It's working well so far, easy to set up and get mounted. I wanted to get alerts if it goes off when I'm not home so I can respond. I also like how it shows you whats going on with it unlike normal smoke alarms that just scream at you for no reason whatsoever. I like how you can get the "heads up" alerts rather than it just going off if you're cooking, and if you test it, it gives a countdown so you can step away and not get blasted in the face. It's one of those appliances you hope you never have to use, but it is nice to know what's going on rather than just stare at a blinking hockey puck and guess what's happening. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 as the app isn't necessarily that informative, it's easier to just push the button and it'll tell you it's status.

2nd gen is much better than the 1st gen. Easy to setup and use the app.

Great smoke and carbon monoxide alarm. We replaced our old one that was not smart and the smart functionality makes the price well worth it. Great overall product!

I love the peace of mind the Nest protect gIves me when I'm away. It will alert my phone if there is a problem and being away from home with my pets in the house is exaxtly what I need to keep my mind at ease. Would recommend this to anyone!

I really liked the idea of this because we have the neSt camera and these two will work together. I also like the way the voice will give you a heads up before the alarm goes off.

Easy to install, looks good and very helpful with voice warnings. No more figuring out what that beeping sound is (battery bad or is the sensor clogged or there's smoke) or confusion on red vs blue vs orange vs green led lights. Nest device actually talks!! "There's smoke in Kitchen, load alarm will sound". And if it's safe, just click the app icon on phone to silent the alarm!!

Well, the smart of this thing is cute and all; app integration, a nightlight and audible notifications --great. But wait until you own it for a couple of years and the batteries start dying every month and Google is unresponsive to this known issue that hundreds of people are complaining about on their support page. And did you know there was an "expiration date" on this thing?At $120 a pop, 1-I can't afford to keep replacing this unit every few years, 2-can't keep buying batteries, or 3-continue to do business with a company who doesn't own their issues. I'm going to put my old units back up tonight.

This is my 3rd protect I've bought. I love the product. Knowing that your house is safe while you are not home is well worth the money

Very good when they work; if there are several they communicate and tell where the alarm is. Also if you have a Nest thermostat the alarm will turn off the hvac unit for safety. BUT - don’t expect prompt service when there is a problem. Google will do whatever they can to avoid replacing a defective detector. It might be better to have a conventional (and much less expensive) detector that is reliable instead of listening to false alarms and no help from Google Nest.

My purchase of the Nest - Protect 2nd Generation (Battery) Smart Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Alarm - White was a great buy.

I have had these for a few years now, but the “smart” features can’t be accessed, and support will not help. Basically I have a combo basic smoke detector with a fancy night light. Know that you will not have any Google/Nest support with this product since Google is in a partnership with ADT and they are focusing their efforts on ADT not Nest.

I use this in my upstairs home and it sends me monthly reviews, and when testing it works as it should.

My wife and I bought 6 Nest protects in November of 2020. Now, in October of 2024, we only have 4 working. One stopped connecting to our wifi, and the other died completely sometime in late spring or early summer of 2024. If it wasn't bad enough to have 1/3 of our order be defective (most smoke alarms last more than 10 years) when I called customer service, they said it's normal that some only last that long while others may last up to 7-8 years. I'm sorry, but $150 smoke alarms should last longer than 3-8 years. This was very disappointing, and I am now searching for Quality products for my house and will not be purchasing any more Google Home products again

This is a great product if it wouldn't be so expensive to feed it batteries. I really wanted to love the Nest smoke/CO detector as I always felt this was a great concept. I had plans for buying at least three of these to have an inconnected house as my house does not have wired smoke detectors. The first set of batteries failed within a week or so. Nest customer support was great and promptly sent me new batteries - this was November. Just 5 ½ months later the replacement lithium batteries are failing again, and the Nest detector is beeping consistenly until I replace the batteries. Nest recommends Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries, which run approximately $26 for the 6 the unit needs. At this rate, it's just not worth the convienience of this technology. I'm glad I didn't buy two more Nest detectors at $100 each, and $26 every five months for batteries. Too bad as I really was looking forward to other Nest products. I haven't read much about battery issues so this suprisies me.

This works great for detecting both smoke and carbon monoxide.
