Not as easy at it seems with multiple units

Posted .Hello Abmo, thanks for leaving feedback about the Nest Cam (indoor, wired), and it’s unfortunate to hear of your issues with the image quality, and with viewing live video.
A range issue or wireless interference can affect the performance of your doorbell. Sometimes it may pass the connection test during setup, but will struggle to stay connected if it’s just a bit too far away. If you're experiencing a spotty connection or weak signal, we recommend checking your Wi-Fi network to see if your bandwidth is congested. Which may happen if you have too many devices connected on the same bandwidth or if your network package is not enough to handle the data traffic on the network. If your doorbell is mounted too far from your Wi-Fi router, you may need to extend your Wi-Fi network’s range using an extender, boosters or additional Wi-Fi access points.
Here are some steps that may also help:
- Plug your Nest camera into a different power outlet to rule out power issues.
- Turn off other devices connected to your WiFi to see if this is about network traffic.
- You can also try restarting your router to reset your internet connection. You should also restart any Wi-Fi range extenders or repeaters that you have.

Not great as previous Nest Cams

I have previous Nest cams and the software was awesome, I'm not sure why google didn't expand on that software and made it better. They created their own which is terrible. This new cams use google and it doesn't even give you an option to look at your cameras through your laptop or desktop.

A little better than blink?

A customer really wanted to try the Nest cameras, so we picked up ten cameras of a few models and gave it a shot. The take always are not good. I cannot recommend these cameras to anyone. - it’s at best just one quarter the resolution you can find in similarly priced 4K cameras. - the clarity does not live up to the expectation or the hype -the cameras have comparably limited features. The frame can only be rotated 180 degrees, there is no option for 90 degrees, every professional camera system I work with has those options, and many more. - the 134 degree lens would be useful if it had higher resolution, but that’s just too wide a field of view for a decent picture at 1080p. - the camera housing articulation does not give you the same flexibility that a proper 4K camera would give you. Inevitably you will have a few wonky pictures if doing 5 or more cams. - loading the cameras into the google home app is exceptionally time consuming, with literally dozens of unnecessary prompts. If your phone and the camera are not connected to the same access point at the same time, the cameras will not connect. So you must be physically next to the camera to pull them into google home. - google did not improve their 2nd generation product, meaning that the 2nd gen cameras have lower performance specs than their predecessors. -huge bandwidth problems. 10 cameras can chew up to 50Mbps of upload, which nobody without fiber service can achieve. -the Internet service providers get twitchy when you’re pulling that kind of upload bandwidth 24/7. If they have the ability to throttle you, they eventually will. All in all this appears to be the folly of a search engine trying to be a surveillance manufacturer, when there are existing surveillance manufacturers in the market who are simply better at what they do.

Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired) comes with a 2-megapixel color sensor, with support for HDR and a resolution of up to 1080p (1920 x 1080) at 30 frames/sec. However, if you see a lesser video quality than what is prescribed, we recommend checking for possible congestion in your network, or that your bandwidth may not be sufficient. Removing some of your connected devices may help relieve some bandwidth space, and you may check if you still experience any drop with the video quality. Verifying congestion may require you to contact your Internet service provider to check your connection and upgrade it if needed.

However, don’t like the new Google Home format as much as the old Nest format. These cameras can’t be added to existing Nest app. You first have to migrate your account to Google Home.

Don’t waste your money

They do an average job in full sunlight but fail to pick up any activity at night. So if the theft is in the middle of the day maybe you are ok but otherwise you are wasting your money.

Generally, closer is better so your camera can capture more detail. Night Vision relies on infrared LEDs to light the subjects in view. If you’re interested in keeping track of things at night, we recommend placing your camera close to the area of interest.

Works Great

Clear picture streaming and the ability to talk to the other end is great and clear sounding.

Camera is garbage. Don’t waste your money

Camera stop working after two weeks. Went offline and doesn’t connect anymore even if I try a factory reset. Camera does have a small button to reset that’s needs to be reached with a paperclip and even this is not responding. I have 3 old nest cameo and work like a charm. This camera is pure garbage

Disappointing

The image quality isn't near as good as my cheap Chinese camera. I pay for the most expensive service for the cameras and it doesn't record most events. Overall there is a lot of room for improvement for these cameras.

Motion detection on Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired) will trigger the recording feature, and this can be affected by changes in the light level, and shadows moving across the frame like when a cloud moves in front of the sun. This also includes other movements within the camera's field of view like trees or bushes moving. If you're not getting any alerts or notifications, we recommend trying out the steps below:
1. Change or set up the Activity Zones on your camera. You can delete your existing Activity Zone and create a new one in any area within your camera's field of view. Just make sure that none of the zones you create overlap.
2. Change the angle of your camera and account for the lighting in the surrounding area.
3. Restart your Camera.

Poor User Interface and Connectivity Issues

We recommend checking your Wi-Fi network to see if your bandwidth is congested. This may happen if you have too many devices connected on the same bandwidth or if your network package is not enough to handle the data traffic on the network. Your camera may be out of range (if more than 25 feet from the router) and can become disconnected due to weak signal. If your camera is mounted too far from your Wi-Fi router, you may need to extend your Wi-Fi network’s range using an extender, boosters or additional Wi-Fi access points. Wireless interference can give you trouble connecting Nest products or other wireless devices. It can also cause slow network communications or intermittent disconnections. So your Nest products might continuously disconnect and reconnect, or they may be slow to respond to app control.
Here are some steps that may also help:
- Plug your Nest camera into a different power outlet to rule out power issues.
- Turn off other devices connected to your WiFi to see if this is about network traffic.
- You can also try restarting your router to reset your internet connection. You should also restart any Wi-Fi range extenders or repeaters that you have.

Good but does not work with the Nest App

However, I will not be purchasing anymore since the new cameras will not work on the Nest app. I have used Nest for years and prefer the Nest App over the Google Home app, the Nest app is superior in many ways.

Googles Big Mistake

You will have to migrate your nest app over to google home. Also you won’t be able to view the full days recording only clips of motion. Not sure why google is messing with the nest brand but they are going backwards instead of making improvements.

Not worth the upgrade, wish I could return

Owned for 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have an older Dropcam Pro that was starting to have issues connecting to Wi-Fi, so I bought this as a replacement for that. While the design of the camera is nice, the image quality is so so (no difference from my Dropcam Pro), and there are many downsides: -you have to use the Google home app, which is much more limited than the Nest App -unable to use my existing Nest Aware subscription with this camera. I have Nest Aware Gen 1 which records 24/7 and I only have one Nest cam at my house, and this can’t be transferred to the new camera.
