    Not disappointed

The camera was discounted to $120 so I jumped on it. Had been wanting one for my back yard. The video is very sharp and the notifications are quick. View angle is more than adequate. I'm not disappointed. I already had the nest aware subscription with my doorbell so being able to check video history may some day come in handy.

    Solid hardware, but...

These cameras have the Nest name, but the issue is that they are transitioning to the Google brand. The hardware itself is solid. Once the mounts are in place, the magnets make a TIGHT connnection. But a few problems: 1) You don't get 24/7 live feed unless you buy a $35 power cord. (You can turn it on any time that you like, but that drains the battery.) 2) It's very easy for you to take down (if you need a recharge), but that means that ANYONE can also take it down. You need to buy a $15 security system to keep it secure. 3) If you have other nest cameras, you'll have gotten used to the Nest App. Unfortunately, these do not work with the Nest App. You need to use the Google Home App. The Home App is OK, but the Nest App was better.

Hi Phil, thanks for posting your review. We're sorry to hear that your experience with your Nest Cam (battery) and using the Home app didn't meet your expectations when compared to using the previous app. We understand your concern about the device being very easy to take down and know that your feedback on this matter will be relayed to the right team for future improvements. Our priority with this launch was to create an integrated experience with other Google Nest products and to make the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your Nest and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. If you need any assistance with your Nest Cam and how to navigate through the Home app, please don't hesitate to contact us on our Google Help page here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Devices work well but have drawbacks

I've been using for about a few weeks now and so far they work well. FWIW, I've got them connected to my Google Home Wi-Fi mesh system. I had hoped the cameras would be able to view scenery in the distance, but the contrast between the nearby surroundings and distant scenery prevents that (with the distant objects mostly whited out). The motion detection and alerts work well. The batteries so far have lasted as advertised. The downsides to this solution: - The units are white and stick out like crazy - wish they made it in black. I've ordered a dark brown cover to see if that obscures one device I have mounted in a tree. - You have to use the Google Home app to view video...there's no technical reason Google can't open that up to view in the browser. That's a poor user experience and doesn't delight the customer.

Hi TSF1, thanks for the feedback you provided, and we’re glad that the Nest Cam (battery) works well for you. We understand that longtime Nest users enjoy viewing their Nest camera feeds from the Nest app or web app (browser). However, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app, and to make the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant.

Also, the new Nest Cam is designed with a built-in rechargeable battery so that it's flexible to use with or without a wired power connection. It supports 2 major features that drive the size of the product: on-device computer vision with high performance and continuous video recording when plugged into power.

Having different color options is a great idea. Feedback like this helps us identify what areas we need to work on, and we’ll share this with the right team for future improvements. And if ever help is needed, we have services and assistance available for your support needs here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Hi TiffanyB, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re glad to hear that you like the Nest Cam (Battery), and we do apologize if you’re having issues with its battery.

Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios:
      - Busy - About 1.5 months battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day)
      - Typical - About 3 months battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day)
      - Quiet - About 7 months battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)

If you´re willing to try, we recommend checking the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Cam (Battery). If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your Nest Cam (Battery) and understand what may be causing it. Hey there, Miko. We hear your concerns regarding battery life and notifications on the Nest Cam (Battery). Here are some solutions to make sure your device is running smoothly:

On average here’s how long the battery will last on a single charge:
Busy - About 1 month battery life (about 25 - 30 recorded events per day)
Typical - About 2.5 months battery life (about 13 - 16 recorded events per day)
Quiet - About 6 months battery life (about 2 - 5 recorded events per day)

Here are a few tips to conserve battery:
      1. Optimize its video quality.
      2. Shorten the length of time for which events are recorded.
      3. Take longer to begin recording between events.

Check this article for battery saving tips: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10901611

      To adjust notifications:
      1. Change the wake-up sensitivity.
      2. Turn on Motion events.
      3. Use Activity Zones.

Picked up 4 of these cameras. I used an already installed magnetic base so installation was simple. Connecting my ipad to the cameras was also simple. Battery life has been great. They’ve been operating for about a month and they all show as still full. So far just perfect. The picture is exceptionally clear when I check-in online from out of country. I’d say these cameras were a great choice thus far.

I am super disappointed in the battery life. I am pushing to get 4 weeks but most times it doesn’t last. Reviews say average battery last 6 weeks up to 3 months. In my opinion that is totally bogus unless you want a worthless camera that is in such low quality it couldn’t discern any valuable features if needed. I am shocked they no longer offer the outdoor wires option. Google obviously isn’t proud of their battery as you can barely find any discussion on their site.
