Not only does it pick up several types of fires, as well as carbon monoxide, but it also does the best job at alerting you of the danger. And, it works with a wide range of smart-home products. So, for example, you can set your Philips Hue lights to turn on automatically when the Nest Protect goes off.

I particularly love the fact that it tells you the alarm is going to go off before it does, so if it is because you are cooking, you have a chance to stop it! The one major drawback is that it does not support Apple HomeKit, so I had to buy a Starling Home Hub to use it. It appears to work flawlessly through the hub, though. Hopefully they will integrate matter support into it so that the extra purchase won't be necessary in the future.
