Hello Nest user, we’re grateful for your feedback, and we hear your concern about the data usage of Nest Cam (battery).

When you pick video quality and bandwidth settings, you set the maximum video quality for your camera. Your camera will automatically adjust video resolution and compression according to how much bandwidth is available. You only use download bandwidth when you watch video in the app over Wi-Fi. This typically requires the same amount of bandwidth it takes to upload the video. Your camera also uses a small amount of bandwidth to download software updates and other information from the Nest service. If you need your camera to use less data over the course of a month, you can try some of the things below:

      - Lower the video quality and bandwidth settings so that your camera won't use as much data to upload video to the cloud.
      - Use Home & Away Routines (Home app) or Home/Away Assist (Nest app) to turn your camera on and off automatically. This is especially useful if your camera has 24/7 video history, so that it doesn't constantly upload video to the Nest service.
      - Some camera and doorbell models can also use camera schedules to turn on and off automatically to help reduce the amount of data used. Please note that It's not recommended to stream camera video with a mobile hotspot.

Hi Browndawg, we appreciate you for letting us know of your experience with the Nest Cam (Battery) and we’re sorry that it didn’t meet your expectations. We understand that being unable to use the Nest app, with your 3 other Nest devices, can be frustrating for you.

New Nest cameras and doorbells are exclusive to the Google Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience. Users with previous versions of Nest cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams. Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app and our team is working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant.

We have help always available for your support needs. If you come across an issue with your Nest Cam (Battery) and with using it effectively in the Google Home app, please feel free to let us know here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Not only do they require a different app, but they fail right after the warranty is up. I have an older generation camera that works great, but these dumb things have the battery built in, so even if you wire it in the camera won't work when the battery fails. Up to this point I've just been resetting them and been able to reconnect them to the network, but that's not working anymore... so my 14-month-old camera is a paperweight. Very convenient that the warranty only lasts 12 months.

These cameras are trash worst nest product. If it’s wired so it can record 24/7 you can’t save clips unless the ai detected motion in it. You can’t pick how long of a clips you want. Forcing the google home trash app is the dumbest thing to do. The app is horrible not user friendly they are clustering to much together. want my security cameras to have its own app to be able to watch without searching for it on the horrible google home app. It’s almost like google wants nest to fail and is trying to make it as horrible as possible so no one buys these new cameras. I’m gonna return mine and look for a better option than these.you need to leave the camera viewing on the nest app not the trash google home app. How is the camera not waterproof if you advertise as a outdoor camera. Night vision is average. I really don’t understand why put the cameras viewing on the google trash app with smart lights and other “smart” devices bought them to protect my home and easily view and save clips and google made it nearly impossible to save clips on the google home trash app.

Hi John, thanks for sharing a review about your Nest Cam (Battery). We’re sorry to learn that your experience with the camera and Google Home app is below your expectations.

Our teams are working on enabling the ability to setup and control older Nest cameras in the Home app so users will have one app to control all of their devices. We’re also heading on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your other Nest and smart home devices.

The maximum clip length setting for your camera or doorbell will affect how long video clips can be. You can only download video clips from detected events in the video history. You cannot download video clips from footage with no activity. Also, Nest Cam battery has IP54 rating and can withstand dust, rain and snow.

Night vision range depends on how much light there is, and which camera or doorbell you have. Test your camera’s recorded or live video when it’s dark out and adjust its position, or add lighting if needed. If there are any light sources in the area, your camera may be able to see even farther.

We understand your choice to return it, but if you’re willing to try it out again in the future, our dedicated team will always be available to help you here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Great idea, super poor execution! The cameras were fully charged and then discharged after ONE DAY!! Thank God I can still return it!! Bye bye Google Nest, I'm off to find something better, you know something that actually works. I've had two different (MUCH CHEAPER) security systems before and just wanted to upgrade. Nest is most definitely NOT an upgrade unless you want to keep charging your cameras daily. Also, the doorbell is impossible to get off with the tool they give you, so you can't charge that either (that drained the batter after one week!!)

Hi TiffaneyD, thanks for your feedback. It's unfortunate to hear that your Nest Cam (Battery) isn't able to identify over half of the events that happen for your home, and we apologize for any disappointment this experience may have caused you.

Motion detection on Nest Cam (Battery) can be affected by changes in the light level, and shadows moving across the frame like when a cloud moves in front of the sun. This also includes other movements within the camera's field of view like trees or bushes swaying. If you're not getting any alerts or notifications, we recommend trying out the steps below:
      1. Change the Activity Zones on your camera. You can delete your existing Activity Zone and create a new one in any area within your camera's field of view. Just make sure that none of the zones you create overlap.
      2. Change the angle of your camera and account for the lighting in the surrounding area.
      3. Restart your Camera.

If the issue still persists, please contact our support team so we can provide further assistance using this link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest
