The camera itself also looks high-end and not out of place no matter where you put it. The Home app however is the worst piece of software Google has ever created. Video history is "missing" half the time, motion detection is extremely hit or miss, and scrubbing through the events is painful. I don't know what happened because all these things worked great on the older generation of Nest cameras. Until Google fixes the Home app I recommend you look elsewhere.

Our priority with the recent launch was to build a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. We wanted to create an integrated experience with other Google Nest speakers and displays. Here are some other benefits you can get by using the Google Home app with your Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired):
- Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
- Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, "Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup.
- One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
- Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.
- If you´re willing to try, you may set up your Nest cameras to the Google Home app. Here´s a guide that you can follow: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532
Video recording is mostly triggered by the motion detection of your Nest camera, which can be also affected by changes in the light level, and shadows moving across the frame like when a cloud moves in front of the sun. This also includes other movements within the camera's field of view like trees or bushes swaying. If you're not getting any alerts or notifications, we recommend trying out the steps below:
1. Change the Activity Zones on your camera. You can delete your existing Activity Zone and create a new one in any area within your camera's field of view. Just make sure that none of the zones you create overlap.
2. Change the angle of your camera and account for the lighting in the surrounding area.
3. Restart your Camera.

This thing is very well made and much sturdier and heavier than the images suggest. Plus, you cannot beat the subscription value, esp. if you have all Nest cams.

The old app you can much more easily scroll through your sight line time lapse. At least the hardware is cheaper.

We understand that longtime Nest users enjoy viewing their Nest camera feeds from the Nest app, however, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. Our teams are working on enabling the ability to set up and control older Nest cameras in the Home app so users will have one app to control all of their devices, and we’re working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app as we want to create an integrated experience with other Nest and smart home devices.
Meanwhile, we suggest having the latest version of the Google Home app that may improve camera playback controls to make it easier to play, pause, and navigate between events from the camera history view in the Google Home app.

The google home app works with iPhone and Samsung. I have not tried other brands to compare. The picture in light is clear. I zoom by pinching the screen. Get notifications that a person is there. Wireless is not a problem.

The Google Home app AI does well to recognize faces and animals. The field of view is surprisingly wide. The audio is crystal clear. You get more than what you pay for.

Support claimed it was overheating, but it's in a north-facing Window that never gets sun at any time during the day. It's indoors at 69F and 45% humidity. Replaced the camera and same issue with the new unit. Never had this problem with other products used in the same location. Will return it and try something else.

if your camera or doorbell’s video looks bad, but it has a good Wi-Fi connectionand is not exposed to direct sunlight, this can happen if your camera gets too hot or too cold, and can be avoided by these:
- Avoid placing your camera near objects that can cause overheating like light bulbs, lamps, large equipment/appliances, air vents, etc. Your camera needs good air circulation. Never install it in any kind of small box or enclosure as this can cause overheating.
- Your doorbell/camera's video might also have a pink, blue or purple hue if there's a problem with the Night vision. You can check this link to learn more about the night vision video quality: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9259738

It was nice have the peace of mind. Then I needed to hire a dog sitter. Having the camera let me keep an eye on the dogs and how they were being taken care of! Great view. Great clarity. Hooks up to google home with an ease.

The only thing to make this cam better is for Google to fully integrate the older cams to work on the Google Home app rather than the Nest app so that all cams can be in one place. This cam cannot be setup or monitored using the Nest app.

Swing and a Miss!

You cannot use the "Nest" android app with this camera, so if you're like me with a Nest wired doorbell and outdoor nest cameras, you can't have them all in one app. This camera requires you to use the Google "Home" app, which is garbage in my opinion. Doesn't have nearly close to the same usability as the Nest app does. Also, you can no longer have multiple cameras on different Wifi networks on the same Aware account.

Also, there's no fee to stream full resolution live video and receive basic notifications, as long as your doorbell is connected to the internet. However, you’ll need a Nest Aware subscription to record video and receive advanced notifications. Our goal is to give users more options. With event video history, we wanted our products to help our customers understand what’s going on at home easily and highlight the important activity for you. For people who want to see everything that happens at home, we offer 24/7 video history on wired Nest Cams with a Nest Aware Plus subscription. We continue to invest in the use of both technologies
Event detection and notifications depend on the doorbell settings that you select. You can choose which events your doorbell can detect and record (people, motion, package, etc.). From there, you (and each member of your home) can decide which of those events to get notifications for. If an event is turned off, you won’t get notifications for that kind of activity. You can also change the settings like adjusting video quality, wake-up sensitivity, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas.
