First off got this for a freaking steal 66 bucks with tax on clearance at home depot…NEW!….. definitely didnt want to pay full price and I definitely didnt wanna grab the 4th gen since reviews say its a step back and i was gonna go with the lower model but this was the one I really wanted …. 1. Install was easy, i have an older house built in the 50’s and was suprised this would work… just labeled the wires and relplace the old honeywell one that was here when we moved in….. 2. App setup was where things got wonky the device kept restarting itself while trying to connect to app but some how i got it on one of the restarts and it connected.. i love that i can control it in my google home app but requires nest app to set up and to get most out of controls… 3. The device itself it premium feeling and looking and has some weight to it and looks beautiful on my wall, I was originally gonna go with silver but glad i grabbed the last white one they had cause it just looks flawless…. 4. Software on the device itself is easy to use but how to click it took me a munite but that could be user error/air headedness lol……. Overall for the price i paid i love it cant wait till next summer to see if it actually helps me save money on the electric bill….. also the packaging was first class came with a neat little screwdriver and wall plate

Easy to install, great step by step directions and the app makes it so easy for the wiring. We decided against using the mounting plate in favor of installing directly on the wall which required a bit of hole filling and painting, but the extra time and effort was worth it because it looks sleek. Once it was up and running it was just a case of looking over the settings and customizing it for our heating and cooling requirements. It has been learning our preferences and really is great. I love that I can turn it on or off or change the temperature via voice, we have it linked to a Google Home, or through the app on my phone.

If you understand HVAC systems, buy it.

TLDR: If you know how low voltage systems work, buy it. If you are not comfortable with HVAC troubleshooting, this may not be for you. Yes this thermostat is great to use. However, the setup could be difficult for so many folks that don't have an understanding of low voltage systems, and even for some DIYers. I started using it with 2 wire oil fired boiler to know how many hours my boiler runs. It is perfect for that. I used it just as a 2-wire thermostat with Rh and W. I have an understanding of how things work and I easily set it up with no issues. However, just like any other 2-wire thermostat without battery, you need to keep boiler switch on in order to have power through it when using 2 wires only. Many reviewers don't know why their nest learning thermostat doesn't work and rate it low and it's sad to see that. Even HVAC techs visiting my house warn me to not use nest and I always show them how easy it runs. I recently switched to a gas 2-wire 24V system and installed another 24V transformer for Google doorbell and other LV systems for my house and now I run it with the boiler off in the summer. Why do I run it in summer? Because I have Google temperature sensors all over the house and it gives me relatively humidity reading near the thermostat and temps in the house so I can run window ACs where needed. When running on 2-wire system, it did hum, but barely audible beyond a feet. Installing 24V external transformer with C/Rc wire combination resolved that (see photo - please excuse wire colors). There aren't many videos on how to do that, but you can do it. No wonder HVAC techs don't recommend it because it is so versatile and easy to troubleshoot. Don't rely on Google support because they don't know anything. Trust someone with knowledge in low voltage systems and you will be fine. Other functions in the thermostat are cherry on top and I am waiting to use another one on a split system in future. I don't care about nest/home app being separate. Are there any competitive thermostats at lower price? May be. Cheaper ones may not have relative humidity and analytics. Honeywell is comparable, but it's just a rectangle and Google learning thermostat does look good on a wall with its round shape. The touch and ring are smooth as well.

When the Nest first hit the market I was put off by the price. I was also skeptical if another "internet sensation" would have any longevity. I didn't want to be on the bleeding edge only to be burned if/when the company faltered. But Nest has stood the test of time and remained. So when I had some RZ certs to use I combined that savings with the $100.00 rebate from ComEd to feel a lot better about the price. The Nest has shown to be easy to setup and operate. The instructions were clear, with additional information on their website that is very thorough. They also have installation videos for the more visual learners. They have a network of professional installers available if you really don't want to DIY. But for my situation, I found that the most difficult part of the installation was removing my old thermostat. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, everything is well labeled and the whole job took me about 30 minutes. It's very nice that Nest includes the additional mounting bracket for those rare installations that would require it. But even better was the trim plate since my old thermostat was a bigger, rectangular model that had been painted around. The trim plate covered it up and made it a professional looking job. While I like and appreciate the inclusion of the trim plate, I would like it more if there were other finish options available. But this is a very minor issue. It just plain looks good on the wall. I did have one momentary hiccup on the setup. On the first attempt it could not connect to my WIFI. I know the user/pass was corrected, it just took forever and then gave an error. I tried it a second time and it connected right away and has remained active for months. So if at first it doesn't connect, just wait a minute and try it again. I have the savings features enabled. So it's set to start cooling down about the time I leave work. But if I have to work late and it doesn't detect anyone home, it will stay in the upper setting until I arrive home. Better still, I can always launch the app on my phone and tell Nest to start the cooling before I leave work. I loved this feature so much about my car, now I have it IN MY HOME!!!

This is by far one of the best smart home product I've bought. It's easy to install, easy to use, and it looks great good on the wall. The best part of this equipment is the ease of use with the rotating bezel and how it remembers and adjust to your needs. Also, I like the fact that you can adjust the temperature through the app, if you're away, and through a smart speaker like Alexa or google nest. If you're looking in buying a smart thermostat, I beleieve this would be a good choice to buy since it does everything a regular thermostat does and plus more!

My upstairs and downstairs have different A/C units. The upstairs thermostat is in a loft. This means the temp near that thermostat is regulated by both the upstairs and downstairs units. If the downstairs is running it will cool the loft somewhat. The result is that the upstairs bedrooms can end up with temperatures vastly different than the loft especially if the doors are shut. This thermostat allowed the hook up of a wireless, battery powered temp sensor. This small puck can sit on a shelf in a bedroom and the thermostat can be configured to use it for temp sensing. No more freezing cold or blazing hot bedrooms!! This thing is easy to use, programmable, adjustable from your phone, will remind you to change your filters … on and on. It can be set to go into eco mode if you are away, it can learn your routines, it can help save you money, it looks pretty cool and nstall was a breeze. I have this and the Nest E and love them both. If you want to feel like you are in the future then check this thermostat out!

This is not the first Nest product I have had. The whole Eco system compliments and integrates with each other. Smoke/Carbon monoxide detectors work alongside the thermostat as well as the Nest Hello doorbell. They all have the most comprehensive and easy to follow installation instructions as well as simple Wi-Fi connectivity steps. The app let's you see and control everything from your phone. Besides all of that these are very modern looking and state of the art devices to save energy and protect your home. Very highly recommended!

Simple install and great functionality, especially with the Nest app. Looks so much cleaner than my old Honeywell thermostat. I have a heat only system with just a red and white wire, and I have have no issues with the thermostat operating without the c-wire. My heat has been on though the whole time since I purchased the thermostat. I may add a c-wire that can plug into an outlet when I turn the heat off in the Spring/Summer

Great thermostat. Looks awesome, very easy. Only gripe I have is I make the range and it constantly changes it. Its constantly thinking, perhaps too much. and you'd think it would learn that i keep putting it back. But i like the range and the eco is cool. Overall its awesome and easy to use with the app. Love that i can change the temp away from home.

After owning a nest in our previous home, we knew we would want one in our new house. The thermostat that our home came with was hot or cold and required a switch to be flipped for the desired function. This one does it all without needing to mess with it. On top of that convienience, it is great because it is connected to our home wifi and can be adjusted remotely as necessary. The Nest also has a few different smart features to save energy/money.

I picked up the Google Nest Learning Thermostat for a new home, switching from an Ecobee I used previously. The design is sleek and modern—it looks great on the wall and is very user-friendly at the device level. Setup was smooth, and the learning features worked well to adapt to our schedule over time. However, I’ve noticed some downsides recently. The Nest app has become noticeably slow—sometimes lagging or taking a while to load, which is frustrating when you just want to make a quick temperature change remotely. Even more concerning, I’ve seen a large spike in data usage coming from Google API services tied to the thermostat. It’s not something I expected from a smart thermostat and definitely raises some questions around efficiency and background activity. In terms of core functionality—controlling temperature, scheduling, energy-saving tips—it performs well. But the app experience and data consumption are things to watch, especially for those with limited bandwidth or who monitor home network usage closely. Overall, it’s still a solid smart thermostat with great design and automation features, but it could benefit from some software and backend optimizations.

Replaced 20-year old thermostat that was installed when house was built. Very easy self-installed. Neat, clean look on the wall. Functions as advertised and is nice to be able to adjust the temperature remote, when needed. We will be buying a second one to switch out our other thermostat.

I had been looking for a programmable thermostat for a while. Most of them have online compatibility checkers where you can plug in your current thermostat's wiring configuration and find out if it will work for you. We just bought this house this past summer and thought the thermostat was programmable, but upon closer inspection, it wasn't. It was just made to look fancier than it really was. So I took the cover off and checked out the wiring. Every place I went said it wasn't compatible with my system. On a whim, I chatted online with the Nest customer service. The rep was amazing. She had me take some photos of my wiring and of the furnace itself. We have a funky heat pump hybrid system that doesn't seem to be supported by most programmable thermostats. Bu she said I was indeed compatible and then emailed me my custom wiring diagram for the Nest thermostat. I went to my local Best Buy and picked it up. Then, using the recommended YouTube video, I installed the whole thing myself in about 30 minutes. It worked the first time without an issue. Now I'm not the world's best handyman so I know that if I can do it, just about anyone can do it. A couple of tips for when you start using the Nest thermostat: When you first get it running, adjust it a lot. It learns from you making adjustments. If you don't, it tries to save you as much money as it can but your house might be colder or hotter than you would like. Also, get familiar with the press and turn user interface. This took a little getting used to but once I figured it out, it was fine. I am already seeing reductions in energy usage. And it is rapidly learning our family schedule. Just an all around great device that does exactly what it promises.

If you in the market for a modern, well designed and easy to use thermostat, definitely give the nest a look. Easy to install and very easy program. The interface is sleek and easy to use. The ability to change your temperature through your phone using the app is great as well. It tracks your usage and shows the weather as well. All in all I recommend it if your looking for a new thermostat and have some coin to spend.

Did not want to be part of the nest band wagon but I have to say after installing 4 of them 2 in my house and 2 in my in-laws they are cool. They look good and are easy to use. I have old school two wire set up and it works off of just the wires. So I have WiFi control of them as well as able to monitor them when I am away. My in-laws have both a four an 7 wire set ups. So a little more work was involved. The 7 wire had to call nest to get help not as easy as you might think but they came thru and all works well. Lot of mone to turn heat up and down but they are cool

I've owned a Nest thermostat since the original one came out in what, 2013? 2014? This is probably my 7th Nest thermostat across 4 homes. I bought this in a rush because the battery in my previous one died. First, the good points. It looks good. It works well, when it works. It does what it says. But if you have a problem... Good luck. When Nest was Nest, their support was fantastic. Google's support is atrocious. My last Nest was a month out of warranty, and they would not honor a battery replacement when it spontaneously died - and in my opinion, 13 months is massively premature for an internal rechargeable battery to die. Also, figuring out that was the problem took a few hours in itself. The symptom was that WiFi would simply stop working. Even the Google support rep did not know that this was because the internal battery wasn't charging, and there was no notification that this was the issue on the device, strangely.. I have seen battery warnings before when our power went out, so sorta ridiculous that the firmware couldn't recognize the issue in this instance. Yes, there are battery replacement kits available, and yes, I should have perhaps looked into that - but this died during the first cold snap of the year, and I didn't have time for that. A thermostat isn't an optional "I have two weeks for Google to get their stuff together to get me a refurbished half-price replacement" thing. So I just went and bought a new one. Sigh. That being said, it looks good, I was already in the ecosystem so replacement and installation was a snap, and Google hasn't completely destroyed the experience using the Nest thermostat like it has other products it's acquired. Yet. However, this is the last Google product I will buy. The elimination of Nest accounts and the forced integration into Google Home was annoying enough, as Google Home is NOT ready for prime-time (and Google does not seem to care that people are paying to beta-test their software) and when this goes (and it will), I will take the time to convert away from Nest and Google. I may be forced earlier, the way Google axes product lines randomly and with regular frequency for no reason than their engineers were apparently bored with the project. Nest was good when it was Nest, from engineers coming out of Apple. Nest is not that good now that it's Google. I also say this as an unfortunate owner of Google Wi-Fi (10 pucks across 2 networks.. It sounded good in theory, never again), Android TV, Chromebooks, and Google Home. All of which have never failed to disappoint. Google - you do not understand how to build, sell, or service consumer products, and your constant no-notice discontinuation of products inspires zero confidence as a consumer. Your hands-off approach to service may be fine for a smart speaker, but not something as integral to home living as a thermostat. You need to get out of the smart home business. Maybe with any luck Google will sell off Nest again to someone who knows how to do products. Until then, I only stick with it because I've got so much invested in it.

I was tired of our old, round Honeywell thermostat. There would be times I would forget to turn it down when I left for work & the heat would be running all day. Not anymore. The Nest learned my schedule w/out having to be programmed & if I want to check the thermostat, I can do it from the app. My wife likes how it looks better than the old thermostat. I am completely satisfied.

I was originally going to go with the Ecobee. However, the one I got was defective and there were none left at Best Buy to get another one. So I needed a wifi thermostat so I got the nest. I love the design and it looks very nice. I had actually have it installed in a different area of my home due to the fact that it required 3 wires instead of the two my old one had and due to the age of the home and retaining walls we could not run a third wire. It went well for a few days and then I noticed it always offline via the app. I had stopped renting the modem from Comcast years ago and used my own in addition to wifi. I blamed the nest for never being connected as my other devices were always online. So I ended up just giving the Comcast box a try since I just upgraded. It had wifi in the modem. My nest has never been offline since. If you have connectivity issues check your wifi (clearly the newer systems are much better than the 8yr old one I was dealing with). Talk about simplicity! I turn my thermostat up on my drive home! It's much more efficient than the programming days. If I'm late, I'm not wasting energy. When I'm in bed upstairs, I turn it down before bed/when I wake up. It may sound lazy but you just have far more control. My plumber installed it when I converted to gas from oil. Very user friendly.

So far so good. I like how easy it is to use and install. Can control my temp on my phone even when I am not at home which is neat. It even learns my habits and takes care of the temp for me.
