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios for your Nest Cam (Battery):
Busy: About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day)
Typical: About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day)
Quiet: About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)

If the battery life of your Nest Cam (Battery) doesn´t meet the recommended battery life above, then it´s important to check the frequency of events (per day) that you get on Nest Cam (Battery). If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your device and understand what may be causing it. NEST CAMERA NOW GOOGLE

I don’t have enough words to explain my disappointment. I had Nest cameras for many years until Google took over. After that, my cameras became a complete disaster. Before Google, my cameras worked fine and fast and I was able to record and speak through it without any connection problems. It was very easy to navigate through my cameras using the Nest app. Now my cameras do not work properly meaning that responding to the door bell can take up to 30 seconds to a minutes. My cameras are constantly losing connection ain’t no matter how fast and strong your Internet and Wi-Fi is. I will not recommend to purchase these cameras or anything related with Google. I will wait for my cameras to die because I already spent a lot of money in it, but I will never ever buy cameras connected with Google anymore. My experience with Google is the worst and you will regret it too if you buy the cameras. My sister uses a different system and different cameras he has no problems with connection, listening, recording, speaking through it. You are not gonna have any clear communication or connection with Nest Google anymore. Do not buy this cameras you will be sorry like me.

Can’t really use the Nest App for the newer Cams

I’m a little bit disappointed that I can no longer use my nest app to view the video feed on newer nest cams and forced to use google home app. I have a few older gen Nest cameras/doorbell camera so I have to use both google home app and nest app to view the video feeds. It’s very annoying to switch between apps instead of having it in one app and I don’t really like using the google home app to view the cameras.

Hi nate17, we really appreciate you for sharing your feedback with us about the Nest Cam (battery). We can imagine how having to use two different apps can be an inconvenience for you, and we’re aware that longtime Nest users enjoy having the option to view the Nest camera feeds from the Nest app. However, our priority is to create an integrated experience with other Nest and smart home devices. While the new Nest cameras and doorbells are exclusive to the Google Home app, users with previous versions of Nest cameras, like you, can view your camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams.

We request for your patience as we’re working on a seamless solution to create a better user experience. Meanwhile, we suggest having the latest version of the Google Home app that may improve camera playback controls to make it easier to play, pause, and navigate between events from the camera history view for cameras set up in the Google Home app. And if you need help with any concerns about the performance and functionality of the camera, you're always welcome to let us know here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest
