Some parts of the setup were a little confusing but ultimately I was able to do the installation without too much trouble. Aesthetics: the industrial design on the thermostat is lovely. I really like the way that it automatically lights up and shows the current temperature and setting when it detects motion. The scheduling UI is very intuitive. Nice to have apps on the iPhone and iPad. I’m ambivalent about the “learning” feature - do I want tight control over the temperature schedule vs. having the thermostat figure that out over time? Not sure yet. The big win here is being able to monitor and control temperature remotely & start heating up the house when on the way home, to have it at a comfortable temperature on arrival.

It claims to be smart and can adjust the temperature in the room, however, I always feel the temperature to be lower than I wanted, although I adjust manually every day, it still sets the temperature low.

We understand your concern about the lower temperature reading, and the first thing we recommend is to start by checking the location of the thermostat, as it may impact the accurate temperature reading. Here are a couple of troubleshooting steps to help isolate the issue further, as well as identifying that the thermostat is not impacted by external factors:
- Restart the thermostat by pressing the display until it shows a black screen and wait until it's back up and running. A restart should be sufficient to re-calibrate them and show an accurate value.
- Check if the Sunblock feature is on or off. Open Nest App > Select the thermostat > Tap Settings > Look for Nest Sense > Turn off/on Sunblock
- Nest Thermostats in the U.S. and Canada are typically installed on a wall. Check for proximity of the thermostat to: air vents / electrical outlets / appliances / plumbing (hot water pipes) / warm air in the wall behind the thermostat. This may also affect the reading for the temperature.
- Some wireless access points cause the Nest Learning Thermostat’s wifi chip to overheat, which affects the thermostat’s detected ambient temperature. We suggest disconnecting the network for 24 hours, and monitoring the temperature.
Different brands of thermostats and thermometers have different ways of measuring and reading the ambient temperature. Normally, a temperature difference of 1-2°F can be negligible, but if it is greater than that, and should the steps we highlighted not identify the issue, then we may need to have a look at what may be causing it and work on improving your experience. As soon as I moved into my new home, I knew I had to get them again. Loving the third generation. They work great. So easy to install. Usually takes longer to repair the wall from removing the prior thermostats.

I find it very easy and fun to use.

So 15 minutes before I come home I can change the thermostat to a higher temp so my house is nice and warm when I get home or turn the ac on cooler in the summer.

Allows easy access and control for my second home, which I cannot always be there. Easy display and lights up when you are nearby. Highly recommend and also be sure to get your local utility rebate!
