Google has a well earned reputation for taking a successful product and ruining it. This is no exception. Video quality is dated, and there are plenty of technical issues to boot. These range from camera connectivity issues to videos not being accessible for a considerable period, if at all. Do yourself a favor and go with a competitor’s product.

Not intuitive. Nest aware is not useful. Overall disappointed with quality. Miss my Amazon Ring.

Nest Cam with Floodlight is exclusive to the Google Home app, since we wanted to make the Google Home app as the one place where you can control all your favorite Nest devices and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. If you're having other Google Nest devices, like the Nest cameras, you may set them up with the Google Home app by referring to this help article: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532

Posted .Hello Nest user, we’re grateful for your feedback, and we hear your concern about the data usage of Nest Cam with floodlight.
When you pick video quality and bandwidth settings, you set the maximum video quality for your camera. Your camera will automatically adjust video resolution and compression according to how much bandwidth is available. You only use download bandwidth when you watch video in the app over Wi-Fi. This typically requires the same amount of bandwidth it takes to upload the video. Your camera also uses a small amount of bandwidth to download software updates and other information from the Nest service. If you need your camera to use less data over the course of a month, you can try some of the things below:
- Lower the video quality and bandwidth settings so that your camera won't use as much data to upload video to the cloud.
- Use Home & Away Routines (Home app) or Home/Away Assist (Nest app) to turn your camera on and off automatically. This is especially useful if your camera has 24/7 video history, so that it doesn't constantly upload video to the Nest service.
- Some camera and doorbell models can also use camera schedules to turn on and off automatically to help reduce the amount of data used. Please note that It's not recommended to stream camera video with a mobile hotspot.

Meanwhile, a range issue or wireless interference can affect the overall performance of your camera. Sometimes it may pass the connection test during setup, but will struggle to stay connected if it’s just a bit too far away. You may also check for objects such as mirrors and refrigerators between the camera and your router as these items could block the connection. |Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The Google Nest cam with Floodlight is a direct replacement for those old-style motion activated flood lights that a lot of us have on our homes these days. It uses the existing bracket that your previous floodlight used and just mounts on top of that. The wiring was simple enough, just three wires. Black, white, and a green ground. I went ahead and charged forward with the install and mounted the bracket and mounting plate, but I failed to install the ground wire first. Removing the plate from the bracket proved to be a tough challenge but I eventually got it separated and I wired it up correctly. The rest of the install went smoothly once I figured out that all the wires needed to be tucked inside the brackets for the floodlight to fit snugly onto its mount. I discovered that the app had some set-up instructions after you pair the camera with it so keep that in mind as well. Installation via the Google Home app was smooth as butter. There were no hiccups, and the process was very simple and straightforward. It’s nice to have one app that can control a variety of devices and I am thankful that these nest camera’s work with an app that I already have. The floodlights are very bright, and they can light up nearly my whole backyard, the output is a lot better than my previous floodlights provided. It took me a little while to figure out how to adjust the light brightness though, the google home app will create a separate device in the same area (backyard in my case) that just controls the light. I was in the camera settings trying to find out how to adjust the brightness since you can adjust the motion sensing, video quality, audio quality, etc there. The camera has built in smart recognition of people, animals, cars, and this is all done by the camera, so you don’t have to have a subscription to take advantage of that. The biggest drawback of this is you must pay a subscription fee if you want to have more than 3 hours of history to look at. This is probably the biggest issue that I have with this camera and why I can’t currently recommend it as a security device. If something happens in the middle of the night, you may not see what happened since that 3-hour limit could have already lapsed. In-order to take advantage of this being useful as a security device even when you are sleeping, you must pay at least $6 or $12 month for the Nest Aware Subscription. The subscriptions have many features, and they add 30 or 60 days of history to look back on. If you spring for the $12 a month plan, you can have 10 days of constant recording saved as well, if the camera has a constant power source. I admit that is the plan to get and it also lets you have an unlimited number of devices. The more cameras you add, the greater the value. Most of the camera brands out there give you a few days to a week of free storage. Video quality is not too bad for a 1080p camera; however, night vision seems to require the floodlights to make anything out. Audio quality is no good either. The two-way communication is hard to hear the other person and I have to raise my voice, while using the app so the person can hear me if there is any type of background noise. Over-all if you are looking for a good replacement for a tired old floodlight that has the added bonus of being able to record video, you might want to check this out, but at the price it is, you may want to look elsewhere especially if you factor in the subscription service. Pros: Bright lights Camera day time quality motion detection smart detections installation google home app Cons: subscription 3 hours of history free

There's no fee to stream full resolution live video and receive basic notifications, as long as your camera is connected to the internet. Unlike the previous versions of Nest cameras, all the new cameras come with free 3 hour event-based video history. However, you’ll need a Nest Aware subscription to record video and receive advanced notifications. With a Nest Aware subscription your video will be saved to the cloud and you’ll get extra features. Nest Aware is a paid subscription service you can use with your Nest products to help keep you informed about important events at your home. If you haven’t yet, we suggest checking the steps below that might improve the audio quality:
- Make sure your camera's microphone is on and audio settings are correct. Newer cameras and doorbells let you adjust the speaker volume.
- In the Home app, tap your doorbell or camera > Settings > Audio and use the slider to adjust the volume. You can also turn the microphone on or off, and switch audio recording.
- Check that your phone’s media playback volume is turned up.
- If you’re using a speaker or headphones with volume control, turn up the volume.
- If you’re listening with the app on a phone and your cellular connection is weak, try moving to an area with a better signal, or switch to Wi-Fi. If the Wi-Fi signal is also weak, go to an area where the signal is stronger.
