||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pretty good, but I miss the previous Nest cameras that worked with the Nest app. You can really see the design choices that are influenced by Google's product strategy than when Nest was it's own company. This camera doesn't has sacrificed quality in build and features for a cheaper device that can be more mass spread. It also makes you use the Google Home app which doesn't have as much function as the previous Nest app. I do like the smaller form factor and the easy mounting capability.

Our goal was to make the Google Home app the one place where you can control all your favorite Google Nest devices and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. Here are some benefits you can get by using the Google Home app with your Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired):
- Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
- Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, "Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup.
- One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
- Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.

The new Nest Cam (indoor, wired) is exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience. Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app. Users with older cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Cams. Our team is working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app so all of your cameras can be set up and controlled in one place.

Wouldn’t buy if I were you

The Picture quality is terrible! We are returning it for the old indoor camera which I would recommend that or switch to ring.

Setup was fast and simple, the video quality is great and integration with my Home routines is perfect.

If you have more than one camera that can use familiar face detection, here’s how they work:
- You need to turn familiar face detection on or off for each camera individually.
- If you turn off familiar face detection for one of your cameras, it can only send you person alerts. You should continue to get unfamiliar face alerts from any other cameras that have familiar face detection turned on.
- All your cameras in the same home share the same familiar face library. If you add a new camera to the same home, it uses the same familiar face library as the other cameras in your home, so you don’t have to teach it as much.
- If some cameras have a 1st gen Nest Aware subscription but others don’t, you can only use familiar face detection for the cameras with a subscription.
