Box comes with everything needed for basic setup. Charging cable is on the short side in comparison to wired model. These are basically the former overpriced Nest IQ cameras newly rebranded. They're a good deal now at 1/4th of what they used to cost but heavily dependent on Google services. These WILL NOT work with the legacy Nest App and must be setup via the Google Home App; local home network MUST be online able to access Google servers — you cannot log on to them directly locally. These are essentially fully dependent on remote proprietary Google software and associated services so will likely become expensive paperweights (like Stadia Controllers) if Google ever suddenly feels like killing the 'Nest' service.

Hi MrPen, thanks for sharing your insights with us on Nest Cam (Battery). We're sorry to hear that the Google Nest ecosystem, including the Google Home app fell short of meeting your expectations.

Our goal for the launching of the new generation of Nest cameras is to make the Google Home app the one place where you can control all your favorite Nest devices and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. Here are some benefits you can get by using the Google Home app with your Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired):
      - Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
      - Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, ""Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup.
      - One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
      - Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.

If you´re willing to try, you may set up your older Nest cameras to the Google Home app. Here´s a guide that you can follow to set up your Nest cameras on the Google Home app: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532

You´re always welcome to contact our support team for any questions or support needs you may have here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

This is a HUGE upgrade from the last Camera system I installed at my house. Very easy to set up, Very easy to connect to my smart home, easy to install. I was worried about having a magnet only holding the camera in place but it makes it SOOOOO easy to adjust. I can view camera on nest hub or in google app on phone. It has a very clear picture, alerts me to anything near my home. I am hoping to get more soon

Hi rereillyii, thanks for giving us time to share this review with us about the Nest Cam (Battery). We’re sorry to hear that the battery use for wireless setup is a tough one for you.

Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can also extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. This link might be helpful: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10901611

      Here are some typical scenarios.
Busy: About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day)
Typical: About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day)
Quiet: About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)

If additional help is required, or if there’s anything we can help you with around the performance and features of your Nest camera, our support team is always ready to provide you with services and assistance here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

This camera is great. Easy to install, but the cable provided was SO SHORT! A longer one should be available. I had to spend another $40 for a proper plug, this the four stars. Also, this only works in the Google Home app. I wish it also worked in Nest app because I have two older cameras. Otherwise a great camera and great resolution. One other thing is when I go back through video, there is often gaps of when the video doesn’t record. I don’t know if it’s my internet or the camera. I wish it was continuous video though.

Hi there Gamingmouse, thanks for reaching out to us. We apologize for the short battery life you are experiencing with your Nest Cam (Battery). It's important to check factors such as activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select for your Nest camera. You can extend the battery life by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios for your Nest Cam (Battery):
Busy: About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day)
Typical: About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day)
Quiet: About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)

We also recommend checking the frequency of events that your Nest camera gets in a day. If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your device and understand what may be causing it. We'd be happy to help check the shorter battery life for your Nest Cam (Battery) by reaching out to our support team here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

UTTER GARBAGE DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!

UTTER GARBAGE! I have the entire house attached with google mini’s, the kitchen display, chrome, nest thermostats, and a nest doorbell. Needed to add a security camera into the mix, so I go to Best Buy and get this gem of a paperweight. Best Buy is awesome, they have NO fault in this, other than trusting Google like we do, to deliver a quality product. Their products are already overpriced IMO, but I like the Nest Aware and it’s a good looking product. Nest Aware holds your video for 60 days and there are a lot of neat AI things. I know by itself it only records THREE HOURS! Which is stupid because if someone breaks into your car at night…. 3 hours has gone and your overpriced camera is worthless. What the heck is the point of even having a camera then? So you got an event, but don’t know anything and google shares go up? I can’t stay up 24 hours a day waiting to see if something happens within that window!!!!! Am I just suppose tell the cops… LOOK THERE’S AN EVENT!!!! SEEE!!!! No big deal… have the Nest Aware, all’s good. Nest Aware holds 60 days worth of material. I know that it won’t record 24/7 because I’m not plugging it in, that’s kinda THE ENTIRE POINT behind the name “Nest Cam BATTERY!” (And that cable is sold separately and it’s cheap) They just want you to purchase the service. I get it…. Synced to Google Home, everything looks good. Climb the ladder, drill through the house, position it just right… Stand back in marvel at my work, and the quality of the video. The camera automatically syncs with Nest Aware. Get an event today, cool! I check no worries. I look back once I get home, and BOOM this event has expired. So I contact Google via chat and I’m told, not only can you not record more than 3 hours if it’s not plugged in (outdoor plug sold separately) it won’t connect to the Nest Aware account!!!!!! Why the heck did they create this piece of garbage???? 3 hours? For as much as it cost, I could hire someone to sit outside and sketch what’s happening. Thanks for disappointing us yet again google. I should have learned better honestly, MY FAULT. The Hello is SO slow that they deliver packages, get back in the truck and is probably back to their warehouse before it even notifies you. Again… Why???? And oh yeah… I conveniently trusted Google to make a good product, and placed it NO where close to where I can even wire the paper weight.

Hi Scott, we appreciate you for letting us know of your experience with the Nest Cam (Battery) and we’re sorry that it’s a disappointment for you.

Nest Cam battery is the first battery camera created at Google Nest which features full on device machine learning which can detect pets, vehicles, people, faces and packages all without any cloud processing, and unlike the previous versions of Nest cameras, all the new cameras come with free 3 hour event-based video history. Previously, event-based recording required cameras to stream video to the cloud continuously while active for event detection algorithms to process the video. With onboard machine learning detection and sensors, event-based recording will begin when the sensor detects activity, and you can receive camera alerts as long as you're signed into the app.

While the Nest Cam (battery) must be connected to a power source to have 24/7 video history, If your camera is battery powered, it should still have event video history which will be deleted on a rolling basis after a certain number of days depending on which Nest Aware subscription that you have. But if you’ve set your camera to record and save specific kinds of events in its video history, your camera will detect and process any important activity that it detects, and will only save footage of events that you’ve enabled to the cloud.

Also, you can choose to receive notifications for everything your camera detects, or choose notifications for only certain types of activity. If you’ve turned on critical alerts, you should receive some push notifications even when your phone is set to Do Not Disturb. You can create Activity Zones to cover areas in your camera’s view that you care about, and choose the type of motion you want to be notified of for each zone. You might have to move your camera, change your camera’s angle, or change something in the scene so that you don’t miss important activity. Here’s more information about notification settings you can change for your camera: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9210305

We care about your experience and are always here to help. If you need further assistance about the Nest Cam (Battery) and its features, don’t hesitate to visit us anytime here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

I already have 4 of the original google nest cams, so I went to try this one to see if the complaints were valid or just people angry with the new system. Well, some of the complaints are just people angry, a good number of them are actually valid. 1. The camera, when plugged in does have 24/7 history. Problem is the scrubbing function does not work so if someone sneaks into view and an event is not triggered, you will scrub right past it and never know. 2. You can't save clips outside of detected events. This is a huge no no and why google thought it was a good idea to release this without that function beats me. 3. While it does force you to use the google home app and I am used to the google home app, their layout of it and lack of instructions make it difficult for people that may not have the knowledge of googe home. I myself have not figured out how to save even clips either. 4. the lack of an actual length wire and having to buy one from the google store because it is not available instore is another huge no no. If i bought my cam, i would like to set it up the day i bought it, not wait a week for the 30 foot wire. Without the wire, the camera is a downgrade compared to the original cameras. Google says they are fixing the software issues but in its current state, I could not recommend this to fellow customers. It feels more like an incomplete product then a security home system.

Hi evaunit01berserk, we highly appreciate you sharing the details of your issues with using the Nest Cam (Battery). It’s unfortunate to learn that your experience with the new Nest Cam is less than ideal.

We’re aware that longtime Nest users enjoy viewing their Nest camera feeds from the Nest app and web app, however, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. We also understand that it could be challenging to use the Google Home app if you haven’t used it before. Here are some steps that may help you about the video history.

To access your camera’s video history:
      - Open the Home app Google Home app.
      - On the home screen, select your camera.
      - Near the bottom of the screen, tap History.
To use the Video history controls:
      - Slide your finger left or right on the timeline to scrub through your camera’s video history.
      - Tap Pause or Replay on the video window.
Learn more about the video history in the Home app here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10904254

The maximum clip length setting for your camera or doorbell will affect how long video clips can be. You can only download video clips from detected events in the video history. Follow the steps below to create and download a video clip:

      - Open the Home app.
      - Select your camera.
      - Tap History near the bottom of the screen.
      - Scroll to an event in your camera’s video history timeline. You can also tap Full history for a list of events.
      - Choose the event you want, then tap Event details.
      - Near the top of the screen, tap Download download nest app icon to save the video clip to your phone. From there, you can share the video clip via email or social media app.

We care about your experience and your feedback is important to us. If you need any help with your Nest Cam (Battery) and using it effectively in the Google Home app, please feel free to find us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Hi DC2SF, thanks for posting a review. We’re sorry to hear that you’re having battery issues with your Nest Cam (battery).

For the battery life, it will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios:
      - Busy - About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day)
      - Typical - About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day)
      - Quiet - About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)

If you’re willing to try, we recommend checking the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Cam (Battery). If the short battery life isn’t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your Nest Cam (Battery) and understand what may be causing it. We’re hoping that you’ll give us another chance to improve your experience. You may contact our support team for further assistance here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Quite impressed with overall ease and smoothness of the setup and installation. Previously purchased the wired version and had a requirement to add these in an area without direct power. Works easily with the strength of your WiFi. If it’s strong you can go further out. Add a solar charger and you’ll have everything you need. For complete setup and no need to take down to charge. I have had one installed for 3 weeks without a solar panel and it’s still at 70%.

I bought this camera as part of my google home setup. The camera has clear picture quality during the day usually but less clear in the evening. Additionally it only records in 30s increments unless it is plugged in. Furthermore, it does require a paid subscription to google at $6 a month or $60 a year if you want it to record anything beyond the last 3 hour time window. All in all a decent camera but there is likely other comparable products on the market that dont charge a monthly fee, this would likely involve having a dvr somewhere in your home instead.

I feel like Google Nest missed the mark on this product. I get the sense that Nest attempted to make the product easier to use and more versatile for placement by making it (chargeable) battery operated, which I understand. I owned, installed, and used the previous generation of wired outdoor Nest cam. The install was moderate to difficult for a weekend handyman like me, but in the end, it all worked out and looked amazing. But, my issues are: 1) I bought the 2 pack (2 cameras), yet there is only 1 short charging wire, with no wire or supplies to hardwire the camera for 24/7 footage. So, you have to purchase (from Google) additional outdoor wires that are long enough to install. 2) you’re asking why I would want to hardwire the camera, right? First, all reports reaffirm that battery life is short, especially in high traffic areas, so I don’t want to keep charging and worrying when the battery is low. Second, if you want full functionality of the camera, then it HAS TO BE hardwired. That was the biggest disappointment. Why would Google Nest offer a new product that can’t be fully setup from what is offered in the box. It feels like a money grab, and not a pleasant customer experience.
