Solid hardware, but...

The hardware itself is solid. Once the mounts are in place, the magnets make a TIGHT connnection. But a few problems: 1) You don't get 24/7 live feed unless you buy a $35 power cord. (You can turn it on any time that you like, but that drains the battery.) 2) It's very easy for you to take down (if you need a recharge), but that means that ANYONE can also take it down. You need to buy a $15 security system to keep it secure. 3) If you have other nest cameras, you'll have gotten used to the Nest App. Unfortunately, these do not work with the Nest App. You need to use the Google Home App. The Home App is OK, but the Nest App was better.

Other than the battery life, the camera is really nice. The video quality is great! Easy to connect with Google home. The magnet is surprisingly strong.

Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios:
- Busy - About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day)
- Typical - About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day)
- Quiet - About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)
If you´re willing to try, we recommend checking the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Cam (Battery). If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your Nest Cam (Battery) and understand what may be causing it. Devices work well but have drawbacks

FWIW, I've got them connected to my Google Home Wi-Fi mesh system. I had hoped the cameras would be able to view scenery in the distance, but the contrast between the nearby surroundings and distant scenery prevents that (with the distant objects mostly whited out). The motion detection and alerts work well. The batteries so far have lasted as advertised. The downsides to this solution: - The units are white and stick out like crazy - wish they made it in black. I've ordered a dark brown cover to see if that obscures one device I have mounted in a tree. - You have to use the Google Home app to view video...there's no technical reason Google can't open that up to view in the browser. That's a poor user experience and doesn't delight the customer.

However, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app, and to make the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant.
Also, the new Nest Cam is designed with a built-in rechargeable battery so that it's flexible to use with or without a wired power connection. It supports 2 major features that drive the size of the product: on-device computer vision with high performance and continuous video recording when plugged into power.

The installation was a nightmare because I chose to connect to power, and the technician would not go into my attic where the power was. He installed on battery power only. After having an electrician connect the cameras my attic, I finally got everything hooked up and working. I had to pay for it myself to be connected (128.00 per camera). The cameras work pretty well. The app is good also and of course requires a subscription. Overall I am pleased with my cameras, especially now that I won't have to charge the battery.

Not disappointed

Had been wanting one for my back yard. The video is very sharp and the notifications are quick. View angle is more than adequate. I'm not disappointed. I already had the nest aware subscription with my doorbell so being able to check video history may some day come in handy.

Performance is bad

Picture is clear. Battery is okay. This camera does not pick up everything. Even when wired directly and running on 24/7. I have literally walked in front of in bright mid-day sun light with no alerts. I checked the history and also no isolated alerts. I would've returned but return date expired. The battery doorbell is even worse. I should've bought the older models but held out for these. Now I regret not buying the older models.

Nest Cam (Battery) determines when something moves based on how much an image changes over a short period of time. So, your camera may not send an alert if the following is true:
- The activity is out of your camera’s field of view.
- An object is blocking the camera’s view.
- The camera is very far away from the activity.
- The lighting in the scene is dim or washed out.
We recommend moving your Nest Cam (Battery) by changing your camera’s angle, or change something in the scene so that you don’t miss important activity.
