I love these Google wirelees cams. So easy to set up and easy to use on the Google home app. Great picture quality, field of view and clarity. Microphone and listening capabilities are perfect. I now have 4 on the outside of my house and one wired cam inside.

Hi Mando, thanks for posting your feedback about Nest Cam (Battery), and we’re sorry to hear that your experience with its battery life is less than ideal.

Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. This link might be helpful: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10901611

      Here are some typical scenarios.
Busy: About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day)
Typical: About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day)
Quiet: About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)

If you still have to charge the battery more often than you’d like, consider connecting your camera to a power outlet with the included or optional power adapter. Connecting to continuous power will keep the battery charged. Please note that the power adapter included with the Nest Cam (battery) is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use and you can use a compatible weatherproof cable (sold separately).

I ended up getting the front porch ones wired and that was an extra cost to pay an electrician bc I live in an older house. Nice looking, But the battery life is not good.I think I’m going to sell and get a different camera system. I don’t like the fact that they are battery operated and The solar panels don’t really keep them charged in high traffic areas.

Hi there, MashaundaC. Sorry to hear you haven’t the best battery life on the Nest Cam (Battery). The lifespan of the battery will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and selected camera settings. On average here’s how long the battery will last on a single charge:

Busy - About 1 month battery life (about 25 - 30 recorded events per day)
Typical - About 2.5 months battery life (about 13 - 16 recorded events per day)
Quiet - About 6 months battery life (about 2 - 5 recorded events per day)

Here’s a few tips to conserve battery:
      1. Optimize its video quality.
      2. Shorten the length of time for which events are recorded.
      3. Take longer to begin recording between events.

Someone disappointed in the functionality of this camera. I now believe its may solely be software related to my concerns. The Home app doesn't appear to be as intuitive and function as well as I was expecting. I have every motion and detection setting enabled as possible, however my experience has been very lack luster. I currently have a ring doorbell installed at a further away location with less visibility than how I have this nest camera mounted. Yet the ring detects and notifies me of many, many more motion items such as vehicles and pedestrians, yet the nest camera, looking at the same location, with much broader field of view does not detect, alert, or record any motions that cross many times an hour, that which the ring easily detects and alerts me. Maybe my items is defective, or maybe it simply cannot set a detection of objects moving too fast, but it has plenty of field of view if I'm watching the camera setting to live, rather than letting it function idlily and notifying me. I like the device, its a google product, usually these are at a higher standard, but I want to blame the new transition away from nest software, and to home software. Will need some tweaking, and maybe its simply software related to my issues, but the camera simply does not detect motion unless i have a constantly live feed on. Which defeats the purpose being a battery/wireless camera, as a constant live feed will drain power at a much faster rate.

I think the quality of the video seems good. The app is ok. The only issue is that in the Google Home app you can not set alarm times. The Nest app did, but the new cameras do not work on the Nest app. I would like it to alert me during specific times of day/night when I know I am gone regularly instead of alerts always on or always off.

I like this camera. I am a professional in the security industry and find that it has a good return of investment. However the 2 drawbacks are if you want more than 3 hours of video archive, you have to pay a monthly subscription and if you don't want to have to recharge it every 4 weeks, you have to use the provided charging cable. Which defeats the idea of it being wireless.

Hi ScrewedinPHX, we're glad to hear you liked Nest Cam (Battery). We're sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with the battery and Nest Aware subscription.

We recommend getting the Nest Aware subscription, as it provides a lot of value for your money with features that include 30 days of Video History, 24/7 continuous recording, access to clips and time lapses and even customizing your own activity zones. You won't ever have to worry about missing any events as these videos and clips are all saved onto the Cloud. All these features can be viewed and controlled at the tip of your fingertip using the Google Home App.

The battery life for your Nest Cam (Battery), is affected by factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios:
Busy: About 1.5 months battery life (about 20-25 recorded events per day)
Typical: About 3 months battery life (about 9-12 recorded events per day)
Quiet: About 7 months battery life (about 2-4 recorded events per day)

It's important to check the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Cam (Battery). If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your device and understand what may be causing it. It’s a love hate relationship with Nest products. My home has Nest Thermostat, Protect smoke/carbon monoxide detectors and Nest wired and wireless cameras. Ever since being acquired by Google the products are glitchy and lesser in quality. Sometimes they will not connect or you’ll randomly get logged off and need to log into Google home again. These cameras do not use the Nest App. Instead you need a Google Home account. I run a half gig mesh network so I do not have Internet connectivity or speed issues. Since I have already invested so much in their products, it’s hard to start over and I just put up with their shortcomings. Definitely wait for their products to go on sale. They are not worth full price. The NestCam Outdoor has rechargeable batteries for flexible wireless mounting and operations. Depending on how often you view the camera or turns on due to motion, your battery life will vary. I get about a month on a charge. (Tip: use a portable battery pack to recharge so you don’t have to take the camera down) The better option is to keep the camera wired. Either with the included charging cable or a longer outdoor cable. This will ensure continuous power and allow live streaming. The basic free service only keeps 3 hours of history so it’s basically useless if you missed an alert or want to check what happened earlier. You’ll have to decide if it’s worth the premium for Nest Aware and the longer cloud history and continuous feed. These cameras do not produce good images. They’re actually pretty bad. Things are grainy and you won’t be able to make out a clock in the wall and most text. Low light makes the image even worst. The nighttime mode which you can set manually or automatically helps with dark settings. But it’s still grainy and the video is black and white. The problem is that Nest has to balance the free storage they provide and most homes Internet bandwidth so they must be purposely lowering the resolutions of the cameras. Camera technology is so inexpensive nowadays that you would expect razor sharp 1080p images where license plates are easily read. This is not the case with these Nest cameras. The performance is highly dependent on your internet speed, where you mount them, how much light is available and how far the objects are. Zooming in is even worst. At the end of the day you’ll have to balance price and convenience with performances. The Google Home interface kinda works. But I had to install and uninstall several times before I was able to add this camera. It really shouldn’t be this difficult. Buy with hesitation if you’re already in the Nest ecosystem and don’t want to start over. But there are probably better alternatives.
