Overall, I would recommend that you consider almost any other competing product. Google has a well earned reputation for taking a successful product and ruining it. This is no exception. Video quality is dated, and there are plenty of technical issues to boot. These range from camera connectivity issues to videos not being accessible for a considerable period, if at all. Do yourself a favor and go with a competitor’s product.

Install never completed, service third party tech was to return with necessary equipment but neither his company or Bestbuy ever reached out. It’s a horrific nightmare to deal with the phone representatives ( had one successful & productive conversation out of more than a dozen) better use of my time to consider the service fee a loss & contract out myself if I consider time money

The Google Nest cam with Floodlight is a direct replacement for those old-style motion activated flood lights that a lot of us have on our homes these days. It uses the existing bracket that your previous floodlight used and just mounts on top of that. The wiring was simple enough, just three wires. Black, white, and a green ground. I went ahead and charged forward with the install and mounted the bracket and mounting plate, but I failed to install the ground wire first. Removing the plate from the bracket proved to be a tough challenge but I eventually got it separated and I wired it up correctly. The rest of the install went smoothly once I figured out that all the wires needed to be tucked inside the brackets for the floodlight to fit snugly onto its mount. I discovered that the app had some set-up instructions after you pair the camera with it so keep that in mind as well. Installation via the Google Home app was smooth as butter. There were no hiccups, and the process was very simple and straightforward. It’s nice to have one app that can control a variety of devices and I am thankful that these nest camera’s work with an app that I already have. The floodlights are very bright, and they can light up nearly my whole backyard, the output is a lot better than my previous floodlights provided. It took me a little while to figure out how to adjust the light brightness though, the google home app will create a separate device in the same area (backyard in my case) that just controls the light. I was in the camera settings trying to find out how to adjust the brightness since you can adjust the motion sensing, video quality, audio quality, etc there. The camera has built in smart recognition of people, animals, cars, and this is all done by the camera, so you don’t have to have a subscription to take advantage of that. The biggest drawback of this is you must pay a subscription fee if you want to have more than 3 hours of history to look at. This is probably the biggest issue that I have with this camera and why I can’t currently recommend it as a security device. If something happens in the middle of the night, you may not see what happened since that 3-hour limit could have already lapsed. In-order to take advantage of this being useful as a security device even when you are sleeping, you must pay at least $6 or $12 month for the Nest Aware Subscription. The subscriptions have many features, and they add 30 or 60 days of history to look back on. If you spring for the $12 a month plan, you can have 10 days of constant recording saved as well, if the camera has a constant power source. I admit that is the plan to get and it also lets you have an unlimited number of devices. The more cameras you add, the greater the value. Most of the camera brands out there give you a few days to a week of free storage. Video quality is not too bad for a 1080p camera; however, night vision seems to require the floodlights to make anything out. Audio quality is no good either. The two-way communication is hard to hear the other person and I have to raise my voice, while using the app so the person can hear me if there is any type of background noise. Over-all if you are looking for a good replacement for a tired old floodlight that has the added bonus of being able to record video, you might want to check this out, but at the price it is, you may want to look elsewhere especially if you factor in the subscription service. DO NOT BUY!!!..as with everyone else's complaints the camera does not preform basic function. Cannot get live video as it says "unavailable. The camera may be unreachable or saving battery." I am an electrician by trade so dont ask if its installed correctly. I have three other Nest cameras from before google bought them out, Nest IQ cameras and they all work perfectly (including the software). I have a nest video doorbell and that works perfectly. I have a google wifi mesh system. I have a mesh point less than 20 feet from the camera located 9 feet high on the same wall as the camera with only the garage door between the two. I have reset the camera, removed and reinstalled the camera on my phone, tested my mesh system, my wifi speed and everyother BS excuse they come up with...bottom line is the cameras and software suck. Nest was much better off before google took them over. Rant over

This is a huge disappointment. If you have any existing nest cameras don't buy this!!! You will have to use 2 apps, you can't view it on the browser, you can only use the google home app even tough it literally is called nest cam. don't even bother.

Installer caused problem with device which caused it to shut down. Set up an additional appointment with installer who was a no show. Who could be hsppy with that?
