Lined up the colors and that was it. Runs well, works great with my current home automation and plays perfectly with my Google Home.

Called nest customer service and they suggested to charge the unit with USB cable. It worked fine for few days and then battery charge issue cropped up again. Well I didn't want to charge the thermostat every time using USB cable. So decided to return it and got Ecobee4. Also I was not comfortable with fiddling the Nest dial to select an option. Not sure how someone in nest lab can come up with such idea to select a menu option. Also its not compatible with smartthings and you will have to do circus to get them talking with each other.

Love remote access

I have a lot of Nest products in my home (including the cameras) and have been very satisfied. The ability to remotely connect and monitor usage and change the temperature is great. The integrations with Google Home and IFTTT are icing on the cake. I give it 4 instead of 5 stars for two reasons: 1) The learning part of this "learning" thermostat is next to useless. Several of my friends also have this thermostat and everyone has complained about how poorly it learns schedules for your comfort. You'll need to go into the app and set your own temperature schedules. 2) The thermostat requires more power to run than some setups will provide -- even setups where the thermostat is otherwise perfectly functional. Some HVAC units only power while the unit is running, which means the Nest will first shut off WiFi and then eventually go to sleep. I understand the need for constant power, but my annoyance is that the solution is not found anywhere in the Nest support documentation. I ended up finding a thread on a 3rd-party site where someone explained connecting the Common wire to supply proper power. Why couldn't Nest explain that?

After about a year of use it started falling all over the place and disconnecting from the Wi-Fi and going blank screen. We'd notice that air would be off for hours and the notice that the nest was just black screen. Not good.

Posted .Hi Rvfarmstead, thanks for taking the time to share your experience with the Nest Learning Thermostat and it’s unfortunate to learn that it didn’t work for long. We understand how inconvenient it could have been for you when your system was off for few hours.
If your Nest thermostat isn't receiving enough power from your system wires and a common (C) wire is not connected to the thermostat, it will slowly start draining the battery which may result in an unexpected shutdown or disconnecting itself from your Wi-Fi network to preserve power. It may also be related to Wi-Fi connectivity issues where the battery drains due to the network usage of the device.
You may try to completely disconnect your Nest thermostat from the Wi-Fi network and try to use it manually for at least 24 hours. If the issue is resolved while it is disconnected, the battery drain could be caused by your Wi-Fi network. If the issue continues to occur, then the system wires are probably not delivering enough power, and your Nest Learning Thermostat may need a common (C) wire to get adequate power to stay charged up.

Called Best Buy- no help. Called Google- ran tests with them for over an hour. Finally agreed to replace the system. Also getting a W5 now error and won’t connect to internet. Trouble is- this is not a quick replacement. Snow storm coming this weekend and Google will not pay for expedited shipping. Looking at having to manually plug in Nest to USB cable to use thermostat every 4-5 hours. Low temps this weekend will be 6-8 degrees. Do not buy this product. Does not have a back up battery like most thermostats and Google won’t even pay for expedited shipping, knowing bitter temperatures are coming this weekend. Horrible company, horrible customer service. Will not be buying Google products ever again.
