Performance is bad
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I honestly can't believe Google played these cameras. Picture is clear. Battery is okay. This camera does not pick up everything. Even when wired directly and running on 24/7. I have literally walked in front of in bright mid-day sun light with no alerts. I checked the history and also no isolated alerts. I would've returned but return date expired. The battery doorbell is even worse. I should've bought the older models but held out for these. Now I regret not buying the older models.

Posted .Hi CaptainN, thanks for letting us know about the issue. We apologize for the disappointing experience you´re having with the notifications and alerts for Nest Cam (Battery).
Nest Cam (Battery) determines when something moves based on how much an image changes over a short period of time. So, your camera may not send an alert if the following is true:
- The activity is out of your camera’s field of view.
- An object is blocking the camera’s view.
- The camera is very far away from the activity.
- The lighting in the scene is dim or washed out.
We recommend moving your Nest Cam (Battery) by changing your camera’s angle, or change something in the scene so that you don’t miss important activity.
If you still encounter the same issue, please consider contacting our support team for further help on the issue here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

outside cam not capable of operation in the cold!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me share some background - I am a complete Google-verse person - Android device, Google Nest doorbell, thermostat and 5 cameras around the house, etc. I have been waiting for this camera to be available as I needed an Outside Camera to monitor my driveway. I knew well ahead of time that installing this camera would not tie into the Nest app (like the rest of my cameras) and I'd have to use it via Google Home app - but a black friday deal made me go for it - fully acknowledging I'd have two places to view my security cameras. I brought it home - had no issues - it installed easily and I was able to manipulate the camera without issue. Since its mounted outside, I had the 10m weatherproof power cable so I can keep it live 100% of the time. That was Saturday. Today is Monday, I live in the Chicago area....this camera is mounted outside. Woke up this morning - camera is disconnected. (WHAT?!) I went into the settings and the camera battery status is 0% with the message that the camera is disabled due to battery. Last night was a typical autumn night - low of about 25 degrees fahrenheit. I double checked the power outlet (working fine - other things are plugged into it, without issue). Now, I'm perplexed. Being a Googleverse person - I called Google support - was assisted by a very kind agent named Carol. Thru troubleshooting, we found that the battery has discharged due to the temperature being so low - 20 degrees. I pointed out the obvious - this is an outside camera, and 20 degrees is pretty mild compared to whats coming up in the next months here in Chicago. I suggested to her that this camera is faulty - and perhaps I need to have it replaced? She put me on hold - spoke to her supervisor - and gave me the resolution - I need to take the camera down, bring it inside, and recharge it. I was blown away! No way am I going to buy an outdoor camera and periodically (any time it gets cold) bring it inside to charge. Google provided no other recommendations. This camera is going back to the store and I am going to find an older Nest Outdoor camera to install. I have one other Nest Outdoor camera and its survived two harsh winters here - but to sell something as an outdoor camera and not have it be tolerant of cold weather is unacceptable to me. I hope Google gets their act in order - I understand the limitation of the app integration - but quality wise, this is sub-par at best.

Nest continues to disappoint
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am not impressed with these cameras, and very annoyed that my older cams work better on the Nest app and these newer cameras only work on the Google Home app. I don't care which app I use, but at least make one app fully functional with all generations of cameras. I mean isn't Google supposed to be better than that? As for the cameras themselves, they constantly disconnect and reconnect, freeze, or are unavailable. I have a very expensive and powerful mesh gaming router with extenders, a high-end modem, and 1000Gps internet. There is no reason they should have such a poor signal. Lastly, the batteries are a joke even with light traffic. They claim a couple of months, I barely get a week out of them which forced me to buy and run a cable where I didn't want to. I have 11 nest devices in my home including cams, doorbell cams, thermostats, and door locks, and I have been unimpressed with all of them. If I wasn't so deep into Nest I would not have purchased these cams. But I am, so I did, and I continue to be disappointed. Only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 is because they are much cheaper than their predecessors. I do not recommend!

Good Camera
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Quality camera. The battery last quite long and you can purchase a plug or solar power panel to keep it charged. I don’t care for the Home app. I prefer the older Nest platform.

Posted .Hi ChiefScottyB, thanks for sharing your review. We can see that your experience with your Nest Cam (battery) has been less than ideal when it comes to the app you use for the device. We understand your concern in having to check two different apps instead of just one. You may set up your older Nest cameras to the Google Home app so you can consolidate all your cameras to one app. For instructions, you may check out this help article: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9293657

Buy a plug.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice camera. If you have Nest aware, it will only save 24/7 if it is connected to power supply. Unless it is set up within a couple of feet of an outlet, you'll need to buy the 5 or 10 meter extension as the connector is proprietary.

Posted .Hi LTM1, we really appreciate your feedback on Nest Cam (battery) and Nest Aware. Our goal is to give users like you more choice. With event video history, we wanted our products to help our customers understand what’s going on at home easily and showcase the important activity for you. We still offer 24/7 video history on wired Nest Cams with a Nest Aware Plus subscription, for users who want to see everything that happens at home. And we continue to invest in the use of both technologies. Also, You can connect your camera to a power outlet with the included charging cable for continuous power and to keep the battery charged. Please note that the power adapter included with the Nest Cam (battery) is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use, and that’s when you can use a compatible weatherproof cable (sold separately).

Posted .Hey there, JFred. We’re glad you’re enjoying the Nest Cam (Battery). That being said, we hear your concern with having to clean the connector. Over time, your outdoor camera may collect dust, pollen, water spots, and other debris. Here’s how to clean it properly:
1. Unplug your camera from the power outlet.
2. Moisten a soft cloth with water and a little dish soap.
3. Hold your camera steady and gently wipe its surface clean with a cloth. Keep soap off the lens.
4. Rinse the cloth and wipe down the surfaces again to remove any remaining soap.
5. Plug your camera back in.

Posted .Hi Rayados, thanks for leaving feedback to let us know of your concerns with the Nest Cam (battery). We understand that having to charge the battery oftentimes can be an inconvenience. You can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. That way, you don’t have to charge it more often than you should. You may also consider connecting your camera to a power outlet with the included or optional power adapter for continuous power and to keep the battery charged. Please note that the power adapter included with the Nest Cam (battery) is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use, and that’s when you can use a compatible weatherproof cable (sold separately).
