With 2 little kids, we used forget to turn the thermostat down at the right time. Programmable thermostats stick to a schedule and we had to "hold" the temperature when our schedule changes, and forget to change back. This thermostat learns our schedule . Also, the home/away mode detects our presence and adjusts the temperature settings to "ECO" mode, using less energy. These are small things, but add up to a lot of energy savings.

We liked it so much, we replaced all three of our thermostats!
