This will require for you to run an additional wire to power the unit. If you dont, the unit will not last the night on a full charge. Once it runs out to battery, the AC turns off and you will have to disconnect the unit and charge it using a USB. Hey Google.. simple fix... create an adapter to be placed between the thermostat and the base that will allow batteries to be installed, or update the unit so that batteries can be installed.

Nest thermostats get its power from your HVAC system’s wiring. There are cases where these wires can't deliver enough power to support the Nest thermostat's features, then they start draining the batteries and disconnect from your Wifi network. In such cases, installing a common(C) wire between your HVAC and Nest thermostats can resolve the battery drain problem. Contacting a Nest Pro technician to check your wiring and install a common (C) wire is recommended.

You do have to know which circuit breaker to turn off in your breaker box before installing the device, watching the installation videos is recommended
