It’s big. It’s ugly. And it doesn’t really make any sense. Here’s why: Googles Home app makes it not make any sense. For some reason, Google completely separates the light settings for this camera from the actual camera part of the app. There is no slider or toggle switch for the light once you are in the camera part of the app. If you want to change any light settings, it’s totally separate and built into an entirely different part of the app. This makes NO SENSE. And a perfect example of why the Google Home app ruins these cameras and the user experience. The camera itself is solidly built, heavy and feels like it’s a quality product. This camera is literally the same as the standalone cameras with a magnetic light base. With a premium cost. If you don’t really need a floodlight, save yourself the cost and get a stand-alone camera. If you absolutely need a light, look at the other, cheaper, third part options that work with the camera. Googles greed here is obscene.

The new Nest Cam is designed with a built-in rechargeable battery so that it's flexible to use with or without a wired power connection. It supports 2 major features that drive the size of the product: on-device computer vision with high performance and continuous video recording when plugged into power.

Your feedback helps us identify what areas we need to work on, and we’ll share this with the right team for future improvements. And if ever help is needed, we have services and assistance available for your support needs here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Easy to install, interface decent for a non professional NVR system but for some clients these are easier train, manage, setup and install. Decent options for alternate power, POE adapters and solar panels are available.

Gives good video and great surveillance for my backyard. Initially got it because my wife wanted cameras up. I wasn't really invested but it does give a good peace of mind. The app can be a little clunky but after getting used to it it's fairly easy to use. I've signed up for the $60 /year subscription so can't speak to how well the free service works.

This is a copy and paste from my review on the Nest Cam Battery since it all applies here as well. At least I was able to return this to BBY and plan to shift all of my Google hardware purchases to BBY as a result. I'll start this out by saying I am a huge user of Google hardware products. Many Pixel phones, earbuds, Google Wifi, 2 Nest thermostats and several Nest Cam IQs. Generally super happy. Then we get to the new Nest Cam with Floodlight. Was super excited for it since one of my Cam IQs died (and with warranty that's too short). Ordered direct from Google, huge mistake there and should have purchased from BBY. My biggest gripe is that one MUST use the Google Home app to setup and control the new battery cams. As many other users have complained about this issue, I can also attest that the Home app is a terrible, terrible experience. Gone are the days where clicking on the Nest app brings up the camera feeds right away. Now you need to click on the Home app, then click on the Camera button and hope the cameras "connect." Also, if my battery cam is not plugged in I understand that it's not powered all of the time to conserve battery but don't you think when I click into Cameras in the Home app that I want to see that live view as well? And then there's the online experience. Why remove the ability to view the footage on a PC????? I use that feature at least once a month and it's invaluable. Oh well, guess Google knows better..... And there's no time stamp within the Home app so god forbid I need to send footage to someone they'll just need to guess when the recording was from. And finally, it's 2021. Why can't we have a 2k or 4k camera? And why no option to mount and power this via AC plug into an outlet? BK P.S. for the Google person that reads this, I don't want your typical form response that you're always listening. I don't believe that so don't waste our time with a canned response. Just please get this feedback to the product team so they can understand what paying customers think of their product they released too early and without much though.

      Posted .

Hi bkinnk, thanks for being an advocate of Google Nest products. It's unfortunate to hear about your disappointment with Nest Cam with Floodlight, and we're sorry to hear that you already returned it.

We wanted to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, and Google Assistant. It offers you a lot more benefits since you have access to Google´s security features as well. If you´re willing to try, you may set up your other Nest cameras to the Google Home app. Here´s a guide that you can follow to set up your Nest cameras on the Google Home app: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532

The current line of Nest cameras have full HD resolution with HDR video quality that’s optimized for a clear view in bright sun or dark. Keep in mind that it also helps save battery power. We believe that video resolution is only one factor that impacts video quality, and it shouldn’t be the only deciding factor when choosing a camera.

And as you said, we'll definitely pass along the details of your feedback to our product team. If you will have a change of heart and reconsider using Nest Cam with Floodlight again, you can count on our support team for your support needs, if you can visit us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

I love my floodlight camera. It’s amazing. I connected it in my backyard and it works perfectly with the app. I set the light to come on as you work pass it and set it for a certain time. I have the service so I can view all events months after if I would like.

Camera is easy to set up as long as you have existing junction box. It is pretty sensitive. At night I regularly get vehicle notifications that end up being bugs. Although it is plastic it still feels solid and like it will last. I have other google home items and like the simplicity of a single app for them all.
