These can be charger and work fine but have more options for recording and historical playback if connected to power.

We’re aware that longtime Nest users like you enjoy viewing the camera videos using the Nest app or web app. Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app.
To optimize battery life, it offers event video history and will detect and capture important activity at your door, so you can focus on the details that need your attention. Our goal is to give users more choice. I installed one in the shed. The other two are covering the entry doors of our home. The battery powered cameras allow for flexibility as to where they can be installed. The battery life is very reliable.

It have to keep retrying multiple times which i am near an access point. It’l gets annoying after awhile. Just be aware.
