Didn’t Even Last 60 Days – Straight Trash

I bought the Google Nest Cam (Indoor/Outdoor, Wired) from Best Buy in February, and it’s already completely useless. Not “glitchy.” Not “needs an update.” Straight up dead. It constantly goes offline, won’t stay connected, and now it can’t even hold a charge. So congratulations—I paid premium price for a security camera that literally cannot do the one thing it’s supposed to do: stay on. And of course, this all started happening right after my return/warranty window ended on March 11. Convenient. So now I’m stuck with a defective piece of tech and zero support. At this point, this isn’t a “smart home device”—it’s just an expensive decoration on my wall. I’ve had cheaper no-name cameras last longer than this. Save your money. Buy literally anything else. I wouldn’t trust this thing to monitor a rock.

Hi there, Bruce. Thank you for choosing Nest Cam (battery) for your home. We're glad to hear that you had an easy time with installing the device. Overall great product. Picture and image quality is good. Unfortunately, you cant use the Nest app with this camera. You will have to use the Google home app to use and monitor this camera. I prefer the Nest app for better and convenient daily user friendly capabilities. I like the idea of having a portable battery powered camera to place in random areas that you can view over Wi-Fi and on your cell phone. If I would have known that this camera didn't use the Nest app, I don't think I would have made the purchase. But again, a pretty decent camera and hopefully Google adds this camera to the Nest app. Other note: Larger than other Nest cameras due to internal battery.

I used to like my google nest camera's but they've gone downhill. Connections to my wifi had been super buggy and cant always connect to see the videos until way later. I get a notification saying person seen but i cant review it. The cost per year for the cloud recordings have doubled since ive joined and the quality of service and performance has gotten worst. The battery life seems to be worst than the older generations. I got this system because im renting a house and dont want to screw anything in and they have magnetic mounting as an option. I'll be switching to a better system when that changes.

I love the Google Nest cams they have good quality picture they pick up good sound and the microphone works pretty dang well all in all a wonderful product...except if you buy the two pack of cameras Google thought it was good idea to give you only one charger and one charging cable which is absolutely ridiculous!!... I bought six of these things with a floodlight cam combo for 1300 some odd dollars and I still have to buy three cables and three charging blocks Google this is really stupid!!

Hey there, OleOneTake! Thanks for investing high on Google Nest devices and we’re glad that you love the Nest cameras. We hear your concerns about camera multi-packs having one charging cable included. The inclusion of a single cable is intentional, as the cameras shouldn't usually need to be charged at the same time due to differences in usage, such as event frequency or scene the camera is observing, sensitivity and event duration settings, and more.

The ease of use with the magnet is good and allows me to move it around needed . I have it in fairly active locations so need to charge every few weeks when on battery. I do prefer the continual recording you get when plugged in, but the battery operation is convenient when a power source is not nearby.

The installation was done by the GeekSquad team. It required some time and effort to install in the beginning. It was connected to the google home app but can not connect to the nest app. One of the cameras was not transmitting images correctly, so I had to replace both, and this also did not solve the issue. I had to get a third-party repair person from BestBuy who came to fix the problem. The camera quality is good. I think battery consumption is, more especially in winter, so it will need charging at 3-4 weeks.

Love these. Been using them for a few months now so I’m able to give it a pretty fair assessment. The system is user friendly. You can set it so you can be alerted anytime someone passes by. Additionally, you can view footage anywhere. A con I would say is that unless you can a paid membership, you won’t be able to view footage from 12 hours ago. I think it’s useful to be able to do that.

    Google/Nest cameras (outdoor)

I have found these cameras to be somewhat flaky. Battery life varies considerably, according to usage - so anywhere from a few days to several weeks. It's a bit of a pain having to remove them each time to bring battery life back to 100%. Activity capture is not altogether reliable every time, and one of my two cameras has just died with 34% battery remaining. Google is replacing both cameras but I was unhappy to discover that the warranty on the replacement cameras will expire on the same date as the original pair, thus reducing the replacement warranty to just five months. Not particularly encouraging since one of the original cameras died after only seven months.

Hey there, Chris. We hear your concerns regarding the battery life, activity capture, and the warranty coverage for your Nest Cam (Battery).

Regarding the battery life, usage patterns do impact performance. Here's breakdown:
      Busy: About 1 month (25–30 events/day)
      Typical: About 2.5 months (13–16 events/day)
      Quiet: About 6 months (2–5 events/day)

To conserve battery, you can optimize video quality, shorten recording duration, or increase the time between recorded events. You can find more tips here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10901611

Purchase these after my home got broken into ever. Since nobody has even attempted to Google alerts me right away. If there's somebody unknown plus with the inboard facial recognition, it tells me anything. And everything I need to know about who's at my home. I have purchased several more since these. I now have 6 total Google cameras around my property and they work flawlessly. Battery life is great, but you can also add the third party. Solar charger and as long as it's mounted, it'll never die. It'll record continuously great value for the price, and you can't put a price on security.

Cameras are great. Easy, good images, plenty of options to customize, I like that I can choose to use the nest aware service for extended recordings etc. I use their whole Google system and various devices (floodlight cams, doorbells, hubs, hub max, mini). My only issue is getting consistent notifications to my Samsung galaxy watch, which is a major point of use for me. Also, recognize that privacy with Google itself continues to grow weaker; then again, nothing is really private once you are using the internet in any way.

Was excited with my initial purchase of this product, but learned just through my own experience that it has its limitations. Pro: It’s Wireless This was the number one selling point for me. This aspect though, draws minimally or greatly on the battery, depending on how you set up. It could last you months, or it could be drained in a week. When I purchased this, I saw the Nest name and had previously purchased Nest indoor cams that I am very pleased with so I didn’t hesitate to buy this wireless outdoor model. Well this is Nest by Google. No pairing into my existing Nest App. Had to download the Google Home App to operate it. The camera has very crisp video and great sound pick up. My live video does go black screen for a second and then picks back up about every minute or so. Night vision is not bad up close, but depth is not the greatest. One of the Cons on this totally wireless camera is that there are only the last three hours of recorded events available whereas if you use an actual power cord, it will evidently continue to record and store if you choose. The other Nest indoor cameras were a good model aside from the yearly subscription fees. This product to me just seems like more of a glorified trail cam that requires WiFi and constant recharging. Going to purchase an aftermarket power cord for it to see if I like the performance any better. Three stars is the best I can give it at this point.

    Good Battery Powered Cameras

The battery cameras were easy to install in brick walls and have good quality. I have multiple Google Home Hubs in various rooms and the Nest Hub Max in the kitchen. It's easy to ask Google to show me the cameras and see the one I want displayed on the hub. I was a little bugged the camera two pack only came with one charging cable. Why sell two cameras and only provide one cable? I had to charge one camera before I could charge the second. It mentions that only one cable is included on the box, but still dumb in my opinion. It wasn't a deal breaker, but the need to migrate my Nest account to Google was a negative for me. I liked the ability to look at my cameras on a web browser on a larger computer monitor. I also don't like that I have some cameras now that I can use on my Google Home app and cameras that I need to use the Nest app for unless I want to reset those and set them up again. One other issue I have is that I can't share my camera feeds with say my parents that like to watch my kids out in the yard since we don't live close. This process was easy to do with Nest. With Google, I can share my cameras, but I have to grant full access to my account to anyone I want to share with. The last thing I need is someone messing around with my settings because they now have full access. Please fix this by using what you already had working in the Nest App. I don't understand how Google's app didn't at least have all of the functionality of the Nest app before forcing us to move there. I don't hate the Google app and use it often with all of my compatible smart devices. However, I think the app could already be better since their Nest option had some of these features people like me want, but did not get moved over (at least yet). Negative comments aside, I do like the cameras and they serve their purpose. I currently have four of these cameras in place around my home. I purchased two, liked them, then bought two more while still on sale. After setting all four up two weeks ago, the average remaining battery life for the four is 70%.
