The long battery life and overall performance are also appreciated, along with its connectivity to other Nest products and app integration. NEVER AGAIN
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow Seriously!!! I was excited to try this product out but within 6 months after installation this became my nightmare. This is a wired system however every 1-2 months the low battery beeping started on the unit. I watched a bunch of Youtube videos and did quite a bit of trouble shooting before contacting Nest for assistance (big mistake). After contacting Nest they told me the warranty had expired a few weeks before therefore they would not be able to help me. ARE YOU KIDDING! If this were a $10 smoke detector ok just chalk it up and get another one but these products are way to expensive to receive just a shrug of the shoulder response. If you are lucky enough to receive a product that is not a huge lemon good for you and hopefully you will be happy. However if you receive a product that has a problem / defective you will likely be out of luck and a lot of money!

Posted .Hi there, thanks for posting your feedback. We regret to hear that you’re having battery issues with Nest Protect, and that our support and that our support fell short in providing the help you needed. This is definitely not the kind of experience we want our customers to have.
Actual battery life will vary depending on a number of factors, including feature configuration, Pathlight usage, number of emergency and pre-alert events, etc. Make sure to use the correct battery which is the Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91).
If you are using the correct batteries, and the issue still persists, we’d like the opportunity to talk and take a closer look at your device so we can investigate what’s causing the issue. Also, your Nest Protect comes with a 1-year limited warranty. We suggest to reach out to our support team again using this link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

DOES NOT WORK WITH GOOGLE HOME!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After spending a bunch of time on a customer service chat, I finally figured out that Nest Protect doesn't work with Google Home. You have to use the Nest App (which isn't really Google but kind of is Google). Integration of Nest Protect into Google Home has promised for years, and it still doesn't work. I found this out the hard way after investing in a few Google Nest cameras and subscribing to Nest Aware. My intention was to set up an integrated smart home solution that all worked together. There are even independent articles that show up on the first page of a Google search that claim Nest Protect can be used through Google Home and even tell you a way to do it--that doesn't actually work. It's just not possible now, and there is no way to tell if it will every be possible. I'm really angry about the false promises made here.

Posted .Hi there, thanks for sharing your feedback with us, and we’re sorry to hear of your disappointment that it doesn’t integrate with the Google Home app. Having the Nest Protect integrated with your other smart devices in the Home app can be a great addition to its features and functionality. Meanwhile, with a Nest Aware subscription, your Google speaker or display (Google Home Mini, Google Nest Hub, etc.) can pick up the sound of any smoke or carbon monoxide alarm and send you an alert from the Home app. You need the Home app to turn on sound detection for your speaker or display and change settings.
Our team is continuously working on a more seamless solution. We appreciate your patience as we create a better experience. And if you have support concerns, just let us know here and we’d be happy to help: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

DO NOT BUY! FAILS AFTER WARRANTY!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked very well for just over two years. Then was woken up to the dreaded beeping every 90 seconds. Ended up having to pull the batteries out of the unit (even if the unit is wired) to stop the beeping. Absolutely no warning or communication in the Nest app. Turns out, the "sensors failed". This exact experience happened with both Protects I purchased and each just after the warranty expired. Contacting Nest support was very painful and their solution was to purchase another unit since it was out of warranty. The "only thing they could do" was provide a small discount on my purchase of a replacement. Such a scam!

BEWARE
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You have to throw this detector away after 5 years, its no longer any good as a carbon monoxide detector after 5 years. Another thing is that once nest brings out a new generation of smoke detector it no longer connects to your wifi. I have the first generation and it does not connect to wifi anymore only had it four years, contacted nest about it they said sorry but youll have to buy the new generation one. Too expensive to have to keep buying these things. Batteries go bad after 4 years and they cost 25.00 to replace. Not a good experience with this product.

Posted .Hello Ajkathy,
We appreciate your feedback. Like all electronic devices, smoke alarms wear out over time. Most smoke alarms have on average last five to seven years and must be replaced when they expire. Standards issued by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) require that all smoke alarms should be replaced at least every ten years.
2nd generation Nest Protects have to be replaced after 10 years, while 1st generation Nest Protects have to be replaced after 7 years.
Actual battery life varies depending on a number of factors, including feature configuration, Pathlight usage, number of emergency and pre-alert events, etc.
1st generation Nest Protect's Wi-Fi and other capabilities shouldn't be impacted by the release of 2nd generation Nest Protect. We're sorry that you experienced such an issue and we'd like to help resolve this. Please feel free to reach out to us here : https://support.google.com/googlenest/contactflow

Broke fast
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Man, you mean to tell me that you want $100 for a fire alarm that lasts two years? Customer service said that it might be dust. I mean, did Google not think to design for that? Dust? Like, that is something unexpected? And then the gaul to suggest I buy another, because it is my fault the dust got in there. Unbelievable, don't waste your money!!!

No protection when away from home
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought these wifi access smoke detectors for a seasonal home, only to find out a week later that they are “offline” despite the fact my cameras and thermostat both have been continuously on line. Obviously, not designed well and now I hear Google has decided not to stay in the home security business so neither this, or any other Google security issues, will ever get resolved.

Software is shockingly unstable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fit and finish of hardware is near Apple quality. Software is extremely unstable! Constantly dropping connection even with WIFI AP 10 feet away while a second equidistant Protect stays paired. Loss of network means it does perform its safety function of alerting in another room.

Posted .Hi there, thanks for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you’re having connectivity issues with your Nest Protect.
Connectivity issues for Nest Protect may be caused by several reasons such as Wi-Fi network congestion, distance of the device from the router, wireless interference with other Wi-Fi hotspots or devices nearby and other Wi-FI settings. If you have a dual band connection, Nest Protect is only compatible with 2.4Ghz.
Nest Protects connect wirelessly using a Nest-developed protocol called Weave that lets Nest Protects communicate with one another safely and securely without an active Wi-Fi connection. Protects can continue to talk to one another, and can let you know when smoke or carbon monoxide is detected in other parts of the home, even if your Wi-Fi network goes down
For further assistance, feel free to contact our support team. We’d be more than happy to help and improve your experience here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Posted .Hi angrybird,
Thanks for sharing your feedback on Nest Protect.
When the batteries are low, your Protect will persistently chirp to notify you that the batteries need to be replaced. We recommend using Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91) batteries only and avoid using any rechargeable or alkaline batteries. If you do, they will quickly drain and will need to be replaced soon after installing them.
We'll be happy to help you if you still have the same issue even after replacing the batteries. You can contact us at your convenience here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/contactflow
