Hi GoogleSuperUser, thanks for the time sharing a feedback with us and for investing on Google products. We're sorry to hear about the issues with the Nest Cam (Battery). We understand how disappointing it can be when your device is not working as you expect it, and having to use two separate apps for your Nest cameras.

New Nest cameras and doorbells are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience. Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app. Users with older cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams. Our team is working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app so all of your cameras can be set up and controlled in one place. As for the web version, we’re aware that longtime Nest users enjoy having the option to view their Nest camera feeds from the web, and we are working on adding this experience.

We understand that you have enjoyed using the Nest app with your Nest cameras. However, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. We wanted to make the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. The new Nest Cameras and doorbells are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with other Google Nest speakers and displays. Here are some benefits you can get by using the Google Home app with your Nest Cam (Battery):
- Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
- Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, "Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup.
- One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
- Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.

Continuous video recording (CVR) and 24/7 video history requires a lot of power and will certainly drain the battery for your Nest Cam (Battery) in a very short time. Hardwiring it will help fix this limitation.

For the best experience with your Nest Cam (Battery), we recommend getting the Nest Aware subscription, as it provides more value for your money with features that include 30 days of Video History, 24/7 continuous recording, access to clips and time lapses and even customizing your own activity zones. You won't ever have to worry about missing any events as these videos and clips are all saved onto the Cloud. All these features can be viewed and controlled at the tip of your fingertip using the Google Home App.

We may need to take a closer look at the issue you are experiencing. The issue may be power related, or related to a software glitch, which may require a factory data reset. We hear your concerns about having a wider field of view along with its night vision feature, and we’d be happy to share this with the right team for future improvements. Meanwhile, there are different factors that can affect the Night Vision. Try to angle your camera away from bright lights, or to install the camera in a shady spot. You should also make sure that any nearby surfaces or objects (like a wall) are out of view, since the camera’s infrared light can reflect off a surface.
