Constantly goes offline - and WiFi has perfect signal.
It’s a wireless/battery camera but will not record more than 3 hours of activity unless it’s plugged in, which defeats the purpose of being a battery camera that is wireless! It should be able to record continuously without being wired

I’ve had pretty much every brand of subscription based home cameras, and Nest has consistently been my favorite. My biggest complaint is that generation 2 cameras (this one) is not compatible with the original Nest app. The original Nest app was much easier and more intuitive to use. Fortunately, my generation 1 cameras work with the Google Home app, so I’m still able to use all my cameras on a single app, just not the Nest App.
The face recognition on the camera is fantastic, as is the person recognition. My Simpli Safe camera repeatedly mistakes leaves and my flag for a person, but my Nest cam is spot on.
Overall, really happy with these. I love the nest Nest Aware subscription too, it covers all cameras for $12 a month, whereas I was previously paying for each individual camera with the old Nest Aware Generation 1 subscription.

Hi Make46GREAT, thanks for reaching out. We're sorry to hear about the unlikely experience you're having with the battery drain issue with Nest Cam (Battery).
The battery life for your Nest Cam (Battery), is affected by factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios: Busy: About 1.5 months battery life (about 20-25 recorded events per day) Typical: About 3 months battery life (about 9-12 recorded events per day) Quiet: About 7 months battery life (about 2-4 recorded events per day)
It's important to check the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Cam (Battery). If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your device and understand what may be causing it. The product would be awesome if It rendered the service that they claimed! I am disappointed with the cashier for not executing my request for the protection coverage, myself for not checking to see if she place the protection plan and Google for the poor performance of the cameras in addition to the subscription! For this I would worse buy at Best Buy! I have called time after time to Google tech support and am still waiting for an resolution for missing videos recordings, glitches to be rectified. There seems to be a scripted version of troubleshooting for the same issues happening again and again! Not getting notifications, at times there’re notifications but no videos. A semi with a long flatbed passed by two cameras and no alerts!

It doesn't matter how easy it is to set up, the look of the product, how great the battery life is, or the support, if it can't do it's 1 main purpose.
Glad I tested out the quality before installing it on my house. If the video can't pick out any distinguishing features on me at 24 feet away, it's not gonna be able to help law enforcement if I wanted to hand footage over at all.

Hi Thomas, thanks for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that the Nest Cam (Battery) didn't meet your needs, but we appreciate you pointing these things out to help us identify areas where we can improve our products.
Nest Cam (Battery) has full HD resolution with HDR video quality that’s optimized for a clear view in bright sun or dark. You can adjust the video quality in settings to balance high resolution video with longer battery life and lower bandwidth use. Pixel count is only one factor that impacts video quality, and it shouldn’t be the only deciding factor when choosing a camera. For optimal video quality at 1080p, an internet connection upload speed with at least 2 Mbps per camera is recommended (DSL may not qualify). Please check the steps below on how to adjust video quality: - Open the Home app Google Home app. - Select your camera. - Tap Settings Video. - Under “Video quality,” tap High.
If you decide to give Nest Cam (Battery) another try in the future, please feel free to reach out to our support team for any questions or concerns and we'll be more than happy to assist you. You can contact us here anytime: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

I have two Nest outdoor IQ cameras and a nest wired doorbell. Both of these have better quality footage than the new battery powered cameras. But then again, the price is about half per camera compared to the IQ cameras, so a dip in quality would be expected. Overall these cameras do a good job. I go these to cover a deer food plot I have on my property that I was able to run a POE wifi router to. These are amazing for this purpose and the nightvision is extremely good. I personally think the night vision on these cameras are actually better than privious nest cameras. However, If you are using these cameras to get a positive ID on someone breaking into your cars or tresspassing I would keep looking. They are 1080p, but when you zoom at all the video quickly becomes grainy.
They do not record 24/7 like previous versions, but again, these are battery powered so that would not be expected unless you want to charge your cameras constantly. They use a motion detector to trigger recordings that can be adjusted to how sensitive you want it to come on. You can set the record length of these clips up to 3 minutes. The audio is very good on the recordings.
The biggest downside is that Google is doing away with the Nest legacy app, so these cameras do not show up in the Nest app. They do show up in the Google home app, as do the previous Nest cameras you may have. So you will have to adjust to using the Google Home app instead. This isnt a huge deal if it wasnt for the lack of PC support with this app. So you are no longer able to view the footage directly on a PC. This is something I hope Google fixes in the near future.

Hi Jerryboree, it’s great to have your feedback and thanks for sharing your experience with the Nest Cam (Battery). We’re sorry to learn that you’re having issues with image quality and functionality of the Nest camera.
Nest Cam (battery) can only be set up and managed using the Google Home app. But you can view both your old and new Nest Cams together in the Home app. We’re aware that longtime Nest users enjoy having the option to view their Nest camera feeds from the web, and we are working on adding this experience. However, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. Users with older cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams. Our team is working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app so all of your cameras can be set up and controlled in one place.
Also, adjusting the video quality in settings might be helpful to balance high resolution video with longer battery life and lower bandwidth use. For optimal video quality at 1080p, an internet connection upload speed with at least 2 Mbps per camera is recommended (DSL may not qualify). Please check the steps below: - Open the Home app Google Home app. - Select your camera. - Tap Settings Video. - Under “Video quality,” tap High.

“I really like these cameras—the video quality is good and the battery holds up well. The only downside is that they tend to disconnect fairly often, and it sometimes takes a while to reconnect when I want to view the live feed. The battery life is decent, but I do wish it lasted a bit longer between charges. Overall, still a solid choice if you don’t mind those small inconveniences.”

Good Camera, Easy Setup, But No 24/7 Video

Great Camera Quality & Easy Setup, But No 24/7 Video Playback
I’ve been a longtime Nest/Google camera user, and overall, these cameras have high-quality video, are easy to setup, and a user-friendly experience. The Google Home integration is seamless, the cameras are easy to position, and the battery lasts for months on a single charge. That said, they are impacted by cold weather, so keep that in mind if you live in colder climates.
However, removing 24/7 video playback for battery-operated cameras is a huge disappointment. One of the main reasons I invested in Nest’s higher-end models was for continuous video history, not just event-based clips. As a paying customer, I expect full access to the footage for the days I subscribe to, just like older Nest products allowed. This feels like a step backward in functionality and significantly reduces their value.
If Google brought back 24/7 video history, these would be near-perfect cameras. Until then, I can’t fully recommend them for those who need constant video coverage.
If you’re experiencing the same frustration because of the loss of 24/7 video playback, please leave a review and contact Google directly. There’s strength in numbers, and if enough of us speak up, the developers may restore this critical feature!

Thanks for sharing your feedback on the Nest Cam (battery), ElizaM. It’s always great to hear from a long time Nest user and we’re glad you're happy with video quality and the Google Home app. That said, we hear your concern about not having 24/7 video playback. Due to how much power is consumed with continuous recording, the only way to get 24/7 playback is to have it wired into a power supply and have a Nest Aware subscription. Here’s a link with more information on event and 24/7 video history: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9681538?sjid=9071148289954312292-NC As always, we’re here to help anytime: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp?

The Google Nest Cam is a decent security camera, but it has its drawbacks. While the image quality is clear and it’s easy to set up, the battery life leaves much to be desired. I find myself having to recharge it at least once a week, which can be inconvenient, especially if it's mounted high up. If you plan on buying this, I’d recommend waiting for a sale and investing in the solar power attachments to avoid the hassle of frequent recharging. It’s a good camera overall, but the battery life could definitely be improved.

Peace of Mind Redefined – Totally Worth It

I have been using the Google Nest Cam (battery) for a while now, and honestly, it has exceeded every expectation I had. The setup was surprisingly simple — within minutes I had the camera up and running, connected to my phone, and giving me a crystal-clear live view of my home. The video quality is outstanding, both during the day and at night. The night vision is sharp enough that I can recognize faces and details without any problem.
What I appreciate the most is the peace of mind it gives me. Whether I’m at work, traveling, or just away for a few hours, I can open the app and instantly know that everything is okay at home. The motion detection and smart alerts are very accurate — it notifies me about people, animals, or vehicles, and I love that it doesn’t spam me with unnecessary alerts.
Battery life has also been very impressive. I was a bit skeptical at first, but even with regular use and several alerts per day, the camera holds its charge much longer than I expected. Recharging is quick and easy too.
If I had to mention one small thing, it’s that the camera is so good that I ended up wanting to buy more for different areas of my house. That’s not a negative at all, but something to keep in mind because once you try one, you’ll want more.
Overall, this product truly delivers on what it promises: reliability, quality, and peace of mind. It feels like an investment in security and comfort, and I can’t imagine not having it now.

Ok so everyone’s needs are different.
1. If you want a camera with great battery life then this one isn’t for you. For me though, I plug mine in and the battery is just a backup. This is the only camera I believe on the market that will record locally if the power and/or Wi-Fi goes out AND send it back to the cloud when the power comes back on. Arlo you can record to a flash drive but only if the Wi-Fi goes out and it wont send it back to the cloud.
2. 1080p is average but good. Nothing to complain about.
3. It is on the larger size but that isn’t an issue for me.
4. I thought the magnetic mount was a bit cheesy and so I used an adjustable I had. I didn’t like angles I was getting and so I went to the magnetic mount that came with it. I was glad i did because it is a lot better than I thought.
5. So one reason for leaving my Arlo cameras was because it would alert me for all sorts of motion even though I told it only people and animals. I find with the Google Battery cameras the alerts work very well. When I say only people it gives me only people. You also have control over record but no alert for a specific type of event.
6. So here is the biggie for me and why I gave it 5 stars and not 4…Continuous recording. I have had things happen with other cameras where it didn’t pick up the motion. That happens a lot with whatever brand you use that doesn’t use pixel changes to record. The solution was to continuous record. I was paying $20 a month with Arlo to continuous record just one camera. Now I am paying $10 a month to continuously record from all my Google cameras. That is a big savings that will pay for itself in a year or so. The downside though is that you can’t export video unless it is an event however there are ways around that if the need arises.
So the camera checks all MY boxes. For others I can see the frustration. If you like the nest app and don’t want to use Google Home then I am sure that would disappoint me too. However I don’t have other Nest products so I don’t mind using Google Home. I do however think some of the reviews are unfair because if they had done their research then they would know that it wouldn’t work with the nest app. It isn’t a secret that Google is doing away with the Nest app to bring everyone under one app (Google Home).

Pros: Easy to install and set up with google account. Image quality, both day and night vision, is excellent. Battery means no wires required.
Cons: Battery only installation has its limitations. Camera only records when it senses a person - unlike my wired Nest doorbell that is “on” 24/7. As a result you lose a second or two of the action. Battery life is all dependent on events and how often you view live. I estimate average life will be 4-5 months between charges. Something to consider with placement. I do have the solar panel on order so we will see if that helps

I've had all different types of cameras like these, ring, nest, arlo, etc. I had the Nest cam IQ ones with the person tracking feature as my latest ones. Saw some reviewers state that these new ones wouldn't have as good video quality as IQ ones and I can tell you that is not true at all.
These have excellent quality and notifications are received way faster and work much better within Google Home app. There was always a gap in time an event occurred to when I got a notification or could view video feed in the Nest app. That problem is now gone.
I have three of these around the house and two of the new floodlight cams and all work very well together and were very easy to install and setup. I have them plugged in with all weather cable. I did find on one that the cable was bad. Not really sure what was wrong with the cable, but when plugged in the app showed camera working on battery power. I swapped out the cable with a new one and it fixed the issue.
The app has features for setting activity zones and then setting how you and what you get for notifications inside AND outside your zone. Pretty sweet feature. You can also set if you want notifications for items like animals, people, vehicles, or other motion. You can also set notifications to only be received when your away since one may not want notifications while your home with your cameras on. There is also different video history options and will depend on if you have very affordable subscription service. Some cameras I set to 60 day event and 10 day 24/7 and others I set to just 60 day event. There's a handful of other settings like wake up sensitivity, video quality, night vision, etc.
Overall these cameras are a great value and high quality.

Nest products have been great so far. Biggest problems for me on these cordless cams though is connection and battery life. For the next to highest level of capture sensitivity, I’m getting roughly 3-5 days worth of battery life before recharge is needed. When recharging, the unit often times for several minutes doesn’t even realize it’s on a charger or connected to a power source (it will make a chime letting you know when juice is getting to it). Then the charge will take anywhere from 5-10 hours. Again, you will get a notification via the app that unit is charging and how long it will take before full. Not sure why it takes so long on some days but it gets charged on the same plug in the same outlet every time. Oh well may try a different outlet. Connection can be splotchy sometimes so I’d recommend a decent Wi-Fi mesh system or signal booster if you have a big house. Overall I’m satisfied with these as the setup and mounting was simple and the picture is great

I walked in right away someone asked if they can help me I was not sure about the product because I had no idea about the product because this is my first time buying cameras. She explained about the product and that her self had the same, and that they work wonderful that they were a little bit more pricier than the ones that we were looking at. But we needed the best quality to see who’s coming in and out of our property. I like the fact that they’re wireless, but not the fact that I have to charge A more frequently because of the heat but other than that the picture has great quality and picks up emotions and animals and everything that comes in and out the yard and you can see it perfectly
