I think the gen 2 was just a money grab tbh to fund for the gen 3. I can honestly say this is the best one they've came out with.

There was no difference between the two. However the new does not hold a video long enough, it’s just a short clip.

Regarding the video clips, the length of your recordings may depend on your Google Home Premium subscription. While you don’t need the subscription to use the device, having it unlock additional features like event video history and intelligent alerts. Also, the night vision quality is terrible—it's far too dark.

Posted .Thanks for the feedback, Alex. We hear your concerns regarding the quality of the Night Vision on the Nest Doorbell (Wired, 3rd Gen). Here's a few troubleshooting tips to make sure everything is running smoothly:
1. Clean the lens with a soft cloth that’s made for cleaning optics. Dust, thumbprints and dirt can cause poor image quality.
2. Position your camera so that nearby surfaces or objects, such as walls, aren't visible. Use the wedge to angle the camera away from nearby objects.
3. Use the app to zoom and enhance, and crop out surfaces or objects that may cause glare.
4. If a bright white shape along the edge appears while everything else is too dark, a surface might be too close to your camera’s view. Angle your camera so the surface stays out of view.
