Most users can install it themselves in under an hour, and the thermostat guides you through setup with step-by-step instructions on the display.Learning Capabilities: One of the standout features is its learning capability. The thermostat learns your schedule and preferences over time, automatically adjusting temperatures to save energy when you're away and to ensure comfort when you're home. This smart adaptation reduces the need for manual adjustments.Energy Savings: The Nest Learning Thermostat can significantly reduce your energy consumption. It provides detailed energy usage reports, allowing you to see where you can save more. The thermostat's display shows the current temperature, target temperature, and weather information. Adjusting settings and scheduling is simple, even for those who are not tech-savvy.Drawbacks: While the Nest Learning Thermostat is generally excellent, it does come with a higher price tag compared to traditional thermostats. Some users may find the initial cost to be a barrier. Additionally, while the learning feature is beneficial, it may take some time for the thermostat to fully adapt to your routine, requiring a bit of patience initially. Conclusion: The Google Nest Learning Thermostat is a top-tier smart thermostat that offers a perfect blend of style, functionality, and energy efficiency. Despite its higher upfront cost, the long-term savings and convenience it provides make it a worthwhile investment for any modern home.

If you understand HVAC systems, buy it.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TLDR: If you know how low voltage systems work, buy it. If you are not comfortable with HVAC troubleshooting, this may not be for you. Yes this thermostat is great to use. However, the setup could be difficult for so many folks that don't have an understanding of low voltage systems, and even for some DIYers. I started using it with 2 wire oil fired boiler to know how many hours my boiler runs. It is perfect for that. I used it just as a 2-wire thermostat with Rh and W. I have an understanding of how things work and I easily set it up with no issues. However, just like any other 2-wire thermostat without battery, you need to keep boiler switch on in order to have power through it when using 2 wires only. Many reviewers don't know why their nest learning thermostat doesn't work and rate it low and it's sad to see that. Even HVAC techs visiting my house warn me to not use nest and I always show them how easy it runs. I recently switched to a gas 2-wire 24V system and installed another 24V transformer for Google doorbell and other LV systems for my house and now I run it with the boiler off in the summer. Why do I run it in summer? Because I have Google temperature sensors all over the house and it gives me relatively humidity reading near the thermostat and temps in the house so I can run window ACs where needed. When running on 2-wire system, it did hum, but barely audible beyond a feet. Installing 24V external transformer with C/Rc wire combination resolved that (see photo - please excuse wire colors). There aren't many videos on how to do that, but you can do it. No wonder HVAC techs don't recommend it because it is so versatile and easy to troubleshoot. Don't rely on Google support because they don't know anything. Trust someone with knowledge in low voltage systems and you will be fine. Other functions in the thermostat are cherry on top and I am waiting to use another one on a split system in future. I don't care about nest/home app being separate. Are there any competitive thermostats at lower price? May be. Cheaper ones may not have relative humidity and analytics. Honeywell is comparable, but it's just a rectangle and Google learning thermostat does look good on a wall with its round shape. The touch and ring are smooth as well.

Smart and Stylish
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked up the Google Nest Learning Thermostat for a new home, switching from an Ecobee I used previously. The design is sleek and modern—it looks great on the wall and is very user-friendly at the device level. Setup was smooth, and the learning features worked well to adapt to our schedule over time. However, I’ve noticed some downsides recently. The Nest app has become noticeably slow—sometimes lagging or taking a while to load, which is frustrating when you just want to make a quick temperature change remotely. Even more concerning, I’ve seen a large spike in data usage coming from Google API services tied to the thermostat. It’s not something I expected from a smart thermostat and definitely raises some questions around efficiency and background activity. In terms of core functionality—controlling temperature, scheduling, energy-saving tips—it performs well. But the app experience and data consumption are things to watch, especially for those with limited bandwidth or who monitor home network usage closely. Overall, it’s still a solid smart thermostat with great design and automation features, but it could benefit from some software and backend optimizations.

Great so far
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Replaced a unit I had from Cox Home Life that malfunctioned. Wanted ability to control by an app. Easy to install and set up. Labeled wires and where to put them. Faceplate was nice addition because former was rectangular and this unit is round. I purchased a sensor for use in another room, living room, where there is a noticeably different temperature then where this unit is installed. In the app I can set it to go by the temperature where I put the sensor, and likewise would be able to do several rooms that way. The one thing in still trying to learn is the unit going in to Eco mode, why and possible settings to change the threshold as to when it goes to Eco mode. All said, seems pretty versatile. Anxious to refine my knowledge

Go get one!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This item was purchased with a $50 Black Friday discount, but the discounts from the power & gas company alone would be enough. Installation is simple, so is the setup. The app is something is love most of all. It knows when people in the household are home and adjust temperature automatically. Same when people leave. The amount of data available to you - and the fact that I can adjust the temperature while I'm 1/2 a country away is just awesome. I look forward to really saving money with it. Apparently there are multiple finishes available, but the stainless steel one fits well into my home

Awesome
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Simple to install and to use. You basically set it up and forget it. It truly does learn your patterns over time. Synced up perfectly with my mobile. It remembers to turn itself down when I leave for the day, and now knows when I get home, and thus has already recovered the house to a comfortable temp. I can also manually control when traveling. Nice to be able to turn up your thermostat when you land at the airport to have your home warm when you get home. If your thinking about getting this just do it you'll thank yourself later.

You can change your temp when your away from home. You get monthly power usage and other info. Three weeks and STILL learning?
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is simply the most beautiful thermostat you can buy. Oh, and it works too. I use mine in heat-cool mode which makes sense to me as there's two to three weeks during the year when I can have the heat on in the morning and the A/C turned on in the evening in my three-story townhome. Nest says that all the learning takes place inside the first week or two but it's been three weeks and mine is still learning. This could be my fault however as my schedule has been somewhat erratic. Last week we had the 4th of July holiday so I worked from home. Well, Nest knew I was home the whole time because it knew where my phone was but now, one week later, it is still saying I'm at home even more than two hours after I've left, just like it did on days one and two so maybe it's started reprogramming itself? I do wish it had real geofencing capabilities. People have written in reviews that it has but I have yet to see it. It knows when I leave and when I'm home by my phone's location but its fence, then, if it has one, is only limited by the bounds of my wi-fi signal's reach, not any real location per se. I'm confused by this as there's an "Early On" feature that's supposed to predict when you're coming home and turn on the HVAC if needed before you get home but maybe that only happens once Nest has set up a schedule for you. There's a third party app I may try which is supposed to operate with a real fence in this way as I'm not at all happy with this feature which doesn't seem to be working yet. I'm willing to give it more time though, until it's finished learning. I had Best Buy install this but it looked pretty simple. It comes with a faceplate which is good because what was beneath my old thermostat was a messy wall. It works with Google Assistant just fine performing all the commands you would like. Using heat-cool mode is tricky though because the target temperature you set will change your boundary temperatures at either end which may not be your objective. Oh, and speaking of the boundaries, here's typical behavior for my thermostat: It's set with a range of 72-76 degrees. You'd think this would keep the house at 74 degrees year round but it does not. When the temperature reaches a solid 77, the A/C will come on and cool the house to just under 76. It works similarly with the heat so the desired temperature of 74 degrees is never reached. I think it may operate differently in the heat only or cool only modes but to me, this is the best way to use a smart thermostat. It's a pricy unit, 'tis true. But I found it on sale on a competitive website and Best Buy matched it. Then I got $50 back from the state of Oregon for buying it plus I can save another $50 a year from the electric company by enrolling in the Nest Energy Rewards program. I haven't had a chance to use that yet - we haven't had a heat wave, and I may not like it but I'm willing to give it a try if I can save more $$$.

Expensive but worth it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One of my best investments, and I'm talking not about energy savings! I mean that it's easy to install and really great in use! It's quite expensive and I'm lucky that I need only one! The manufacturer dropped the price right after two weeks after my purchase, so I was disappointed a little... But it worth every penny! Great product with useful futures, such as remote control from your smartphone and motion detection. But my favorite fiture is the way it feels when you manualy adjust the temperature - it clicks like a premium safe:) Well build, feels very solid! I'm skeptical about energy savings, because I have free work schedule and someone from my family is always at home, so the AC is always on... Will check my energy bill at the end of this month.

Saved our family hundred already
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is actually the second Nest we've purchased. The first one was held captive at the house we sold and the owner wouldn't relinquish it back to it's rightful owners! We purchased the second nest after I got an electric bill for almost $300 for a 1400 sq ft house. Installed the next day and our bills have been no more than $150 a month for an outdated AC/HVAC system even in the height of summer. The Nest installed easily - my husband was able to do it with minimal electrical knowledge. It's amazing how it learns the patterns of the household. It's really neat that you can use the app to change the temperature from anywhere. If I know it's going to keep it warm during the day and it happens to be a super hot day, I'll turn the air down earlier than the programming to adjust for the extra time it will take so it's nice and cool when I get home. I have no complaints. This thing does the thinking for us. Also, if you are watching Netflix and are too lazy to get up and turn the heat on when it's cold, you can do it from your phone and keep being lazy. It's a win/win! Don't balk at the price, you'll get it once you've had it a couple months...

Not bad
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was originally going to go with the Ecobee. However, the one I got was defective and there were none left at Best Buy to get another one. So I needed a wifi thermostat so I got the nest. I love the design and it looks very nice. I had actually have it installed in a different area of my home due to the fact that it required 3 wires instead of the two my old one had and due to the age of the home and retaining walls we could not run a third wire. It went well for a few days and then I noticed it always offline via the app. I had stopped renting the modem from Comcast years ago and used my own in addition to wifi. I blamed the nest for never being connected as my other devices were always online. So I ended up just giving the Comcast box a try since I just upgraded. It had wifi in the modem. My nest has never been offline since. If you have connectivity issues check your wifi (clearly the newer systems are much better than the 8yr old one I was dealing with). Talk about simplicity! I turn my thermostat up on my drive home! It's much more efficient than the programming days. If I'm late, I'm not wasting energy. When I'm in bed upstairs, I turn it down before bed/when I wake up. It may sound lazy but you just have far more control. My plumber installed it when I converted to gas from oil. Very user friendly.

Great Product
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, the style beats the old round thermostats and the more recent square bricks mounted to the wall. Form and function are incorporated beautifully. Installation on my system was straightforward and simple. The only issue was the size of the wire labels. I had a hard time applying them snd getting them to stick. Photographing the wires with tags was a great help. Once the base was attached to the wall, the first step, and the wires were attached to the screw-free clips on the base, the main “dial” of the thermostat just snaps onto the base. Throwing the breaker back to the on position for the furnace powers up the unit on most systems. Then the setup program begins. Simple, straightforward and done in about 3 minutes. Connecting to the home network gives nearly immediate access to the wireless functions with Google Hone products and Alexa. You can speak to these products or use the apps. Easy as pie.

Absolute must have!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've wanted a Nest thermostat since they first came to market but always waited because I was in college and lived in an apartment. Silly me. I didn't realize I could've used it there as well. But now that I own my own home it's just a must have. Super easy install and easy way to check if your system is compatible before you buy it. And just works on its own. I travel a lot for work so it's nice to be able to turn the air back on before I get back to my place using the app. Not to mention, the design is beautiful. I'll definitely be buying another one when they come out with a model that's bigger or does something extra! Definitely recommend this!

Excellant Thermostat
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have 2 of the 3rd generation Nest thermostats which I purchased from Best Buy as I am Elite Plus member and Best Buy had a great $50 gift card rebate on each as well making the purchase a great deal. I was able to replace my upstairs and downstair thermostats in literally 5-10 minutes each, no need to call for technical support at any time. As for the product, it took about a week for each unit to "learn" our regular patterns and adjust to times we are not home and it has a sensor which detects motion to verify if we are at home. Additionally, it was very easy to connect to the internet, set-up, and set my schedules. Another great feature is the App on my Apple Smart phone, I can manually control the units from anywhere, anytime... As an example, we were away all day and I awoke the Nest thermostats from their away mode about 30 minutes before I arrived back home, our house was at a great temperature when we arrived without having to wait for it to warm up after we got back. Basically, it saves so much energy incorporating the Away feature it will pay for itself faster then I expected...

Great Google Smart thermostat
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We love this thermostat. It is easy to install and program. My house feels cooler with the AC on and it lights up when we walk past is to tell us the inside temperature of the house and what it is programmed to be. It will also troubleshoot to tell me what is wrong with it if it is not working. For example, when we first installed it, one of the wires was not “ seeded” properly and it told us which wire to fix. It looks great on the wall
