Good camera but not for nighttime

This works during the day, but unfortunately does not work at night because the night vision camera light reflects against the window glass so all we get is a circle reflecting back at us. It isn’t appropriate to put outside as an alternative so it wasn’t the best choice for us. But it seems to work good for the daytime use. We also like that it’s portable so it can be moved to different locations (as long as there’s an outlet nearby).

We do not recommend Nest Cam Indoor to be used outdoors. Doing so may cause performance issues, lead to damage and void your warranty. However, you may use Nest cameras designed for outdoor use inside your home, although it isn’t recommended. Nest cameras use high-power infrared (IR) LEDs to illuminate the scene. But, most Night Vision specific issues are caused by your camera’s infrared light that reflects off a surface near your camera, like a shelf, window, window screen, or wall. The picture is good quality (gets a little blurry with distance or if you zoom in but clear enough to see everything you need). We initially bought it to be able to "spy" on our kids during summer break but this camera has so much more to it that that! We now use it to watch the dog too and when he's about to get himself in trouble we just give him a loud "aaaah" through the microphone from work and he looks around startled and goes to lay down lol. I highly recommend it!

The data is maintained by Nest and it's no way to maintain data by own NAS and network. The zoom picture is not clear as it supposed to be especially for $200.00 camera
