Great hardware plague by terrible software

The camera hardware is amazing, picture is very sharp even in night vision, microphone picks up even the faintest sounds. The camera itself also looks high-end and not out of place no matter where you put it. The Home app however is the worst piece of software Google has ever created. Video history is "missing" half the time, motion detection is extremely hit or miss, and scrubbing through the events is painful. I don't know what happened because all these things worked great on the older generation of Nest cameras. Until Google fixes the Home app I recommend you look elsewhere.

Hi there ChuckTesta, thanks for trying out the new Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired). We apologize for the negative experience you are having with the Google Home app.

Our priority with the recent launch was to build a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. We wanted to create an integrated experience with other Google Nest speakers and displays. Here are some other benefits you can get by using the Google Home app with your Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired):
      - Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
      - Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, "Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup.
      - One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
      - Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.
      - If you´re willing to try, you may set up your Nest cameras to the Google Home app. Here´s a guide that you can follow: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532

Video recording is mostly triggered by the motion detection of your Nest camera, which can be also affected by changes in the light level, and shadows moving across the frame like when a cloud moves in front of the sun. This also includes other movements within the camera's field of view like trees or bushes swaying. If you're not getting any alerts or notifications, we recommend trying out the steps below:
      1. Change the Activity Zones on your camera. You can delete your existing Activity Zone and create a new one in any area within your camera's field of view. Just make sure that none of the zones you create overlap.
      2. Change the angle of your camera and account for the lighting in the surrounding area.
      3. Restart your Camera.

Picture is great, face detection is really cool! This thing is very well made and much sturdier and heavier than the images suggest. Plus, you cannot beat the subscription value, esp. if you have all Nest cams.

Great Cam and nice new design! I have it a five star but just know these won’t work with nest app it will have to be the google home app. I got used to nest app and don’t like the google Home app. I’m sure they will make it better in time but is what it is for now

We wanted to make the Google Home app as the one place where you can control all your favorite Nest devices and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. Here are some benefits you can get by using the Google Home app with your Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired):
      - Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.

The camera is easy to set up and works fantastically to catch and record moments of interest. The Google Home app AI does well to recognize faces and animals. The field of view is surprisingly wide. The audio is crystal clear. You get more than what you pay for.

    Great Nest Upgrade

I had been using the 1st generation nest indoor camera in my home for a few years, and decided it was time to upgrade to the newer generation to see if it was worth it. As others have stated, this does not work with the Nest app, it is setup and accessed through the google home app. Not a huge deal, just takes some time to adjust, but the integration is easy as I still have a nest doorbell and thermostat. The video quality is a night and day difference. It’s not 4K, but at the price point, it’s a good purchase. I like that there’s different color options as well to blend with your decor. Overall, happy with the upgrade.

Hey there, Iggy! Thanks for your review about the Nest Cam (indoor, wired)! We're glad you find the clarity and night vision impressive. We understand your preference for local storage via SD card. We appreciate your feedback and can certainly share it with the product team for future product considerations.

In the meantime, with cloud storage, your footage is securely stored off-site, accessible from any device with an internet connection. You don't have to worry about managing SD cards or running out of space. Which also ensures automatic backups, preventing data loss due to damaged SD cards or camera malfunctions.

    Reliable Surveillance with Smart Features

I recently had the opportunity to experience the Google Nest Cam (Wired) in Snow, and it certainly stands out as a dependable home surveillance solution with some impressive smart functionalities. Here's a breakdown of my thoughts: Pros: Reliability: The Nest Cam's reliability is its strong suit. It delivers consistent, high-quality video, providing a clear view of the surroundings. The 1080p HD resolution captures details effectively, making it easy to discern faces and other critical features within the frame. Smart Features: The integration of smart features is impressive. The ability to set activity zones and receive specific alerts based on these zones is incredibly useful. Additionally, the two-way audio feature works well for communication and surveillance purposes. Ease of Use: Setting up the Nest Cam was straightforward. The user interface is intuitive, and the app is user-friendly, allowing for easy navigation and control. Monitoring and adjusting settings can be done from anywhere, offering peace of mind even when away from home. Compatibility: It seamlessly integrates with other Google Nest products and smart home devices. The wider Nest ecosystem allows for a more connected and streamlined home surveillance experience. Cons: Subscription for Full Features: While the basic functionalities are quite impressive, to unlock the full potential of the Nest Cam, a subscription for the Nest Aware service is required. This might be an additional cost that some users may not initially anticipate. In summary, the Google Nest Cam (Wired) in Snow offers excellent reliability, smart features, and ease of use, making it a strong contender in the home surveillance market. It provides peace of mind for homeowners looking to keep an eye on their property. However, the necessity of a subscription for advanced features could be a drawback for some potential users. Overall, I rate it 4 out of 5 stars for its consistent performance and smart capabilities, though the subscription requirement is a point to consider.

I got this to cover my covered in patio, good choice so far, wanted something cheaper than the outside camera as was not really needed. Moved home with a covered patio, we will see how it fares outside. Does what I want to monitor my patio door and see when the dog eants to come back inside. Good animal detction would work well in side also but dont need that.

I purchased this camera for indoor security, mounted high on a beige-colored wall looking down into a 2 story foyer. The detail and zoom are excellent, and controlling the camera through Google Home works quite well. I’d highly recommend!

so i got two of these new nest cam wired versions, i'm gonna be clear and say that for the price its OK, i do miss the older models that had a better megapixel then these and the images looked better on those when you zoomed in for a close up of a person, but these are not that bad for indoor use but inside of my basement where i have 16 very bright led

Works great, wide angle is nice. The price is even better. Google Home app is so much nicer than the Nest app, I’m glad they’re migrating over. People complaining that it didn’t work in the Nest app aren’t paying much attention to what they’re purchasing. They’re bringing all their products under one app, not sure how that’s a bad thing.

Camera has a wide view and has decent quality video. Night vision works ok. Talking through the camera works very well conpared to other cameras I have tried. Only two things stop this from being a five star product. 1. It has a facial recognition which is cool but when activated it constantly notifies your phone of someones presence even if you set it to recognize you. I figured the point was to alert you of strangers in your house but I guess not. 2. When zooming in, especially while night vision is activated, the video quality drops the more zoomed in you are.

Hi Nicholas, thanks for sharing your insights. We´re sorry to hear that you are experiencing too many notifications for Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired), and that the quality drops when zooming with the night vision feature.

We recommend combining the faces that were identified as different people. Here's how:
      - Open the Google Home app.
      - Tap Settings > And then Nest Aware And then Familiar face detection.
      - Start edit mode (two different ways):
      a. At the top right corner of the screen, tap Edit. Then, select the faces you want to merge.
      b. To select the first face in edit mode, touch and hold a face on the screen. Then, tap the other face you want to merge. Both faces are selected when you do this.
      - At the top right corner of the screen, tap Merge.

Night vision range depends on how much light there is, and which camera or doorbell you have. Test your camera’s recorded or live video when it’s dark out and adjust its position, or add lighting if needed.
