Aesthetically: much bigger than wired counterparts & color options missing
Function: works well and has auto switching low and normal light, but no in-depth options like my other hub camera system, with regards to sensitivity, light indicator options, or with cheap generic cams from over 5 years ago that offer all those options with similar quality and selectable windows for motion and tons of other options so long as you use software that is the color of the sky and a part of your eye.
Dirty: You will not be able to record to external drives, and it is an impossible task right now to connect to Nest Hub for video calls. Recording is limited without subscription to Nest Aware.
I would not buy again
If you're remotely tech savvy, get an old PC and buy security cam software and 3rd party cams, which are better and not limited by design.

I switched from an older Arlo camera to this new Next Cam Battery and it really wasn't an upgrade. The nest cam itself is pretty huge, far bigger the my arlo, so you would think the battery life would be better. But it isn't. So far it is dropping about 1% a day, which while that sounds ok, the Arlo is so much better.
Then there are the notifications or lack of notifications I should say. With the Arlo I never missed anything it isn't field of view, the nest seems far, far less sensative and no amount of changing the settings has improved this.
The real kicker seeing how this is a google product is that is doesnt' stream to other google products. The Arlo would show on my google TV when I asked google to show it, but this Google Nest camera can't do that.
Overall this was not an upgrade from a 4-year-old Arlo camera. Arlo had better notifications, better battery and better integration with other google products.

Overall great security camera! I would definitely recommend getting the long power cable so you can hardwire it in though. Otherwise it goes into sleep mode to preserve battery and then is completely reliant on the motion sensor which is not always sensitive enough to pick up motion.

So far I'm happy .... replaced another brand cameras with this because I initially wanted to go with something wired. After looking at many, decided to try the Nest Battery Camera. Haven't had it long enough to comment on battery life. It is easy (and fast) to charge, and has great video quality. Especially easy to monitor from the Google Home app which I was already using for my Nest Thermostat.

Good quality however the battery lasts me a little over 2 months with the best quality and medium sensitivity. Hoped it would last a bit longer. I turned the quality to the lower setting but it didn’t help much. You have to use the google home app to view video but it can sometimes take long to load or view events. The Nest app was much better in this. Shame It doesn’t work there.

thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry for the poor battery life with your Nest Cam (Battery).
Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios: - Busy - About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day) - Typical - About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day) - Quiet - About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)
If you're willing to try, we recommend checking the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Cam (Battery). If the short battery life isn't related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your Nest Cam (Battery) and understand what may be causing it. I like these for the most part. Occasionally it doesn’t pick up continual movement so that is frustrating but the pictures are clear. Would like the ability to zoom in.

Hello there, TeresaM. We appreciate that you like the Nest Cam (battery). We hear your concerns about its recording feature along with having the ability to zoom in.
Event detection depends on the camera settings that you select. You can choose which events your camera or doorbell can detect and record (people, motion, package, etc.). From there, you (and each member of your home) can decide which of those events to get notifications for. If an event is turned off, you won’t get notifications for that kind of activity. You can also change the settings like adjusting video quality, wake-up sensitivity, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas.
Also, you can zoom in and out of your camera’s video to temporarily take a closer look at part of the scene. Here’s how: - Open the Home app. - Tap and hold your device's tile. - In your camera’s Live or History view, you can: Spread or pinch two fingers to zoom in or out. Double tap to zoom in. Do it again to zoom in further. Drag one finger to pan around.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, aees. We get that moving from the Nest app to the Google Home app might take a little getting used to, but we want to make it as easy as possible. The Google Home app lets you connect and control all sorts of devices, like speakers, cameras, thermostats, and lights, all in one place.

Simple to use, but the battery doesn’t last long in high traffic areas where the camera is constantly recording. When there isn’t a lot of activity, the battery will last a month. At busy times, I’d say a week or two will be the most you’ll get out of the battery life.

This was an open box item. Best Buy's assessment was "excellent" though. While the camera works, the QR code was missing and the adapter for charging the phone does not work. I wouldn't call the item "excellent."

The original nest camera has better quality video however this new nest/google is wireless therefore much easier to install. I opted to buy and install with a solar charger to avoid the recharging, so far that has kept the camera at full charge.

Misses way too much action

Super disappointed in the performance of this camera. The video quality is great, when it actually captures video. I have this mounted above the garage door to watch our driveway, I would say that it picks up about 70% of the actual movement that goes by the camera. Many times we have come home and completely misses the car pulling in the garage. When it does capture an event, it misses the first half of the action almost every time. I have all the settings to max out the amount of video over battery. Just can't count on it capturing everything like our Nest doorbell. That doorbell performs like I hoped this would. Would NOT get this again if I had the choice.

Hi Justin, thanks for sharing your feedback with our support team. We're sorry to hear about your disappointment with the camera performance for Nest Cam (Battery).
Motion detection on Nest Cam (Battery) can be affected by changes in the light level, and shadows moving across the frame like when a cloud moves in front of the sun. This also includes other movements within the camera's field of view like trees or bushes swaying. If you're not getting any alerts or notifications, we recommend trying out the steps below: 1. Change the Activity Zones on your camera. You can delete your existing Activity Zone and create a new one in any area within your camera's field of view. Just make sure that none of the zones you create overlap. 2. Change the angle of your camera and account for the lighting in the surrounding area. 3. Restart your Camera.
We'd like to help you troubleshoot the motion detection issue further with your Nest Cam (Battery). If you´re willing to try, please contact our support team so we can provide further assistance using this link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

I really love Google cameras. It's easy to install and the charge lasts a really long time. Besides the app, I can even monitor and watch the cameras through a browser online wherever I am with an internet connection! This is fantastic. I installed it myself, so it is battery powered and I need to occasionally charge it. I plan on buying more cameras and having them professionally installed so that they are wired and don't need to be brought in for charging.

Quality better than expected and battery life pretty good, quality not as good as the old nest cam IQs but the install and use is really easy, wish there was a way to hide the power cable, right now it’s exposed so could be cut, but also it’s battery operated so won’t cut the feed. The magnet is ridiculously strong though so it works pretty well and easy to adjust. New price point is good though
