It disconnects from router and draining batteries, I have 940 MB internet from Spectrum and 30 devices connected and never dropped any signals on any devices with my ORBI MESH RBK852, but this product drops signals and showing battery low every three days, I would not recommend anyone.

did not heat after power outage

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I came home to find nest on, in heating mode, at 59 degrees when it is set to 63. I have no idea why, but apparently houses in my area had a very short power outage (less than 5 minutes). Maybe it is related, maybe it's not but this is not acceptable. I am looking for a replacement that can go to heating after a reset, if programmed so.

We're sorry to hear about these issues you've experienced after a recent power outage. The Nest should resume operation as soon as power is restored, so it's unexpected to hear that the Nest didn't activate the system once power was restored.

Feel free to reach out to us through one of our support channels, and we'll be happy to look into this further with you.

Cost me hundreds in HVAC repairs

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

After having the nest for a year, I started having significant problems with my AC/Heating unit. Multiple items on the unit were breaking, I wasn't able to switch between AC and heat as the weather shifted, etc. After over $500 in HVAC repairs/service calls, we finally found out that the issue was the Nest. Something went wrong with the thermostat, causing my unit to short out and the box to burn up. After replacing the nest, my unit has been fine. I've contacted google, and they won't do anything to replace it. While it is out of warranty (the warranty is two years, and I've had it two and a half, but the issues started after one year of ownership. It just took us a little bit to figure out it was the thermostat), I don't think a $250 thermostat should go bad after only two years.

    Nest Batteries do not last.

I purchased my nest at Best Buy about 5 years ago. 3 years ago the batteries in the nest stopped charging, Figuing it was a fluke, Google replaced the unit. Here I am 2 years later holding a dead nest. Out of warranty. Certainly not worth the price tag.

    Delayed start is big problem!!

I spent $250 on this piece of junk and end up wasting $7000. After I changed my old thermostat to the nest, I noticed the room never cooled to my set temperature. I thought my AC system was old and inadequate and replaced the whole system for $7k. The new AC still did not cool the room. Then I noticed the Nest kept going into delayed start, and would stop cooling after only a few minutes. Called customer service, their reps were clueless even though I had wait long time and spent couple hours with them. Apparently this is a problem affected incredible amount of customers. I googled and found many complaints on this. Tried many solutions offered online, and none worked. I had to switch back to old thermostat and now everything worked. If I can sue Nest to get my $7k back, I would. Really the worst purchase in my life. Be warned if you want to buy this piece of junk. If you donot believe me, google Nest delayed start. I would give it negative one star if the option exists.

    Big Change

While I used to be able to recommend this product to anyone as I have been a user since the first Gen Thermostat....I can no longer do so. Today 05/10/19 an article was posted about the Nest Thermostat becoming fully phased into Google. Nest had privacy settings, a smart hub that could control other smart devices, and a fantastic app....there all going away. But the most important item of all was the Firewall that Nest developers built into the system. That is also being erased. Google will now have access to you data in your home ranging from your location down to the IP address of your wifi Router. https://apple.news/AF9xQOBCfQ7Kw-mfdCqq-Jg this is the article detailing the "Death" of the Nest system. While I can say this is a sad day for me as I have become accustom to using this product it is not the end of the world. Considering I spend a significant amount of money at Best Buy I will try other smart Thermostats and give everyone updates that are needed.

Bought mine before Google bought them out; If I knew that was coming I would not have ever bought this as I do not like my information to be sold for a profit. The device works as expected BUT is not HomeKit compatible. I am going to sell mine to the highest bidder and buying a Honeywell Lyric. Lyric does everything Nest does bit at a much lower price and is HomeKit compatible.

    Buyer Beware

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This thermostat cost me more money than what its worth. Nest have techies developing it, and the techies don't have a clue what HVAC is or means. This thermostat is made to shut down the compressor with out your control, which means your house will get cold. It's made to save the inviorment, not keeping you warm. After all the money and time I lost from nest thermostat, I bought a ecobee, and it worked like a charm. I also threw away all my google assistant speakers, apps etc... and went to Alexa. I finally have my house warm without being dictated from a thermostat telling me me what Nest thinks It should be.

    Going in the trash

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We bought a house with this thermostat installed and thought it a nice bonus. That changed pretty quickly. We have pets and so want to maintain a constant temperature in the house. Nest makes this impossible. I have turned off home/away assist and schedule learning yet in the winter we will wake up in the middle of the night cold and have to go turn the thermostat back up. It does the opposite in the summer. It keeps turning the air colder than what we set it at. I will set it to cool to 75 and 3 hours later walk by and it has set itself to cool to 73. We have even password locked it to make sure no one is changing it or brushing against it in the hallway and causing it to change. The most basic thing a thermostat does is maintain a set temperature and this thing just cannot seem to do that. We will be tossing it and replacing it with a normal thermostat that actually works (hopefully).

We're sorry to hear about these issues you've experienced with your Nest Learning Thermostat. If you've disabled the Home/Away Assist feature and the learning schedule but you're still seeing unexpected changes, this could mean that there's still a schedule in place that was learned when the previous owners were in the home. You can also go into the energy history when viewing the Nest through the Nest app which can tell you exactly what caused the Nest to change temperatures. Details on how to view the energy history can be found here: https://nest.com/support/article/How-to-read-my-Energy-History-on-the-Nest-Learning-Thermostat Nest

    It Always Dies

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

It’s battery always runs out so it’s “offline”. Its schedule is difficult to set and it’s always adding heat times that I don’t want -and increase my bill. “Clunky” is an understatement when describing the on-unit interface. If you must do anything besides change the current temperature, using the app is a necessity which shouldn’t be an issue for a device that costs $300. Pretty round glass tho. (ecobee has a great touchscreen) It’s a stupid design to allow this thing to run without a C-Wire, it has a battery, but it frequently runs out, and it forces the furnace to run off-schedule to charge itself. The upstairs bedroom is usually at least 10° warmer than the ground level, where the nest is mounted. Additional room temperature sensors (like the ecobee), and running the fan more would be a benefit. Oh, and the ecobee works with Siri. Buy an ecobee.

We're sorry to hear about these issues you've experienced. There could be a few reasons why the Nest battery would drain without a common wire. If it drains to the point of the network disconnecting but the display doesn't fully die, this is an indication that the network connection may be causing the issue. You mention the furnace coming on on its own, this is a symptom of the system being sensitive to the way the Nest charges its internal battery off of the HVAC wires, and this is something our support staff can assist with. Feel free to reach out to our support staff and they'll be happy to get you taken care of so this issue is resolved. Additionally, we've recently released our Nest Temperature sensor which is currently on pre order. Nest.com/help Nest

I Regret Buying This Nest Thermostat

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I had two working thermostats in my home. I replaced them both because I wanted smart thermostats. One Nest works fine and the other has been a disaster. Sporadically it shows that my home is heating but no hot air is coming out. Google Nest support has been a disaster. After multiple phone calls and tests they have me perform to isolate the problem it is still not fixed. I've paid to have HVAC people come out and they say the problem is the thermostat. Google wants me to keep exerimenting to solve the problem - they won't send a new unit. I've wasted 10 hours of my dealing with their support and mulitple mornings without heat. I'd never recommend a Google Nest to anyone.

    Constant issues, no company support

I bought this thermostat precisely two years ago; I was never able to connect it to WiFi. About a week ago, the thermostat died completely - it will not charge while it is on the wall. I've been having to take it off the wall, charge it with a USB for 8 hours, then can return it to the wall. It is precisely 3 months out of warranty, and yet Google will do nothing. Not only did they make me go through a painful 2 hour troubleshooting session (despite doing most of the steps myself previously), they did not even offer a discount for a replacement. Unless you think this thermostat is worth $125/year, stay far away.

Hi caremedy, we hear you and thanks for letting us know that your Nest Learning Thermostat isn’t maintaining a charge while it’s on the wall. We’d like to help.

Nest thermostats power issues may occur when your system wires can't deliver enough power to keep the thermostats charged up. As a result, they start draining the batteries and disconnect from your Wi-Fi and sometimes. Poor Wi-Fi connectivity can also cause the battery to drain faster. Your Nest thermostat uses the voltage from your system’s wires to keep its internal battery charged. If the power to your system is switched off or there’s a blackout, the battery has enough capacity to keep working for a while but will eventually run out. Your thermostat will also turn off features like Wi-Fi to preserve battery life before it must turn off completely.

We understand it can sometimes be difficult to deal with this kind of issue. We’d like to have another opportunity and figure out a way that may help improve your experience if you can contact us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Worked great for 3 years and then the wifi module went out and it will no longer connect to the network. Contacted support after resetting and troubleshooting. Google will not stand by the product and only has a 2 year warranty. This is a known problem when searching the internet for solutions. Disappointing that after spending over $200 it breaks just out of the warranty period. Will not purchase a nest device again.

I followed all set up instructions including the compatibility instructions for it to cause my a/c not to work. I can not access the nest.com site for support due to it being down and that includes the app. I called and was on hold for 25 minutes for the guy to tell me their network issues would not be resolved for a couple of hours and to hang up mid way through the call. His first question was, “Did the a/c unit work prior to installing the thermostat?” Seriously? If my A/C didn’t work prior I would be spending money to fix that, not on this useless product. Now I’m back on hold hoping I don’t get hung up on again while my 3 kids, dog and cat live in a house that is 83 degrees and rising. Thank you Nest.

DO NOT BUY THESE. There's a defect and right after your 2 year warranty has expired, the unit will be unable to connect to your Wi-Fi. If you don't believe me, Google it. If this happens before your 2 year warranty has expired, it seems Google will work with you, but good luck in trying to find someone at Google.

I purchased the Nest Learning Thermostat from Best Buy and I paid upfront for the installation. 2 days later 2 installers come to my house to installed since I paid $99.00 for installation in addition of the $249.00 for the Nest. The technician ended up scratching wall plate with his screw driver and I did not get any heat for a few days. I did some researched and it seems that they wired incorrectly. I really regret it getting their installation. I called to complaint and they keep you on the phone for 1 hour transfering you from agent to agent. I am starting to hate this company....we had to sleep for a few days without heat.
