The nighttime resolution leave some to be desired. Also recording of events requires a premium subscription, be aware. This is an older product which is scheduled for upgrade this year according to rumor. I had the need arise before that date. The IQ version was not available. I would look at ARLO 4 as an alternative

Nest cameras use high-power infrared (IR) LEDs to illuminate the scene. Night Vision video quality can be affected by internet speed and other issues. But, most Night Vision specific issues are caused by your camera’s infrared light that reflects off a surface near your camera, like a shelf, window, window screen, or wall.
As for the recording of events, Nest Aware is a paid subscription service you can use with your Nest products to help keep you informed about important events at your home. With the Nest Aware subscription, you can create your own custom zones to cover the areas you want to be notified about. Activity Zones can have your camera send alerts and mark your video history timeline when there's important motion in the zone. Setup was straightforward and easy. The video quality is very good, but does get a little grainy when zoomed in. The night vision of this camera is awesome, if that's important to you. The camera and base seem to be really good quality, with the base being metal. I has a microphone and speaker, so listening and talking through the camera are possible. Both are more sensitive than I expected. The Nest app is fine, have had zero problems with it so far. There is a bit of lag time on the video, but it's only a couple of seconds and is not unlike any of these systems. I initially decided to go with the Samsung camera and onboard recording with a micro sd card, but then I read a review that mentioned if the camera is stolen, there goes any recordings as well. Opted to go with the Nest instead, happy I did. My fiance is even happy with it, that says a lot! She can navigate the Nest app with ease and likes that she can check in on the dog throughout the day. All-in-all an excellent system that I'm happy with.
