||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Do not try to install this yourself if you have an old home with a four wire furnace line because you can totally screw up your AC. I thought I had mine set corretly and it worked well for about three months when the lack of a common wire on my four wire furnace wiring suddenly caused the capacitor on my blower to fail, leading to a frozen AC and a lot of water in the basement. I am super lucky that caught it before more damage was done and that I have a friend who works in HVAC and could fix my AC and update my furnace wiring, on Memorial Day no less. In the end, it is an ok product but it is not as simple as it seems to install and you could end up seriously damaging some very expensive equipment, so I recommend getting it installed by a pro.

Make Sure You Have a Common Wire

However, make sure your system and thermostat connection point has and supports a common wire. Despite Google/Nest's insistence that you do not need one in my experience and in that of many others you really do. Without a common power your thermostat under heavy load will not pull enough power off your system. As a result it will possibly (likely) cause your HVAC system to short cycle. There are various remedies available to alleviate this issue, but for people who do not have a common wire and or have a system where heat and A/C are spliced together, this can be more trouble than its worth and or require an HVAC specialist to rewire your system.

Installation was simple and set-up was easy. If you need additional help with the setup, they have a few videos on youtube that can be useful. We love to be able to cool/heat the house when we are area within the nest app. Must have for a smart homes

I noticed (during the heat of the summer), that my house was consistently hotter and not cooling down from when the AC ran. It's valuable being able to control your thermostat from anywhere; would be nice if it worked better.

The smart side of remembering what you like does not work very well. I eventually had to go to the login page and just set a schedule. You can do this on the cheaper model.

You Feel as if You've Purchased New A/C!

I anticipate a significant savings on our power bill. I'll come back in 120 days and update. I believe this is a very smart purchase. Easy to install and it practically sets itself up.

It might be in my mind, but both my wife and I swear that after we installed this thermostat, our hose seemed more comfortable, with less drafts and too-hot/too-cold periods throughout the day.
