I really like the voice announcements that tell the location of the detection...("basement", "Living Room", "Bedroom" etc.). I have found the setup to be less than simple with multiple failures despite being within inches of another device as instructed. one of my detectors failed after 2 years (1st generation). While at work, I got a notification of smoke in my living room. I drove home to find no smoke (and a terrified dog) with the alarm continuing to sound. It was a wired detector that continued to sound after unplugging, due to the batteries. My screwdriver was too big to remove the screws and with the alarm sounding, I could not wait until I found a screw driver to remove the batteries. The only way to silence the alarm was to smash it with a bat. (If I didn't my neighbors would have... 5 detectors were very loud). I can say that they are extremely durable devices. It took many hits to finally silence the device. I strongly recommend using the battery type units over the wired, as this will make removal of the batteries upon failure. I have since found that this can be due to dust build up even though I have always used light compressed air to gently blow the dust and clean as otherwise recommended. I would still purchase another and will soon to complete coverage in all bedrooms only because I already have several nest units. If I were to do it again I would consider a Ring compatible first alert and the Ring alarm system... the final cost would be much less.

Please note that we've next to eliminated the potential for false alarms with the 2nd generation Nest Protects.

I particularly love the fact that it tells you the alarm is going to go off before it does, so if it is because you are cooking, you have a chance to stop it! The one major drawback is that it does not support Apple HomeKit, so I had to buy a Starling Home Hub to use it. It appears to work flawlessly through the hub, though. Hopefully they will integrate matter support into it so that the extra purchase won't be necessary in the future.
